  1. A common occurrence with some of us old folks. This pattern by Blaughn in the pattern library was posted here by someone else. I really liked the pattern and tried cutting it from the bottom of a serving tray which I think is 1/2" Poplar. I lost a bridge at the top which I caught and could have glued. The "V" was the flatulence part. Have no idea what was going on there. I re-cut the pattern from 3/4" hardwood. Don't know what kind. In the upper right I ran into a nasty knot in back of the material I had not planned on. I rarely post what I have cut but I'm bored today. Oh well.

  2. This is a clock like I made for my wife about 4 years ago and my grandson's fiancé told me that since they have been living in their own houses for a few years and have everything they need, they are not asking for wedding gifts, However, she did mention to my grandson that she would like one of Grandpa's clocks. ( This is the one she was talking about ) so I made them one. I have been working on it for about a month, due to all the company we have had and finally finished it yesterday, as everyone has left for about 10 days. I have two bells coming for the bell tower and then I will be completely finished. It has several coats of finish on it and in May we will be taking it to Oregon for the wedding. This is the most challenging piece I have ever made, along with the Eiffel Tower I made a few months back. Dick heppnerguy

  3. Bernd sent me this pattern after I had cut a previous airplane pattern of his. I am not sure how I will finish this one but I do know that all the pattern makers that post and share their work with the rest of us, are certainly appreciated. This one I cut in 1/4 inch BB ply. I am not sure if I am going to try to make a frame for it or just use an extended backer board instead. I do plan on cutting the manufacture's name and gluing is on of maybe just cutting it into this board. The pattern had that included in it but I want to change the font. This was a little challenging in places but I enjoy the challenges. Dick heppnerguy

  4. We have had almost and entire month of company, which has kept me out of my shop for awhile. I saw this little box on Steve Good's site and since we live in southern Arizona and there are a lot of scorpions here, I just had to make this for the fun of it. Not sure what to do with it, but it was fast and easy to make. This one only took about 40 minutes to make plus time for glue and finish to dry. The photo looks like it does not have a finish, but in fact it does. I am not very good at taking photos. Dick heppnerguy

    Mom and foal

Got this 11 X 14 finished and framed today. I made the frame. I wanted a rustic, western look but didn't want the frame to overpower the horses.

    Butterfly Update

Just showing the difference of the untreated and treated Cedar. I love the dark red color it brings out. I am working on a series of these out of Cedar, Walnut, Red Oak and Poplar. I will post an overall picture when I am done.

    Browsers Welcome

G'day all, I have just posted this pattern in the New Pattern Section. https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/forums/topic/32901-browsers-welcome/ I cut this many years ago for my stall, but as I almost always do I stack cut 3. I don't think I ever had on display for more than a market or 2 as they all sol.,d, along with another couple of batches. Cheers John It's amazing how much you forget. I had completely;y forgotten about this technique I used of staining the frame and backer the same colour. I think I may do it on some more stuff.

    Finished Micky

Made a pattern of one of my favorite movie characters. Here it is from the back side partially cut. Anyone want to venture a guess who it is? Hopefully it will be more obvious when I’m finished. *Finished. Burgess Meredith as Rocky's corner man Micky Goldmill.

  10. This is a Kathy Wise design... Used Red Oak, Walnut, Poplar, Wenge and White Oak... The finish is still wet; mane looks a little milky...

  12. Haven't posted anything of late, as I have been making the same old stuff due to a few successful markets and a lack of equipment. Both have been solved today. Wooden Teddy Bear haven't diminished any since I last used them about 5 years ago. Great service, only 9 days from placing the order to it arriving on my front door. Actual cost in Aussie dollars $175.00

  13. Nice job. Cool font on Redeemer. There was recently a flatulence occurrence in my shop that registered a 4.5 on the rectum scale!

    I Love Cats

I love big cats and have scroll several. I really wasn't going to do anymore until I saw one @mikewix posted on Lumberjocks. I had to do it. Not sure I did as well as Mike did, but I gave it a shot. It is 1/2" thick Oak, 12" x 15'. A Charles Hand pattern called "I Love My Jag", pattern # 062. I cut the bulk of it with a 2/0 Pegas spiral, the went back over it with a 3/0 Flying Dutchman New Spiral blade to do some of the finer detain and then over it again with a #3 Pegas MG blade to make sharp corners and points in the detail where needed. I'm thinking I would like to do some staining on it, just not sure I am brave enough.

  15. My brother owns a lumber mill business and called me last Friday to come dig what scraps I want out of the scrap bin and the guys were there doing grade lumber and they cut off ends and what not whatever is left goes into the wood stove unless I come get it. Last month I hauled about this much cherry and a little oak. He said they’ll be there again next week if I want more. I didn’t get time enough to get the other bin. But maybe swing back tomorrow to get the last bit. First picture is one of the 5 bins and the other is what I dug out of the bin. Some nice pieces of curly hard maple and I think there was a couple Birdseye.

  16. Hard Maple doesn't scroll very easily though.. I might make cutting boards out of a lot of this.. Or practice using my CNC on some of it too.. . Most of the the cherry load I got will become clocks.. if scroll sawing it.. it'll all have to be resawed in half as they are thick pieces.. below is the pictures of one of the loads of cherry with just a few oak boards in there too.

  18. I have been scrolling off and on for a few years, now that I have retired I wanted to do more. I joined the "Bay State Scrollers" I have done a couple projects, the one I am trying to find the pattern for is the Lighted Nativity Scene. I also scroll coins for pendants. Fir my wife for Christmas I did a portrait of our late son who passed away 2 years ago at age 29. I created the pattern myself from a picture. This is the lighted arch I will have to either try to create a pattern for or find it again

  21. Since you are in Arizona, why not get some scorpions and put them in it. Nice box, should hold several scorpions.

  22. Depending what type of project you are cutting you can accomplish a similar result by cutting 3/4" off the bottom of the blade reinstall and readjust the tension. Not recommended for cutting where a perfectly perpendicular cut is required like for puzzles for example. I had a situation one time where I had some blades breaking off almost immediately about 1/4 - 3/8 inch from the end of the blade. I decided to try putting one back in the clamp and adjust the tension and try again and it worked great for the type of cutting I was doing.

  23. I'm thinking you need a green background and then you will get your "pop". You did a very nice job cutting. When I do veining, I use a small flat blade first to follow the lines, then I go back with a 3/0 Flying Dutchman New Spiral blade and cut them again. It is quick because the spiral blade follows the precious cut and it gives me just the right thickness of a kurf that I like.

    Jet Band Saw

Looks in good shape and well kept. That is about a $500- $600 saw new when it was made. The thing that for me is that probably has a 3/4hp motor and this is fine for light work. 1hp or better is what I would want because I resaw my own lumber. Also a setup where I can change speeds. I say these things because I own the cousin to that saw which was Delta and I would want to upgrade. If you do not have a saw already then it can work for you. I would offer a lower price though. But looks in great shape but hard to tell about the blade guides and finer things from a photo.

  27. Checked my saw yesterday. The knob is solid and doesn't move. It looks like there is a nut under the knob. Just looking at the manual, it appears to be standard equipment. I bought mine from Seyco, before they changed manufacturers, if that makes any difference.

  30. Yeah, that one looks much harder with the baby giraffe looking right at the viewer... I can see how that would take quite a bit of shimming and sanding... I'm supposed to start my giraffes today and I hope I can do it justice... I will attempt to use as much profiling as I can but, of course, I can't promise anything...

  32. i have the white line on the adjustment knob, too. as with yours and others, the knob does turn and at one point i was having serious problems. turned out the knob had made a complete 360 without me noticing. thought my blades were gettin shorter, too! after getting it back to where is supposed to be using the line on the knob, i noticed its real easy to know its parallel. one full turn out of alignment can be seen with the eye.

  45. Here's what I have to offer. Just finished it. It's called the Royal Game of UR. Older than chess from what I've read. Very fun game. Kind of like Backgammon. Everything was cut on scroll saw cuz it was to dang cold to go out in unseated shed and use table saw.

  46. I have an EX- 21 that has a white line on the knob. If yours does not then adjust it to level and put a piece of tape or a drop of paint so you have a reference point. I agree that is does move too easily. Though rare I have wanted a more aggressive cut so to me it is a nice feature. I think you could unscrew the adjustment slightly and put a drop of blue Loctite on and then adjust to level. Worth a try.
