  1. I'm a big fan of the Lord of the Rings movies. So far I've been too lazy to read the books. Love this pattern by Charles Dearing. I cut it in 1/2" Red Oak . It's 8" X 10". The backing is rough cut cedar which I stained English Chestnut then fogged it with flat black from a rattle can to darken it a bit. I planed one side to get it to 1/8" thickness and cut 1 1/2" planks and glued them to 1/4" BB rough side up.

  3. Here are my first projects of the year. The hippo was my first done with my old band saw. The bird was my first done with my new Delta scroll saw.

  4. Made the box and the diffuser for my wife for Valentine, the hummingbird plaque is for a very good friend and the old man is just because I liked the pattern. I think I will get the torch to it. I just added the burn effect.

    It' Back!!

Well, Here is the latest update - DeWalt couldn't figure out what was wrong. Apparently replaced the motor again and the control panel and who knows what else. They shipped a new saw. Got a voice mail today that it arrived. I will be picking up tomorrow. It will be an exciting weekend because I also ordered a new bandsaw (Rikon 10-306) which arrived yesterday and I will be picking up tomorrow as well. I am so excited to get both!!!!!

    It' Back!!

Picked up my repaired saw earlier today!! They replaced the motor, brush assembly and connection rod assembly. Hopefully I have time tonight to do some sawdust making!!! The only thing that I should have done before sending it off would have been to put the old broken blade clamps back on the machine. Oh well. Also, apparently when the service shop I took mine to there was another one with the same issue; I was glad that it wasn't anything I did

  9. Saw the recent Hummingbird pattern by Alex Fox and the idea of a stacked design on coins appealed to me, so I bought the pattern and set out to cut the three layers. I used an Eisenhower for the top, flattened bronze Costa Rica coin for the middle, and flattened Kennedy for the back. As you can see, the scale is very very small, so the little bronze outline from the middle layers isn't hardly even visible. So, I was a success in that I got it cut, but not so much in the final result. I do like the top layer by itself though.

    Truck Puzzle

I get requests all the time for truck puzzles at craft shows and there isn't much out there. Also our local Toys for Tots Program wants trucks and puzzles! Found some time this week to design a dump truck puzzle. My guess is it will appeal to 5-9 yr old boys. My next project is to design a simpler pattern for the 3 yr old kids. bb

  11. Kevin, think bicycle chain. One buys a length of it, cuts it to size and since the links can be interlinked, one creates a belt. Improved the performance of my Delta contractor saw immensely over the past 20 years.

That is awesome.. Two new tools in the same day, LOL Good thing you swapped your stock blade chucks back on the old machine since they're sending you a new saw.. they probably would have kept those with that old saw..

  15. This paragraph from the U.S. Mint website should help to clear this up: Section 331 of Title 18 of the United States code provides criminal penalties for anyone who ‘fraudulently alters, defaces, mutilates impairs, diminishes, falsifies, scales, or lightens any of the coins coined at the Mints of the United States. This statute means that you may be violating the law if you change the appearance of the coin and fraudulently represent it to be other than the altered coin that it is. As a matter of policy, the U.S. Mint does not promote coloring, plating or altering U.S. coinage: however, there are no sanctions against such activity absent fraudulent intent. (Source U.S. Mint) Nice work as always Randy. I never cease to be amazed at what you can do with a coin and a Scroll Saw.

Glad to hear you get a new saw. Disappointing that they can't figure out what is wrong. Enjoy the bandsaw. If my Sears 10" ever croaks, I'm getting that one also. Love the fence on it. Have fun!

  18. Penetrating oil to get that adjuster free. Heat usually works when all else fails. Regarding the adjustable belt, I used this on my home built pneumatic drum sander. It works fine. That price from Harbor Freight is excellent, it normally goes for around $14 a foot.

  19. Had to google it.. interesting as I'd never seen that before.. Harbor Freight sells it to.. https://www.harborfreight.com/vibration-free-link-belt-43771.html?cid=paid_google|*PLA+-+All+Products+-+Lower+Sales+Items|New+Products+-+(2)+Price+%2410-30|43771&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&mkwid=s|pcrid|318476002941|pkw||pmt||pdv|c|slid||product|43771|pgrid|63088204546|ptaid|aud-454408222021:pla-298214533868|&gclid=CjwKCAiA45njBRBwEiwASnZT50_OgT5frXeqjp3QyDSD791DOnAyAvn3xBsiRIL5cAvPYCKPdPpP8hoC9ocQAvD_BwE

    Giraffe Shadow Box

I bet she loved it. I think there are a couple of really good ones in the library that she may like. Bragging Rights is not really about bragging it's about sharing with others what you have been up to and even give other members a few ideas. Marg

  30. Yeah, I'm planning to. I've got Fellowship of the Ring laid out to start on after I finish a couple of others. I read the Hobbit and really liked it. I think he and C S Lewis were friends and I've loved everything I've read by Lewis.

  31. Great job, a lot more than just the scroll work. You should really treat yourself to the books. Remember all the characters, places and plots came from the mind of Tolkien, so get it all in his words. And you should start at the beginning and read the Hobbit. My wife and I read the whole series to our kids as bed time stories. I wish I had grandchildren to read to.....

  36. I have don three one I already posted under just for fun. The other two are projects for the SSWWC magazine I can't post those yet but they are pretty cool. I have also been busy restoring a Heron chain saw carving that we bought at a Fox Chapel open house in 2014. It is outside all summer long so it needed sprucing up. I brought it back to this.

  37. Well I plow snow for a liven and I don't get to play in the shop much during the snow season. But once in a while something comes up that gets me in there. A retired coworker sent his sister in law to see me. She was expecting their first grand child and really wanted to have a sign in plaque made before the baby shower which was only a few days before the baby was supposed to be here. I told her I would try to get it done for her but lets pray for no snow. Well she must have done just that because I had just enough time to get it done for her. Well I'm happy to say the parents loved it and they had a beautiful baby girl and they are bringing it back to me to put her name and date on it. I love when people get excited over stuff that I make.

  42. Well my Delta 14" standing drill press's belts are shot, and like many things of Delta, parts have been discontinued. The tension lever is also frozen up so I'm going to do some surgery on that today, and if not fixable, chuck the two hundred pounds of useless metal. Hopefully though, if get that working, I'll try the adjustable V notch belts that I use on my table saw to replace the belts. The question is has anyone used these on belt driven drill presses? Blake

  43. If it were mine.. I'd invest in a couple cans of PB blaster and soak the tension mechanism down good. Spray it a couple times a day for about a week.. You might just free it up..that stuff does wonders.. As for the belt, I guess I've never heard of the adjustable V notch belt.. hopefully you'll get that adjuster working and can just get a standard V belt..
