    Love Music!

I am busy getting ready for the Denton County Art and Jazz Festival at the end of April. It's a three day show and the biggest I have done so far. It's hard to know what to expect. This is a new project that I just completed that I thought might be fitting.

  2. At the club this week I was asked if I could design a pattern that had LOVE on 2 sides that he incorporate into holder for a tea light. (He knew that 2 side would be weird). I took Steve Goods pattern that said "LOVE/WOOD". Copied the love to the wood side and put on a pattern from Steve for tea light holder. I was not sure what it would look like so a cut a demo and it turned out not too bad so I finished. 6 1/2 tall from some scrap pine 1 3/4 x 1 3/4

  3. My neighbor got herself a new dog, so after she told me the breed, I went to Iggy’s web site and of course he had the pattern. I found out that this breed is the national dog of Cuba, the breed is Havanese. Lot’s of fun to cut.

    Clock Size Opinion?

I'm late i see. But thought i would throw my two cents in. This is the way i would save the ones you cut until you could get a pattern sized correctly. Was thinking something like this. Russell

  10. I just cut this one out a few minutes ago. The customer wants to paint it the school colors of his boy, who is represented on this jersey. So I have it ready for him to paint and then I will glue it together. I actually liked the pattern more than I thought I would. It is rather cute and should make the receiver feel the pride his dad has in his efforts on the basketball court, when he sees this and hangs it on his wall NOT GOING TO GET A CHANCE TO SEE THE FINISHED PRODUCT, THE CUSTOMER JUST CAME BY AND PICKED IT UP. HE IS TAKING IT HOME AND WILL PAINT IT HIMSELF AND GLUE IT. SO I WILL NOT SEE THE FINISHED ITEM EITHER. Dick heppnerguy

  11. This company deserves a pat on the back from me. Last week I ordered some clocks from them. I received them in two or three days. Two of the clocks had gold bezels and I wanted black. I took a picture of the order and sent them an email and explained to them that I really wanted the black bezel clocks. I also told them that I forgot to order a few things and that I would keep and pay for the ones they sent, order what I forgot and order two more clocks with black bezels if they would pay for the shipping. I got an email next morning stating apologizing and stated that two black bezel clocks were in the mail. I received them in two days. They sure won my business.

    New Type Of Project

That would be me also!. I just signed up for a TIG welding class. I want to pull the motor from my TVR and have it tweaked a bit, and dynoed to squeeze a few more horses out of it. I also need to start an upstairs bath remodel. Plus all of the scrolling projects. I want to make. I also have some new embroidery software arriving today. Yes I have a Digital embroidery machine (inherited from my Mom).

    Wood

There is no easy answer for that question. From what I have found, the best way to "save" money, Ha!, is to try to order as much wood at a time as you can. That brings the shipping down a bunch. I have been putting my projects together and ordering wood to do them all, at the same time. Buy the wood that is. I've got enough wood stocked up now for a lot of projects and my shipping costs were much more in line with the cost of the wood. Luckily, I've got a pretty good source about a hour from me and they work with me on shipping because of that. If I really need something quick, I can drive up to them but with the traffic and cost of gas, I don't do that often. The name of their company is: Cherokee Wood Products in Upland Ca. They have a website at: CherokeeWood.com. I have also ordered from Ocooch and they are excellent and fast. Very good to work with either of these companies.

That looks like a machinist's scribe and General Hardware sells them. I've got a passel of them. A wonderful tool for so many things. I've even used it to scribe a line. LOL.

  20. I spent my entire life in the garage, braving all the Nebraska elements. Then 2 years ago we downsized and bought a patio townhouse. Downstairs I have a room with a concrete floor and a door. I have taken up the art of dust collection since, but it sure is nice to have it the same temperature year round. Not to mention not having to roll everything back to the edges to get cars in the garage. Plus I think it is really nice to be able to walk away from something and come back later, knowing that nothing changed in my absence.

  23. This is an AlexFoxUa pattern from Etsy. My first paid pattern. Really enjoyed the quality of the pattern. Congrats Alex on your mention and pic in the spring edition of Scroll saw magazine. You deserve it. I enjoy the realistic patterns you offer everyone. The frame on mine is Mahogany. Finished with 1 coat of tung oil and 3 coats of deft rattle can lacquer. Splines were 1/4" scrap of Baltic birch. The cut was 1/4" Baltic Birch finished with 2 coats of clear shellac/denatured alcohol mix then 2 coats of deft rattle can lacquer. Backer board was 1/4" Baltic Birch. Started out flat....didn't like it then went satin black. Blades used were Flying Dutchman 2/0 Spiral 35 TPI for around the mouth and the rest was Olsen Skip Tooth 2/0 28 tooth per inch. This is a gift for my sister who rescues and preps cats for adoption.

    Feeling Crabby!

Being a native Marylander I had to make this when I saw it in the Fall 2018 SSW&C Magazine. I tortured myself by using a piece of true 3/4” Purple Heart that I had around. That is not the easiest wood to scroll, especially when it’s that thick.Hard on blades! I just finished cutting it, now comes more “fun” with a lot of hand sanding. Got Old Bay?

    Martian Commander

From Mars Attacks. 1/8" bb 8x10. 107 holes. I haven't framed it yet. I am in the process of making a table saw miter sled. I decided no more frames until I make things easier on myself.

    Custom Harley

Made this one for my good customer who said he would take all I could make for him. I used 4 mm Marine Ply for this one & I mainly used No 1 silver reverse blade but I did use a 3/0 new spiral for parts of the front wheel & the spring at the top of the folks. Cheers Peter

  30. How do you know a company does not make a mistake?? They may have never made a mistake on your order but others they may have. The size of a company plays a roll too. When handling more orders than the next guy can produce more mistakes. What impress me is not the lack of mistakes but how they are handled if it does happen and the speed of which it was handled. That is what a stand-up company is all about.

  34. That basically was my idea but thought instead of cutting dashes to use the colored wood he is using on the base and thin to a veneer and use as a skirt. I have done that many times to accent the clock and tie it into the base.

  35. Excuse me.....but I never said anything like this..please do not make assumptions about what you think I am saying. What I said is that I am more impressed with a company that does not make a mistake. If I order something and a mistake is made, I give them a chance to make it right. If they do, I may order from them again depending on how they respond to the problem. If they do it again, I am buying from someone else.

    Writing on wood

Use to be a seller on Etsy that never cut those fine lines like that.. they always cut the main stuff and then wood burn (Pyrography) the details into the rest of it.. Always looked nice.. and is an idea for some things I suppose.. but me and wood burning.. event though i have a nice burner outfit.. looks like I hit it with a torch instead LOL

Yeah, those fine lines can really bring out the character in a piece and can be as rewarding when they come out right as any tricky angle,etc..

Les My old 220VS Hawk someone must have taken the stopper off.. as that one the arm goes WAY up.. in fact when I broke a blade one day the arm sprung up and busted my light bulb in my magnifier, LOL Being it was my first Hawk I didn't know it was supposed to be there.. Then when I got my Hawk 226 the arm didn't go up very high.. I never gave it a lot of thought until just about a week ago when I was doing a bigger project the the arm was always in my way.. to fix it... I just switch over to the 220VS.. but then started having a blade breaking issue.. My fault of coarse LOL.. anyway long story short I switch back to the 226.. even with the arm not going all the way up.. Finally when i had enough I started investigating what the heck it was hitting.. LOL.. I had thought about doing just what you was talking about.. But do note.. while it does help some.. the accessory arm then gets in the way.. or.. the blower tube, LOL I don't know if anyone else had done this or not.. but I'm considering either drilling that or making a L shape bracket and cut the bolt shorter so then provided you position the bracket correctly would let the arm come down a little farther.. this way you can possibly adjust it? Otherwise drilling holes might turn it into swiss cheese before you get a desirable distance, like they say.. measure once cut twice.. or was that measure twice cut three times, LOL

    Writing on wood

Perhaps it is something called veining if I understand your question. Fine lines are cut with a small blade. Some scrollers use a small spiral blade to make the fine line a little more noticeable. Not being a wordsmith someone may explain it better.

  42. dgman

    Writing on wood

Yes, Brenda is right. It is Called veining. Some veins are cut from the outside, and some are cut from an inside cut. And some you have to drill into the blank to cut. To see a very good example of veining, go over to bragging Rites and look at Scrollerpete’s cut under Another Dog Pattern by Iggy.

Mmm I think the 'lines' you are thinking about are not written they are actually cut into the wood.
