  1. My cousin came up with this pattern for her cricut machine. I did it in Baltic Birch instead of vinyl.

    Dog sled scene

I got my inspiration from @Old Joe ‘s post in General scroll saw named “Truly Humbled “. I stacked the two pieces and cut once. It’s 7” wide x 3 1/4” high. Cut on western cedar. The dog sled is from a painting my mom made for me years ago.

    Critters

I have been very much enjoying making these little critters for a couple months. They are all under 3 inches tall. Except for the one dragon. I blew up the drawing and made the smaller one a big brother. He's 5 1/2 inches tall. I think there is 40 of them so far.

    Wolf

Here was one of this weekends project. Done on Basswood. Wolves and Eagles are some of my favorites to cut. Dragons too but I don't find a lot of Fret Dragons.

  5. This is Garden Kitty by Jacob Fowler. Pretty happy with how it turned out. Straight lines always gave me a problem- I did better with this. Not quite perfect but at least now it was do to me not having consistent pressure pushing it thru instead of the blade wobbling. Felt more in control doing tight corners than before.Did break a bridge on one of the fairy wings, now it just looks like a double wing. 1/4 in BB, 2/0 FD blade.

    new project

Projects on hold and in progres. The first is the wood is crumbling and the other one is my house number. The plain pattern is a Steve good pattern with changed font and a plain from SSV. The plain is from Neplun Janeuski. both in working stages. I have put the pattern together.

    BUCK SAW

I think that's what these saws were called. I took a pattern for this saw and reduced it a little. I left out the scene that is supposed to be in it and routered my daughter's and son in laws name in it. I am giving a demo on how to make / router signs for the guild I belong to, and this is one of my examples. the handles are oak, the brackets are walnut and the sign is curly maple. It is about 26" long. After routering the letters I painted them black. This will fit perfect with their decor.

    Dog sled scene

Very nice! A little water color paint or light air brushing and you could have some interesting Northern Lights with that wood grain! Not to say they aren't great as they are but, I immediately saw the Northern Lights in that grain and thought I'd make the suggestion. Thanks for sharing and God Bless! Spirithorse

  9. I had this pattern for awhile and decided to give it a go. Purchased from Sheila Landry and since spring is coming I thought robins were appropriate.

  10. The pattern for the Richmond Tiger was done for me a while ago by @Fab4 Paul and the Sydney Swans plaque was done by @scrollriffic Bobby. This is just one part of a large order but thankfully there is no rush, I can take my time with it. Marg

  16. Lisa Simpson stands 4" tall and is made with natural wood tones, no stains or paint. I used Yellowheart, Padauk and Maple. I am making magnets of each of the Simpsons. I have Lisa finished and the rest of the family to go. I'm trying out a new thing where I make a short animation of the dry fitting, let me know what your thoughts are with that; I want to know if it is something I should keep doing. Here is a link to my build album; let me know what you think! https://imgur.com/gallery/xweCZGU Assembly.mp4

    Beach Scene

With winter dragging on, I needed to do a beach scene to remind me of warmer weather. 1/8" BBPW on 1/4" backer. Finish, shellac and lacquer. Back to aircraft, a B-25. Need to get it done before my cataract surgery in a few weeks.

  18. I would replace it with a crank handle. The knob, if that is what you are looking for looks awkward to use for me. Something like this https://www.mcmaster.com/hand-cranks You should have an equivalent parts supplier to our McMaster in Ireland.

  20. In my opinion, Danish oil will give you a nice "softer" luster. When I use the BLO/MS mix it is at 50-50. I've also read somewhere that when using the BLO/MS, mix up only what you will be using at the time. Be very, very careful with BLO and any rag that you use with it. Very combustible if rags get balled up. Burns very hot and very quick. As for cost, not sure which is a better deal.

  21. I did the BLO, then the 50/50 blo/ms finally settled on the Watco natural, does basically the same but seems to dry better IMO

  22. Unfortunately for us here in parts of So Cal, we arent' "allowed" to buy mineral spirits. We are forced to buy the smelly stuff called "paint thinner". I have no idea why but our fearless leaders must have a very good reason for it. The were probably able to find more ways to tax it. I know, I'm very cynical but I hate being "nanny'ed" to death.

    FJ Holden

My customer wanted a cutting of an Australian FJ Holden & as Australian patterns are a bit scarce I had to make my own pattern off a photo .I hope it turned out o.k. I wanted most of the veining to be a bit thicker so after cutting with a No1 flat blade I went over the cuts again with a spiral blade & found the spiral followed the original cut very well . I guess it takes the path of least resistance & so follows the cut near perfectly. Cheers Peter

    fixed and finished

a friend of mine owns a fabric store and one of her customers drop their thread holder and broke parts of it. She called me I took a look at it and proceed to give it a try. I put it back together with thicker pieces . Hopefully if she drops it again it will not break as easy. thanks for looking

    mixed bag

Mixed bag of cuts, Patterns are as follows, Mermaid is by DDScrollsaDD design from years ago, Amazing grace is by Bobby Riggs, Fish fear me by Janevski, rhino is by Gayle at Scroller's Cafe and Chubby Unicorn is from a t shirt I saw. The Rhino and Chubby unicorn are going to a girl who works at the San Diego Animal park who is working on trying to create more Northern white rhino's by creating an egg to be fertilized since there are only male rhino's left. I donated both to her for the work she is doing. The rest were just fun cuts. Thanks again to all the designers you folks really help me have fun. jim

    Critters

Very nice! I have made several of those myself. Fingers get really close to the blade while making them because they are so small. I let the wife paint them up for me,, she likes doing the painting.

  31. 10 minutes? Wow. Is there a particular reason? To allow it to soak in? I'm just looking to bring out the color of the wood (poplar) so a quick dip and drip dry is what I'm used to doing with the mineral oil.

  40. @Sharon Camille Craig, @Travis, yesterday I email this address from the Old Crow Scrollwerks site: "helmuthurtich@gmail.com" asking the following question: "Do you know if you can still purchase the Old Crow scroll saw patterns. I belong to ScrollSaw Village forum and there is discussion there because a lady placed an order for an Old Crow Scrollwerks pattern, she never received it and gets no response to her inquiries about it. I sent an inquiry the The Old Crow email address and have not heard back." This morning I had the following response: "Hello Paul D. Of course you can still order and buy samples with me. The lady may get in touch with me. All my buyers were runum satisfied. we will find a solution" I think the respondent is a relative of the late Helmut that made the patterns and was a member of this ScrollSaw Village. Sharon you might email him and see what happens.

    FJ Holden

Interesting, I assumed at first glance it was the Chevy one, just a different name in Australia. Then I looked up FJ Holden and found out how wrong I was. These were made 1953 - 1957, long before the little Chevy pickup thingy. Maybe that is where Chevy got their idea. I know Chey's was model after the 1950 era pickup,,,, but the idea to build a modern scale down one may have come from the Holden,,,, or not.

  46. This is my first project of the new year.....I did it because I had been reading about segmentation scrolling for a while. After doing a few smaller pieces to work out the bugs, i tackled this piece. I was very pleased with the result, and have gone on to do several other animals since then, including, wolves, lions, bears, horses, and a couple more. I intend to sell them at fairs and festivals this summer.
