    Walter White Portrait

The Breaking Bad star Walter White is my new creation. From walnut and chestnut wood.

  2. After making hundreds of toy angels I decided to try to develop one of a young girl. Our club gives toys away to local hospitals and they asked us to make something for little girls to just hold on do during their visit. Five inches tall made of a fir 2x4. First photo shows what it looks like right out of the saw. You can see the feet need work as does the pony tail hair and the head. I adjust the shape using a "Mastercarver" rotary tool. The pattern is of my own design. You are welcome to use it.

  3. Here's what I have to offer. Just finished it. It's called the Royal Game of UR. Older than chess from what I've read. Very fun game. Kind of like Backgammon. Everything was cut on scroll saw cuz it was to dang cold to go out in unseated shed and use table saw.

  5. A double Toy box I made about 10 years ago. (600x600x1200mm). I made a few single ones prior at 600mm cubed. From memory I used the scroll saw to cut the internal cuts of the letters. I made the lids lift off so as to prevent little finger getting jammed with a hinged lid.

    Standing Deer Intarsia

Used Western Red Cedar, Walnut, Poplar, Select Pine, Wenge, Red Oak, White Oak... I took a little more time this go 'round and I was a bit more comfortable with doing the intarsia... Hopefully, I'll continue to get better at it because my wife has several project she wants me to do already and she keeps talking about buying more patterns... I've got to slow her down a bit... My finger tips are sore from sanding... This is a Kathy Wise design...

  7. Yes. It is actually it is pretty simple. Here is a boxer plaque I did. It is a pattern by Judy Gale Roberts. The dark area around the mouth and eyes are walnut stain. The rest of the face is 1/4" plain maple plywood. I used a fine point wood burning tool to draw/burn around the area that is to be stained. You have to go deep enough to break top layer of wood fibers. A sharp razor knife will accomplish the same thing. Once you have your line I just used a small brush to apply the stain.

  8. Thought I’d make a little St Patrick’s Day decoration. Finished product doesn’t quite pop for me like I was expecting from the pattern but it was definitely worth the unexpected challenge. I thought it would be fairly easy, just time consuming with a lot of small frets. Boy, did I not look at very closely. I noticed a lot of the veining in the vest and beard when I was prepping but didn’t realize how much until I started cutting and how I had to plan on the cuts on the fly. For instance, the buckle on the hat ended up being a much tighter bridge then I expected. I realized it as the piece start bouncing a little midway through. Also the beard and fingers, etc. . Never would have been able to do this with my old saw with the way my blade travelled on it, the pieces would have snapped during the cuts. The veins are pretty thin using a 2/0 blade and I know of the way some will go back through with a bigger blade but I’m a coward and couldn’t risk it. It's a pattern by Bob Valle

    Latest project

I have been working on this on and off for a few days when I have time. I still have some work to do around the base. But I’m happy with the way it’s looking so far. It’s a combination of 2 patterns. There is a 1/2” spacer between the front and back to give it some depth.

  12. First in Late Jan. I called and got on the phone with some other lady and she didn't seem to know how to explain very well what was going on.. she just said something broke and they was trying to repair it.. It wasn't clear if the scroll saw broke or something of theirs LOL.. I tried my best to get more info but honestly don't think she knew what it was.. Then I called again in mid Feb. and got Nicole on the phone.. she explained that the CNC machine had a broken part.. Never said what the part was broke but the more we talked I gathered it was a electronic controller? which I doubt another machine shop can make..She said they ordered the part but it was on back order for 3-5 weeks.. but said the good news was that they had received a tracking number and UPS website showed it was at their local UPS.. so she thought it would come that day..Said they had the CNC in a million pieces scattered all about the shop.. and also said everyone's saws are put together as far as they can go with them until the CNC is repaired and can start making the parts for them.. She mentioned all these saws some being in here office etc and they have no room anywhere to move.. Think she also said something about some saws at their house LOL.. all waiting on this one last part.. She also mentioned that they tried contacting the local machine shops to see about outsourcing and getting the part made from them but they was booked out until mid March.. she did get on the wait list just in case.. My last call the other day was... The good news is the part came in and they put the machine back together.. they just fired it up and they all jumped for joy as they are all stressed and worried about this.. I said me too LOL.. but.. she said more bad news.. The coolant or oil isn't pumping and they can't run the machine until they get that fixed.. she said they was all out in the shop working on that machine trying to diagnose why it's not pumping .. She said worst case is the local machine shop should be calling any time to make their part so they can at least get these 18 saws they have waiting for the part shipped out.. Sounded to me like they was having the local machine shop make a run of these parts whether their machine is running or not.. they set it up to have them make a run of the parts..

  13. A little late, but quite a few years ago someone in another forum said he was using the knob to use more of the blade. I sometimes use it to put a little more tension on a blade, especially when using spirals on 13mm or thicker. I do have references marked.

  14. I think the latest thing is their CNC machine for making parts is leaking oil now. before some part for it was broke and waited for it to be milled by some outside source. The only place in the entire state from what I am reading.

  15. My version of Kathy Wise's Deer Head Intarsia... There are a few small gaps here and there but I did the best I could given my circumstances... Anyone have any tips on what finish to use for it? Usually, I just spray it with gloss polyurethane a few times but I'm thinking there are better alternatives...

    Humming birds.

Made this today out of Cedar. Harder than I thought it would be due to the closeness of the cuts.

  17. Thanks Lawson, I have a few special orders to complete eg mounting a couple of paintings and cutting out a heap of 400mm circles from 6mm MDF for an art class. (Don;t have a clue what they are going to do with them ) I really like the quick clips set up from WTB for hanging cuttings.

    New work

Had time over the last couple of weekends to get some sawdust made after getting my two new saws. Used the band saw to cut the outside of the triangle puzzles -- so much faster. Still have to do some light sanding and put finishes on all pieces. There was a few more pieces cut, just no photo.

    Staining Question

you could get by with shellac. Might be tricky but first outline the boarder at the attachment point with an knife then apply the shellac to the groove to seal the area. I' ty it on scap but it should work. dh

  29. A couple pieces I finished while off work this week. The shuttle is for a friend at work, a sort of going away present. He’s moving. The lighthouse was requested by another friend as a gift for his mom. It was the first time I tried rounding the edges. I have a Dremel with the plunge router attachment that I used. I think it looks better than the squared edges. 3328E379-2E2C-409C-8458-3271A5DB4E7D.MOV

I tried another one of these. I took a picture of me sons truck made a pattern and this is the results. I painted the wood black before applying the pattern that worked much better. The first picture is the pattern on the wood before cutting. Next picture is it finished. The last picture is the original

  31. Probably my favorite book. A while back I thought the book cover would make a pretty good pattern. Not really what I envisioned but it turned out OK, especially since I'm a big fan. Reminds me of a quote from another favorite book. A Prayer For Owen Meany-"Nothing bears out in practice what it promises incipiently."

  34. Great work, Greg, You sort of short changed yourself with the photo you shared, however. Workmanship like that deserves a photo with a nice background that does not distract from the project. Just my humble opinion. Thanks for sharing and God Bless! Spirithorse

  35. Well it would impact me because I want to buy from a company that I feel will be in business for some time. I can not see how they can stay in business this way. I am not a business person, but I know enough about it to know they seem to know less than I do. And, just do not have the patience Kevin has. I think he has gone above and beyond. Service from people I deal with is very important to me. Personally I am somewhat worried about the Seyco. They give stiller service, but look at the competition for that class of saws now in the USA. King, Excalibur, Pegas and Seyco all with basically the same saws in the same price range. I'm not sure there is a big enough audience to support all of them. Scroll saws, I don't think, are a big seller in the wood working world nor is there a lot of repeat buying. Time will tell.

  38. They are lucky that you aren't in a hurry Kevin. I wonder how many orders have been cancelled because of their poor delivery status. I would not be quite as patient as you. Or at least I'd be asking for something in return for my patience. Maybe an extended warranty or something. Just saying. When you get to my age, time is the most valuable commodity I have.

  40. There are many machine shops out there. Why be held captive by one? I wonder if it was a tractor part if they would be as patient. I think not. I'm not in business but I wouldn't sit still for that nonsense. Go somewhere else to get your part made. Or to the mfgr. that made the CNC. Nuts!

  41. Kevin your post got me to thinking. The knob is the most moveable when the arm is raised. So I added a rubber band just to create a little tension to it is not totally free to move. It is working for me. Simple and effective.

    Question....

But, are they any good? Most pinned blades are probably junk. I would think anyway. And too big for most projects.

That looks great. I have a good Irish friend that might like that. I think Oak with a walnut backer would look great to.

  44. My EX-21 does this all the time. My tension knob has the white line on it. Once I got the arm adjusted correctly, I put a piece of tape, with a line on it, on the saw to show where the white line should be. Once I start cutting, and not paying attention to it, the arm will start drifting. I finally cut a block of wood the correct dimensions for my arm being level. It helps to quickly bring the arm back to level.

  46. Just finished spraying this this morning. A new clock for my wife's quilt room, if she wants it. When I say I did it the hard way, I tried to stack cut the outer ring in two stacks of two sections each. Got it done an tried for two days to get the ring glued together to my satisfaction. I just could not do it, I had gaps. If I were to paint it I could have lived with it by filling the little gaps. But I didn't want it painted.. So I did the outer ring in one piece. 332 cuts if I counted correctly, for the ring. It wasn't a waste of wood because the center of the ring worked for the backer for the main clock body. Does not have a movement yet, I want to get a pendulum one. I have to figure out what I need. The pattern came from scrollsaw.com. They do not have the movement they say they do and they do not respond to messages but other than that, it is a very nice pattern and you get it via email very quickly.

I like it! I have cut both of those patterns. Never thought about combining them. I donated the bike to the American Legion during a Motorcycle Charity ride for Children's Cancer. They auctioned it off for $95.
