  1. I decided to cut a couple of Steve Good patterns, today. I liked the little boxes of his because it was one of this type of boxes that made me get interested in scrolling in the first place. I had been cutting intarsia pieces and loved how they turned out but found I was getting a little bored with them when I saw a heart shaped box that looked like it was woven that caught my interest. I always that that scrolling was just cutting an uninteresting outline of something and I just knew I did not want to do that. Well when I saw this little box, it reminded me of how I got into this whole affair and knew I had to cut it for that reason. Someone else posted one of these a few days ago and sparked my thoughts about wanting to do one, so here is my version. I did extend the base a little and stained the top and bottom to add a little interest to it. The other piece I liked a lot better and had a really fun time cutting it. I used a #3 Pegus blade on it. I decided to paint the backer board, which is the opposite piece that Steve Good darkened and after I was done with it, I decided I liked his version better. But this hobby is full of experimenting and learning so It is what it is. Dick hepperguy

    Golf Wall Clock

I found myself in need of a clock in my "home office", so after some searching I found just the pattern at the Wooden Teddy Bear. It's a Sue Met pattern "Golf Wall Clock". Armed with that I now needed to figure out what wood to use. A few months back we had an oversized chair that had some serious wear and tearing. Instead of dragging it to the curb I decided to take it to the garage and take it apart. The material came off quite easily exposing some promising wood. Took about a week to get it completely taken apart, I separated the wood into 2 piles. 1 for the burn pile and the other for possible projects. About 20% of the wood had potential. Gathered up enough to get 7 pieces an inch and a half wide and about 11 inches long. Ran them thru the joiner to square the edges then glue them together then thru the thickness planner. Ended up with a rather nice looking blank. So in the future I'll be taking furniture apart before tossing it to the curb. I ended up with a nice clock for my "Golf" theme office area... I did make a couple of modifications to personalized the clock for me. Chris

  3. I cut this , for my wife, from 1/2 Purple heart...the wood was purchased from Ocooch hardwoods.....I worked a lot of hours using mostly 2/0 & 3/0 FD new spiral blades....finished with a natural stain and spray poly......I think the wood makes this work !......The wife loves it.....I hope pictures show the detail of Fiona's wonderful pattern....Comments welcome....Steve.....I am not good with the tech end of things , my wife just explained to me i did not show two of the detailed pictures....hope i got it right this time....Steve.

  4. Some time ago I asked about staining poplar for a project my sister wanted me to do. The last picture is a cross stitch frame she brought. It was a fun project to figure out how to make all the parts. Stained golden oak. Made 21”, 23”, 4-38”, 2-55”.

  5. I recently bought a pile of reclaimed timber and in amongst it were several short lengths of macrocarpa tongue and groove. Luckily it proved to be an ideal thickness for inlaying onto some pine offcuts I had lying around so I made these small hinged boxes using the excellent tutorial by our very own Jim Finn. Rob

    Butterfly Update

Just showing the difference of the untreated and treated Cedar. I love the dark red color it brings out. I am working on a series of these out of Cedar, Walnut, Red Oak and Poplar. I will post an overall picture when I am done.

  9. A double Toy box I made about 10 years ago. (600x600x1200mm). I made a few single ones prior at 600mm cubed. From memory I used the scroll saw to cut the internal cuts of the letters. I made the lids lift off so as to prevent little finger getting jammed with a hinged lid.

    3D Chess

So I recently posted about an attempt I made at cutting a (very simple) 3D chess piece. It was only my second attempt at compound cutting and left a lot to be desired. This morning I am browsing Facebook, when suddenly in my feed this picture pops up. It is from the spring issue of Fox Chapel Publishing's Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts magazine. After the problems I encountered trying to cut what is essentially a simple outline, this kind of thing boggles the mind. Anyone here ever done anything like this? After my initial post on the subject, I got a lot of advice about blades for compound cutting , and I am currently in the process of trying out some that I have not used before. But this looks impossible...

    I Love Cats

I love big cats and have scroll several. I really wasn't going to do anymore until I saw one @mikewix posted on Lumberjocks. I had to do it. Not sure I did as well as Mike did, but I gave it a shot. It is 1/2" thick Oak, 12" x 15'. A Charles Hand pattern called "I Love My Jag", pattern # 062. I cut the bulk of it with a 2/0 Pegas spiral, the went back over it with a 3/0 Flying Dutchman New Spiral blade to do some of the finer detain and then over it again with a #3 Pegas MG blade to make sharp corners and points in the detail where needed. I'm thinking I would like to do some staining on it, just not sure I am brave enough.

  12. I found this video of my assembling of Imperial Tower at old CD, it is the most difficult scroll saw project I had ever made 4mm plywood, glossy varnish, I dont remember which blade I used - it was about 5 years ago

  13. We just saw something very similar with out neighborhood message board but it was for a 2007 Honda Accord with like 93,000 miles on it. The stories are remarkably similar. Lots of this crap out there and like crupiea said, there are far too many people who are still falling for these stories.

    Jet Band Saw

The saw looks quite similar to the Wilton No. 8201 I bought last fall for $300. which was made by the same parent company. The table looks identical. Yes there is a split in the frame you can see the bolt it is below and to the right of the switch. A riser kit could be installed but I would be reluctant to do so as it is a 3/4hp model. As far as a fence many options are available.

  17. The sad part is that people fall for this, thats why they continue to do it.

    Standing Deer Intarsia

Used Western Red Cedar, Walnut, Poplar, Select Pine, Wenge, Red Oak, White Oak... I took a little more time this go 'round and I was a bit more comfortable with doing the intarsia... Hopefully, I'll continue to get better at it because my wife has several project she wants me to do already and she keeps talking about buying more patterns... I've got to slow her down a bit... My finger tips are sore from sanding... This is a Kathy Wise design...

  19. you are doing a really fine job with your intarsia pieces. It amazes me how many scrollers seem to be a little afraid to do intarsia. It is really easier cutting, for the most part. You keep on making and posting them and perhaps you will inspire others to give it a try Dick heppnerguy

These are very cool. I'm going to be making a set sometime this year. These look fragile. What wood(s) would be best for this type of cutting? Larry

    3D Chess

Beautiful chess set, but I would be leery of actually using it. All the compound cutting I have done like that, the pieces are really fragile, but then again my experience is limited to ornaments.

    3D Chess

Every intricate cut is just one-hole-one-blade at a time. I cut some of Steve Good's 3D ornaments this past Christmas, and the hardest part was getting the patterns to stick to the wood straight. Make a jig to hold the compound piece, it'll make life a lot easier, and don't look at it as an intricate, detailed, Master-level piece. Just look at it as one more section to cut out.

Paul, Another one of your great cuts. I have yet to find one of yours that is not perfect. (pun intended). I have seen probably all or at least most of your work and it just reinforces my mediocre scrolling that I do. You are the best. Sure glad I have you for a friend Dick heppnerguy

    Dewalt DW788 Rebuild

I sort of disagree with adding more pictures etc of what you’re doing on a DeWalt. Mainly because there is several videos already out there and linked in several post topics. Just my opinion but if Bobs 4 part videos aren’t enough to learn about rebuilding a DeWalt saw then you probably shouldn’t take it apart yourself.
