    Sasquatch!!!

My oldest daughter is a teacher and a Bigfoot fan. Since I'm on a coaster kick I thought I'd make this for her desk.

    Boy, was I lucky

I love Bernd's great aviation cuttings and he agreed to let me cut a couple of his also. He said to make it as large as my saw would permit but I wanted to try my usual 8 X 10 inch first. I choose to cut the Corsair F4U first because it looked to be the easies one. I feel honored that he allowed me to give this a try. I hope that I did not offend him with my efforts but as I continue to cut more of his work, I will start to understand better how I need to go about cutting it for best results. I really like airplanes, though I am not obsessed with them, and I am looking forward to cutting more to hand on my own wall to admire. Thank you so much for your generosity and I will post the others as I find the time to cut them. Dick heppnerguy

  3. Well I took a little break from the shop after the busy holidays... but got back at it last week making ornaments to restock some sold out ones.. Will be doing a mix of ornaments, clocks, and hopefully a few new designs over the next few months.. Also looking forward to doing a few portrait style cuttings.. Got a busy year ahead of me for sure with the plans I have, LOL Thanks for looking,

    An A. Fox cutting

With V-day on the horizon, I decided to try one of Alex Fox's patterns. I know from experience what looks good in a pic or video often looks different when I get done with it. 1/8" BB on the left is cut and stacked, on the right is some Sedona Red stain, and finished

    Too High

This silhouette reminded me of pushing my daughters in the swing. Both would ask me to push them "too high". I'm going to get one of them to burn "Too High" into it and hang it in my shop.

  6. Good Friend is retiring so I made a desk plaque and pen holder.. The wood is African Mahogany. That is not the same pen as I will give as the real pen is out to be engraved. Same kit and similar wood.

    Memorial Plaque

This is a Sue Mey pattern made with ash using a colored paper glued onto a piece of plywood. Karen was the high school secretary and played piano for the church. Odd thing I knowed her for 20 years but didn’t know our birthdays was one day apart (mine on 5/24/50 hers 5/25/50. Odder yet we both was born at the same hospital together. Was probably next to each other in the nursery. So you see why I had to make it! Giving it to her sister.

  11. Except for the light and takeoff, it looks just like my very first saw which was a Dremel. It uses adapters to use plain end blades and an allen Wrench to mount them. On average, it would take me two minutes to change from one hole to the next. The accessories on this saw are to make a crappy saw more attractive! Unless you have very small hands, you have to remove the dust port cover to access the bottom clamp. In order to mount a fresh blade, you have to remove both clamps and mount them in a recess in the top arm, then mount the blade to the clamps. Then you mount the clamps and blade into the saw. Very time consuming! Unless of course you use pin end blades.

    Yet another scroll saw

It amazes me that the starter saws come with a built in light, but pay more for a higher end saw, and no joy this one also has a take-off for the flex shaft from a dremel https://www.micromark.com/16-Inch-Scroll-Saw-with-Flexible-Shaft-Attachment 32 pounds, someone on here was looking for a light weight portable saw

  13. Last night I did a talk on enhancing your work with Flocking and Clay inlays at our club. I thought I would post the pictures on some of the works that I presented. It is hard to see the flocking but all the boxes flocked. I had a couple of turned items that were either flocked or had an inlay too. I think it was well received as there was lots of discussion on both topics.

  14. My wife is redecorating our spare bedroom and wanted these plaques for her wall. So I made her a couple. I cut them on 1/8 inch BB Ply and once again tried to make a couple of frames to put them in. I used a FD double tooth #5 blade to cut them. I did have the sense to double stack them so that helped both to cut them and to save me time. I have wanted to cut this pattern for about 3 or 4 year now so I am glad to finally get to them Dick heppnerguy

Ruffling feathers... that's what I always came here for... every now and then you gotta stir the pot otherwise all the good stuff sticks to the bottom I always liked to stir the pot because it would bring out a lot of good conversation.. and interesting content for the readers with their bucket of pop corn... This place has always been more entertaining than any movie or TV show I've ever seen.. and also meet a lot of new friends..

  17. My DeWalt came with it attached but as Dan said.. eventually it'll crack.. I used needle nose pliers to take the cracked one off then run a sink of HOT water and soaked it in there a while to heat it up.. once it was good and hot.. I added a couple drops of dish soap to the inside and on the metal part on the saw.. and while it can be a tricky struggle.. I've alwats been able to get them on this way.. Now that I have a heat gun... I might try that next time..

    Delta Scroll Saw owners

A heat gun or hairdryer will work. Just heat the end of the hose. Not too much! Then pop it on. Eventually the end segment will crack. Heat the second segment and remove the first, then remount as above.

  20. If it is like Loc-line, they have pliers, but to be honest they are very cheap,,,,, made wise, not to buy. I bought a pair for 3/4" hose because I knew I would be taking the hose on and off as I experimented with my dust collection. They work, they are some kind of plastic should cost about only $3 in my opinion. https://www.loc-line.com/products/14-loc-line-system/14-accessoriestools/ heat works well, just do not over heat or it will ruin the joint. I use a heat gun like Jim.

  21. if you are talking about the segmented tube that blows the saw dust, it pops on but you do need either a special pair of pliers, or heat it up, push it on. I used a heat gun but some say boiling water

  37. Hello rdatelle Your patterns do not give me rest)) Today at work I planted a dummy in front of a computer. So that the surveillance cameras would think that I was working, and I myself hid in the closet and made your air plant holders. Of course this is a joke. )) But in every joke there is some truth.

  42. I did it like this also because with the new Pegasus bottom blade holder I’m now able to use the bottom reverse teeth on all my blades. Any added thickness to the existing table would make it so I would loose that ability

  43. I use refrigerator calendar magnets for zero clearance. Easy to remove and install. Just put them on the side so when needed they are not far away.
    1 point
  44. Well you could do it easily but there is a slight giveaway. On my saws I have made 1/8" thick auxiliary table top and my inserts are the same thickness. I did this so I could have the inserts and in addition it gives me a larger table top for my Hegner. The giveaway is you give up 1/8" of thickness you can cut. So far I have not missed the 1/8" but I may, since I have started playing with compound cutting. But my table tops are easy to remove so if I need that 1/8" I will just remove the aux table top.

    Buying a new saw

I talked with Steven yesterday at Bear Woods. He said the new Pegas is due to be here in late February so I went ahead and reserved one. If it is here in February, then I will be a happy camper. If not, then my trusty Hawk will carry me through. BTW, I may have a trusty 20" Hawk for sale in late February if anyone is interested.

  46. In that case where you have a insert that is removable I understand.. but what the original poster here did was fill a hole with JB weld.. so he's not taking it out for the blade changes.. I've made inserts in the past for my old Delta and Dremel saws that required a insert and did as you do for blade changes.. BTW, anything more than two saws is a waste anyway as you only have two hands.. Now.. If I could line them all up and somehow attach something to each of my projects so i cut on one saw and the others follow along with my one cutting... now that would be some production cutting right there..

    Buying a new saw

Scott, I'm glad you are taking a deep breathe. My heart sunk a bit when I saw that you had ordered an EX. As curious as I am to see if General can finally ship a saw from the new Chinese factory that actually functions properly, I was very very very scared for you. The EX right now is very risky, and I've only heard horror stories on the Chinese produced models. General started shipping saws before they got the serious problems worked out on with their production, and burned some resellers. You would be safer buying any of the other EX styled brands as they are all made in the proven factory that once sold solid Excalibur's. Please count your lucky stars, and go with a Tawain made model.

  49. When I saw this pattern posted this week on Steve Good's sight, I showed it to my wife who immediately fell in love with it. So today I cut and finished it. It is not a very useful basket as it is quite small, but it is quite decorative and pleasing to the eye. I am considering cutting one more of them but instead of using 1/4 inch BB Ply I was thinking of using a thicker and darker wood to see how that comes out. I have to say that is took me longer to cut it then I thought it would but I am pleased with the outcome. Dick heppnerguy
