    Love Music!

I am busy getting ready for the Denton County Art and Jazz Festival at the end of April. It's a three day show and the biggest I have done so far. It's hard to know what to expect. This is a new project that I just completed that I thought might be fitting.

  6. First time cutting... in over 2 months... Hi, my name is Iggy and I cut silly little puzzles... How did I do? Just wanted to pop in and say hello to everyone. Seriously, I hadn't touched my saw in over 2 months and finally may have a chance to start cutting again. It felt good cutting these two just now. I have a new Pegas saw on pre-order. Look forward to receiving it in a month or so. See how it works for me. I need to cut 400-500 puzzles by the end of April... anyone want to come help? LOL I hope everyone is having a pleasant winter and able to make piles of sawdust. Iggy

  7. We are having a dinner next week for Valentines so I made one for the party. I must admit I have sinned. I had a friend with a laser cut me a bunch of the wheels for they would be perfect. The pattern and the rest I did my self. I found the napkins at the $ store. Takes 3 packs. I just love the ideas that come from the village.

    Custom Harley

Made this one for my good customer who said he would take all I could make for him. I used 4 mm Marine Ply for this one & I mainly used No 1 silver reverse blade but I did use a 3/0 new spiral for parts of the front wheel & the spring at the top of the folks. Cheers Peter

    hello my friends

long time no see. sometimes life gets in the way of spending time in the shop. i did manage a few hours this week to finish a portrait i began in Oct. before my new knee. this is project for pleasure. on the left: John Green, author of "a fault in out stars" and "Paper towns" on the right, john's brother" Hank Green, author of "an absolutely remarkable thing". together they began several educational channels on youtube and a channel called "Vlogbrothers" that has built a huge community that raised 1.5 million dollars this past December for "Drs without borders" among many others. in the center: Ester Earl, one of the first members of the vlogbrothers continuity and one of the most loving people i have ever seen. her amazingly positive outlook on life could not be shaken even by her terminal illness. she passed away at age 16 but lives on in the hearts of countless people that never knew who she was until she passed away. you can read her story in the book "this star won't go out". you can also see how she effected John Green by reading or watching the movie "a fault in our stars" , a story John based on Esther.

  12. I purchased the Bowl C-30 pattern from the Etsy site of Alex Fox. I enlarged the pattern by 25%. The wood is solid 1/4" Cherry 10 inch square. I used #68 drill bit and #1 FD UR blades. I finished with a spray coat of Shellac. The most time consuming was the glue up. glue a ring, let dry for 30 minutes, and glue another ring. While waiting for the glue to dry, I cut three Miniature Birdhouse Ornaments. Comments welcome.

  15. Well I was able to change some of these patterns around a little bit. I interchanged some of the bodies. I used the top part of one and drew the bottom part from another one. The red one is normal size napkins and the yellow one is with the cocktail/beverage napkins which are only 5 x 5. I'm messing around with another one now to. Have to get some fancy napkins for that one.

  16. “Complete”. Meaning they are all cut. But I have 3 pieces I need to sand, apply danish oil, and glue. Then they will be complete. Overall it was my most tedious project yet. More fretwork than I’ve done. But the end result is always worth the effort. 3/4” Brich plywood. Broke a few blades and dulled a few! The last 2 I cut needed a blade each. After I was done it felt really dull. On to the next! Got a friend that wants a lighthouse. Did these two today,

  17. My "must cut" pattern pile is beginning to look like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. If I never print another pattern, I'm set for about three years of non-stop cutting. (Probably need enough wood to build a 5,000 sq. ft. house)

  20. This is an AlexFoxUa pattern from Etsy. My first paid pattern. Really enjoyed the quality of the pattern. Congrats Alex on your mention and pic in the spring edition of Scroll saw magazine. You deserve it. I enjoy the realistic patterns you offer everyone. The frame on mine is Mahogany. Finished with 1 coat of tung oil and 3 coats of deft rattle can lacquer. Splines were 1/4" scrap of Baltic birch. The cut was 1/4" Baltic Birch finished with 2 coats of clear shellac/denatured alcohol mix then 2 coats of deft rattle can lacquer. Backer board was 1/4" Baltic Birch. Started out flat....didn't like it then went satin black. Blades used were Flying Dutchman 2/0 Spiral 35 TPI for around the mouth and the rest was Olsen Skip Tooth 2/0 28 tooth per inch. This is a gift for my sister who rescues and preps cats for adoption.

  21. I have don three one I already posted under just for fun. The other two are projects for the SSWWC magazine I can't post those yet but they are pretty cool. I have also been busy restoring a Heron chain saw carving that we bought at a Fox Chapel open house in 2014. It is outside all summer long so it needed sprucing up. I brought it back to this.

  22. Well I plow snow for a liven and I don't get to play in the shop much during the snow season. But once in a while something comes up that gets me in there. A retired coworker sent his sister in law to see me. She was expecting their first grand child and really wanted to have a sign in plaque made before the baby shower which was only a few days before the baby was supposed to be here. I told her I would try to get it done for her but lets pray for no snow. Well she must have done just that because I had just enough time to get it done for her. Well I'm happy to say the parents loved it and they had a beautiful baby girl and they are bringing it back to me to put her name and date on it. I love when people get excited over stuff that I make.

    Wood

I am glad I have several sources for wood. The woodworking club for domestic hardwood reasonable price because we cut and kiln dry our own. The woodworking store I demo at for exotic hardwood, and two other dealers for exotic and domestic hardwood. There are several other places in the area to get hardwood. Indiana has an abundance of places to get hardwood there are several sawmills to choose from. Eastern Red cedar is $2.00 a board foot from the club we had a member bring back a load from Tennessee.

    New Type Of Project

I may suck at it, but I love TIG welding. I have a cheap Lotus Tig/Stick/Plasma cutter combo that has worked very well for both Stick and Tig. If I ever upgrade to a dedicated TIG machine, I'll probably go with the very well regarded/and reasonably priced AHP Alpha-Tig. Have fun in your class, I'm jealous. -----Randy

  49. Technically, these are "bandsaw boxes" BUT the handles were cut on my scroll saw. While we already had an 18" floor model bandsaw (well hubby did) in the shop, he got me a smaller 10" tabletop Rikon bandsaw for Christmas. I like it for most of my needs and it is easy enough for me to change out the blades on it as needed. He also built me a stand to put it on. (Yes, he's a keeper. ) I had been wanting to try to make some bandsaw boxes for quite a while (probably after several were shared here in the Village no doubt.) This gave me the perfect opportunity to try some. The patterns are from a book I purchased, "The New Bandsaw Box Book - Techniques and Patterns for the Modern Woodworker" by David Picciuto. I have made the first two boxes from the book. The first one is aptly called the "Tennessee" box, the state in which I live. I would say that the design - very roughly sort of looks like the outline of the state (but not really. ) The second one is the "St Louis" Box inspired by the "gateway arches." I used scraps we had in the shop since these were my first attempts. Thus the "walnut" in the middle of the St Louis Box does not match up as he has in the book. I had two scraps of walnut, one was dark and one was not. I did flock the inside of each piece and the inside of the drawer with a navy blue flock. I enjoyed making these and plan to try some more. Thanks for looking.
