A project for myself. Will go over my front door.

Well I decided to give Steve Goods circus pattern a try. All made out of 1/8 B/B ply. 90 % of this was made from scrap ply that I had left over from a lot of my portraits and other stuff. I did add a couple more horses to kinda of balance it out. It is pretty long, maybe almost 4 feet. Not sure where I will put it. Already have a few offers for it but I have no idea what I would have to charge and I'm not sure if I want to make another one. Took about four days on and off. The glue and activator he recommended really helped with this project.

New to scroll sawing so I took a shot at a Steve Good pattern

When I joined in August last year, about 5 months ago, I'd bought a little pin-end saw from Aldi a couple of weeks before. I was so happy with my new hobby that my other half gave me a 4ft x 3ft corner of his 'man cave'. But having joined this group and seen what could be done with a 'different' saw, I bought one of those too. Well I kind of 'outgrew' my 4'x3' space but didn't like to ask for more as 'sharing' his man cave was something totally new to Tony. However, it's not gone unnoticed that I'm quite 'smitten' with this 'scrolling lark' so he let me expand and has even put cupboards on the wall for me to keep my stuff in. I love him lots

Technically, these are "bandsaw boxes" BUT the handles were cut on my scroll saw. While we already had an 18" floor model bandsaw (well hubby did) in the shop, he got me a smaller 10" tabletop Rikon bandsaw for Christmas. I like it for most of my needs and it is easy enough for me to change out the blades on it as needed. He also built me a stand to put it on. (Yes, he's a keeper. ) I had been wanting to try to make some bandsaw boxes for quite a while (probably after several were shared here in the Village no doubt.) This gave me the perfect opportunity to try some. The patterns are from a book I purchased, "The New Bandsaw Box Book - Techniques and Patterns for the Modern Woodworker" by David Picciuto. I have made the first two boxes from the book. The first one is aptly called the "Tennessee" box, the state in which I live. I would say that the design - very roughly sort of looks like the outline of the state (but not really. ) The second one is the "St Louis" Box inspired by the "gateway arches." I used scraps we had in the shop since these were my first attempts. Thus the "walnut" in the middle of the St Louis Box does not match up as he has in the book. I had two scraps of walnut, one was dark and one was not. I did flock the inside of each piece and the inside of the drawer with a navy blue flock. I enjoyed making these and plan to try some more. I posted this on another site, thought all would like to know that there are business people out ready to serve us. I just wanted everyone to know about my recent purchase from QTE North America. I ordered the new Pagas Head Clamp Set for my ailing EX-21 on 1/19 and was excited to receive them in about a week. When I opened the box, my excitement waned because I noticed that I was sent the wrong set of clamps and my saw is pretty much out of service. I called QTE this morning (FRI.), and received the best customer service I have ever experienced. I spoke with Richard Boehl and he immediately knew what my problem was and couldn't apologize enough. Just finished this one. I cut it out of Purple Heart. I think it turned out good considering it was the first time I used this wood. One think I learned, it seemed to be really hard on blades. Used more blades than I usually do on a project this size. I wish I would have kept track, I am curious just how many I used.

One more layered project - hummingbird only 3 layers, but it has nice 3d effect

Now it is time to get back to real work but, I had so much fun building the first nutcracker, I had to do another. This one is 25% larger, so it is big brother meets little brother. I was kind of proud of the paint job on this one. I added more to it because he is older big brother, he has more glitz. I figured out how to do the round eyes. Take a small pencil eraser and dab it in paint than on the face. Same with the button, sand down a pencil eraser and dab. So the fun is over. Got to do some more serious projects.

We built a laundry room off the kitchen so my wife didn't need to go up and down stairs. Now I have the whole basement for my shop. I'm so good to my wife.

My wife and I share space for our hobbies. I get one room in the house for my woodworking she gets the rest of the HOUSE for her quilting!!

talked to Ray at Seyco as someone had suggested. Thank you for that advice. New clamps are coming at his suggestion.

I also just had a great customer service with them and it was Richard that helped me. I purchased my Pegas chuck heads from them also and had the thumb screw ends and set screw ends wear out very quickly. I emailed them on Saturday when they were closed and had a return email at eight am Monday morning. Richard rushed out two new sets of swivels and set screws at no charge. They also sell Pegas blades at a very good price I thought. I am going to try them next time I need blades. I have received several emails from Richard on tips for sanding down my thumb screw tips and cleaning blades. I already knew all the things he told me but it was still nice that he cared enough to email back. grizz

I redid the wolf and eagle in oak to match the Indian. Before they were poplar and I didn’t like the way it took the danish oil. Now they match and I’m much happier with the results.

@kmmcrafts Hi Kevin. I’m not sure about the tax laws in USA but maybe you could rent a shop to your business?

I learned how to make these wood hinges on You Tube. I designed these boxes. They are made of maple and walnut. Not as good of a job on the star inlay as I would have liked.

That’s where I bought my Pegas upgrade chucks for my Excalibur.I had never heard of them until searching for the best deal on the Pegas. Had a great experience with my purchase from them.

Same thing with my dust collection setup. The suction noise is annoying. I am wondering if a larger opening at the end that sucks the dust would help. Problem is I don't want to quit working projects long enough to play with it to find out!

I bought the pattern yesterday and had a go at it. Don't look too closely, it's not perfect but it was fun to do and as Alex says, the assembly is not hard if you follow the pattern. Rob

I was honored to have a friend purchase for me, some of Alex Fox's baskets. I have made one of Fox's basket that I purchased from his wed sight and posted it here about a couple of months ago and my good friend saw that I liked to make them for my wife, who by the way really loves them, so he bought several basket patterns for me to enjoy making. Here is the first of the them but with a little twist. I asked my wife if she would enjoy is with the top two layers left as one or by following the pattern all the way. She told me she would like to see it with the altered way first. So here is her request. When I complete the next one in it's original format, it will be like a new basket all together. I enjoy cutting and putting these together because they are quick and easy to cut but more because my wife likes them so well. Dick heppnerguy

To update on this little project, I've now attached a cheap Loc Line rip-off with a speaker magnet to the arm to direct the airflow. I can also swivel it out of the way, so I'm more than happy with it as it stands.

I have the same problem with my computer. It tells me what to do. LOL grizz

Finished the Alex Fox pattern of Barn and Pickup for my B-I-L. He should get it in a few days. The pickup and Barn cutting was not too bad but the blade pulls for the bushes and the meandering lines for the pine trees got to be a little tedious. Lots of traveling with the blade(s). I used a 2.0 puzzle blade and went through 8 to finish. They are very fine and wear out pretty fast but I can make some sharp turns. 10.5 x 14 1/8" BBPW on 1/4" backer. Shellac/Lacquer finish.

I've thought about drilling a larger hole near the intake to see if that would relieve some pressure and noise Kind of worried it might make it worse though..

A lot of saws come with a dust port.. My old Dremel did.. My excalibur does.. I think Hegner too? I do think that a onboard system probably is asking too much BUT.. the dust port these saws have are either an annoyance or work marginal at best... They could design something better.. they know the port they put on them is more for a attractive selling feature instead of a good functional piece.. I do think they could offer upgrades to an onboard vac system if they'd take the time to design something that would work.. Seyco does offer this vac system...and I've heard it works quite well.. quiet too.. Alex, that is so amazing. I think I would have trouble putting the pieces together. You make it look so easy.

Believe it or not, l love my DeWALT DW788. The only changes I would make is better quality bearings and a sealed on and off switch. As a top feeder, I love that the top arm swings up and comes down by itself. I love the large cast iron table and the upfront control. The blade clamps are great with a little routine maintenance. The only design change I would make is a larger capacity swing, maybe 24”-26”.

My BM - 26 is set up about as well as a saw could be, I reckon. I spend most all my time talkin' to it, unless I get a project I don't want to run over the deck of the Hawk, then I visit with my CW - 40. I don't have any experience with them other breeds. I'd like to see the CW - 40 brought back to life. That was a great saw! The saw deck could stand to be enlarged some. Mine is still in service. Parts availability seems to be alright. I have had to change out the bellows, power switch, VS switch, and the flexi - loc air line on mine, and I ain't able to tell ya how many hundreds of hours I've put on that ol' gal. Sawdust703(brad)
