I had to start on this one twice. The First time Paul Newman's eye fell out,so the 2nd time I redrew it as I was laying it out on the wood.Let me tell you I was still breathing soft and shallow when I got to it.And Redford's hair. But I got it cut.A Big sigh of relief.

  3. Ok, so I tried intarsia again... I tried to slow down and do a good job but the anxiety was still too much... All I could think about was getting the project completed so my stress would go away... Anyway, the snake is made entirely of Pine with various paints and stains... The frame is Western Red Cedar painted black... The backer board is Birch stained Carmel... I may make one last attempt at intarsia by using hardwoods instead of soft... I don't know exactly how to feel about this one...

  4. I been working on this display this weekend, and turned out pretty good, did it without a pattern as I knew what I wanted to do. Used 3 1/4" wide for the shelves, and did not put a support in the middle, as all my display items are very lite. Fits perfect on my 6' table and is sturdy enough Will tie the 3 boards together for easy transport, and put the ends in a bag. Maybe this will give people ideas. Its a lot easier then the last display I had.

  5. Pretty Easy pattern offered by Ashola in one of the facebook pattern groups. This was cut in a Kennedy, but could have been scaled down to a quarter.

    Dodge To Ponderosa

Well as you can see I have been busy these last few days, I have been having a Great time with my new saw. I have gotten use to changing the blades, a little different than what I have been use to, but I am learning.I,m still looking for a good pic of Adam to turn into a pattern.it's been hard with him wearing all black. But I will keep trying.

She has a unique artistic talent for sure. She uses Mother Natures coloring of woods to her advantage. Many hours in those pieces for sure. There are many more artist out there like this in many different fields and they stand above the rest of us. What we do is introductory level stuff but remember there are those who can not even do that and they look at our work the same we are at this artist's. So do not put yourself down. I always marvel at the pattern makers that make us look good as true artisans. She was given a gift and she is sharing that gift for sure.

  20. Challenging for any scroller. They keep you focused for sure. But for anyone afraid to tackle this type of pattern, all you have to do is remember is it all 'one hole at a time'. This is a fabulous example of patience and care. Beautiful piece. You do not have to enjoy anything Lord of the Rings to enjoy this cut Dick heppnerguy

Another nice piece by you and your framing is always an interesting part of your work. I love the challenges though. Dick heppnerguy

She uses virtually no patterns whatsoever. She mainly just starts cutting, working with what the grain, knots, etc of each piece of wood gives her to work with. Doesn’t have much use for plywood, Baltic Birch or otherwise. As best I can tell she doesn’t use tape, either. Also she has found selling patterns to me more trouble than it’s worth and personally said on her FB page that using someone else’s pattern is akin to asking a painter for paint by numbers patterns. I’m so taken by her work, unique style, and attitude that I am ready to rethink where I’m going with scrolling. Being closer to 70 than 60 Ithought I’d seen most of what was worth seeing. Wrong again!

  35. I'm a newbie at Scroll Saw Village and I just wanted to show a few of my favorite scroll projects I've finished... I started scrolling around 2005 when I made a wall clock for my wife's anniversary present... Since then, I really got into making fretwork clocks... My favorite so far is the brown dome clock that was so fun to make...

  39. We are having a dinner next week for Valentines so I made one for the party. I must admit I have sinned. I had a friend with a laser cut me a bunch of the wheels for they would be perfect. The pattern and the rest I did my self. I found the napkins at the $ store. Takes 3 packs. I just love the ideas that come from the village.

Too cold here for a sleigh ride, wind chill between -40 and -50 C all week. Charles Hand pattern 11 X 14 stack cut 1/4 and 1/8 BB ply. Used Sawbird 2/0 spiral and #3 ultra reverse. Jeff

  45. SUCCESS! Tried the local auto parts store for the belts, but no luck. So went to Harbor Freight and secured the chain link belt material and made up the two needed belts. Of course I made them one link too short but that was a quick fix. Cleaned out the mud wasp nest in the belt compartment (it is Florida you know) and turned it on. Smooth and quiet, almost like brand new. So thanks to all and I'm glad that it was a learning experience for myself and others who got into this thread.

  47. The napkins come out very easily as they are only 'slipped' into the holder. The whole thing then looks 'naked' but they don't fall over as they are on a flat base. Hope this helps.

  50. My first project was a big one. I am working on developing my technique of creating layered cartoon style scroll saw art. I spent roughly 40 hours on this project. The dimension (including frame) are 15.5"x21.5". I used naturally colored wood with no stains along with stained glass to pull this off. Aside from the silhouette layers, I did not use any paints. As for the woods, I used Padauk, Yellowheart, Walnut, Bloodwood, Oak, Figured Maple, Sapele, Aspen, Tigerwood and Mahogany. If you want to see more of my process - here is a link to the full build album https://imgur.com/gallery/BeB2nKi.
