I was going for a funny conversation piece with this one. If you are not familiar, that character is from a TV show called Bob's Burgers. It is supposed to look like she is going to clobber whoever is looking in the mirror. I did not use any stains, I cut the mirror to size in my shop. Here are some pics and the build album. http://imgur.com/a/aKuJ5xb11 points

My wife saw this in one of my pattern books and said she would love to have one. So you all know what that means. I know I bugged a few of you about helping me with patterns for this one and I thank you for all your help. Also to those who "schooled" me on wood types and so on. You folks here on SSV have been so kind and helpful. I'm so glad I found this site. Here are a couple of pics. One was taken without flash and the one that shows up more red was with flash. I like it the best but my wife says she likes the one that isn't so red. So, I guess I got lucky. By the way, she is going to put a glass votive candle cup in it with one of those flickering battery powered candles. It should look nice. I think anyway.6 points -

My first project for 2019 is a rather simple one. I am recovering from hip joint replacement surgery and, next week, I will "graduate" for my Physio Therapy sessions with Jane. I made her this plaque which I will present at the end of my last session: This was designed by Chachi and it is the second such plaque that I havemade. The foreground is 3mm thick cherry and the background is 7mm thick Jatoba.6 points -

I just finished these for a friend that is making a coffee table for his wife as a surprise. The “legs” will be wide boards on each end and he is going to frame these in with backboards. I had also made an OM symbol last week with African Paduck inlay and he wants that to inbed into the table top. The inlay came out pretty good, but finish sanding it was a messy job because the redness of the Paduck would bleed into the BB. Thank you Fish for the George Harrison pattern.5 points -

This has been our saddest Xmas ever,my granddaughter Faith was born on the 19th Dec but due to many complications the life support was turned off on boxing day & the poor little thing passed away next day. It has made me think of others who might not have enjoyed a perfect Xmas, I made this Plaque for her parents which I think says it all.Peter2 points -
Pet Leash Holder
amazingkevin and one other reacted to flarud for a topic
Made my daughter a pet leash holder for her dogs. I managed to grab a pic before the wife does the unthinkable to it and paints it! LOL The pegs may look big, that's because they are! Needed the next size smaller but Hobby Lobby was out. Dang blue tape pulled off the top layer of wood near the tail end. Paint will cover it up.2 points -

On craigs list if you set up an account, its free, you can enter an alert with key words, as soon as something posts with that word you get an email. I set one up for "scroll saw", got several emails, finally one was for an ex21, called immediately and it was mine.2 points

These are my first 2 cuts of 2019. Since we are in Florida, my wife needs a napkins holder with a Florida motif, so I found one from Sue Mey. The other is fromSteve Good, I guess he got tired of winter and decide to make a spring/summer pattern, easy to cut, now will decide what kind of colors to apply.2 points -
You did a good job! Why did you patch the "worm hole" in the wood? Worm holes add character....2 points

There are no words that can encompass such a loss, you have my most sincere condolences. Your piece must have a taken a while to dry as you cut it with tears falling, but it will forever be an incredible reminder of a beautiful babe, I'm sure it will be treasured always. Sleep well little Faith. xx2 points

compound cut pattern question
meflick and one other reacted to NC Scroller for a topic
Some time ago I made a kinda cheat sheet for common reductions and enlargements so I would have it when I needed it. Of course I can't seem to find it at the moment. Must be next to the spare set of keys I also can't presently find.2 points -
i think those Delta saws are probably a very nice saw.. and I have read reviews on them.. as i almost bought one as a back-up saw for my DeWalt then those Hawks popped up on CL and I went that route instead.. Biggest thing with them back at that time anyway was resale values wasn't very good if I wanted to sell.. I think Dewalts hold the best resale value of any saw high or low end.. You get a new Hawk and have a hard time getting half the money you pay even if it's only a month old..2 points

I made a lot of Christmas presents this year and thought I show a couple, and also one other project that I made this week. The first one is “The Pitch” from Scrollsaw Mag. The 2nd one is from Steve Good. They were for my grandsons. The 3rd one was for my policeman son in law. The 4th one is from a George Harrison album cover and the picture is 90 degrees off axis, but it is BB inlaid with Paduck. The last is a 2” Kokopelli figure and sun cut relief style out of one piece of BB, stained, then mounted to a 2nd piece.1 point

How would you start cutting this pattern
OCtoolguy reacted to scrollerpete for a topic
I would use at least 1/4” to 1/2” thick hard wood, like Cherry, oak, maple, walnut any type of hard wood with real high density fibre so they do not break easy. As far as blades FD or Pegas # 3 reverse so not much sanding on the back. I would start cutting the hollies first top and bottom and then the letters. If you have some problem staying on the lines, slow down the speed of the saw a little and most important DO NOT FORCE THE BLADE let it do the work. I hope this help and don’t be intimidated, you can always use part of the pattern on a piece of scrap wood. Go for it, you will have it mastered before long.1 point -

Cute and its not too late for snowmen as we are really just getting into Winter. I don't recall ever seeing that Steve Good pattern before, but every time I look back through his catalog I see plenty I don't remember. Don't know if that's because I am getting old, or because he has so many! Thanks for sharing.1 point -

Do anyone use an IPad to make patterns?
OCtoolguy reacted to don watson for a topic
Hi AkJim, When I bought my wife and iPad 2 years past I also loaded a copy of 'Procreate' on it. This is an app for creating art. I also bought the Procreate extra add on features, I can't remember how much they were. I also bought a book 'MAKE GREAT ART ON YOUR iPAD by Alison Jardine. I got this in our local bookstore (The Works, reduced from £14.99 to £5.00). Other apps for drawing/painting are :- ArtRage, ArtStudio and Tayasui Sketches Pro. I have not tried any of these last 3 apps as the 'Procreate' does what I want. Hope this helps. Don W1 point -

Oh Peter I am so very very sorry for you and your family, what a heart breaking time you have had. I am sure she is in a better place but its hard to feel that way just yet. I hope the healing will start soon. You have made a beautiful memorial for Faith, and even thought it was one of the hardest things to cut you did it from your heart, well done . Marg1 point

Good News Going to pick up my New saw today!!!Lowes contacted me told me it was in,I am going down there to pick it up this morning.I decided to go with a Delta.I did a lot of research ,there are more positive's than negative's about the saw.It is within my price range. It will be the deepest saw I have ever owned.I hope I don't have the same problems with the table our fellow Villager has.Looking forward to making some dust. It'd been awhile.1 point

Update on Pegas Blades
OCtoolguy reacted to scrollingforsanity for a topic
great, live and learn I guess. I have not heard back since I requested a refund on my priority shipping and I probably won't.. Going to try to send the bad blades back but am sure I will get no response. I did get my new Wen air filtration system up today. It is the smaller one. Does not seem to have as much volume as I expected but I guess time will tell. grizz1 point -
compound cut pattern question
barb.j.enders reacted to OCtoolguy for a topic
We have Google Home, and I love messing with "her". I ask questions that she can't answer like "how high is up"? She's still ruminating over that one. Fractions can be tricky especially as the distance between when we were taught and the present day gets farther and farther apart. As the saying goes "another day goes by that I didn't use algebra".1 point -

Some friends of ours (and a co-worker of mine) are buying their first house this year. So as a housewarming gift, I thought this would work. Ran it past my wife (she approved), did some fiddling in Inkscape, and started doing some cutting. Its not a difficult cut, lots of exterior to go around but nothing insanely challenging, other than the fact that I got a stye in my left eyelid a while back, and when cedar fever season hit early Dec, it started growing. Finally went to the doctor, and the stuff she gave me, after about four days, swelled up my eyelid so bad that to finish cutting today I had to close my left eye and was considering going inside and digging out a bandana to make a makeshift eyepatch. Inconveniently, I'm left-eye dominant. Closing that eye actually made it easier to see. So....time to call the Dr and find out is going on with my eye. ....I hate going to the doctor. Sorry, possibly too much info, but hey, Travis *did* ask for backstory! LOL Anyway, I finished up the piece today, just need to get it stained, backed, and framed. I'll post the pattern in the library if anyone's interested. Word of caution, there's several places where there's just one tiny bridge between sections, the whole thing is fairly...wobbly. So be careful when sanding.1 point -
