    Music sign

Steve Good had a great pattern for Music - Piano that I really liked for my Granddaughter as she is really into music. She does take piano lessons but singing is her thing. Wanted to personalize so I came up with the attached. It is not finished as I will let her decide the colours then either she or Gramma will paint. Got to love Steve.

    Craft show

Did the first spring craft show yesterday, started out real slow, then picked up after a couple hours, sold $204 which was equal to last year. It was the only show around. Many Schools and Churches are doing away with the spring shows and sticking with the fall ones. Did pick one up for April at a Fire house there first year in doing it, this will be my last Spring show and looking forward to the fall. And by the way my new shelf system worked out great and much easier to handle. edward

Big thanks to Bob & Paul. @grampa @bobscroll for the pattern and text. I used a 2/0 Olsen blade for the pattern and used a No 5 for the 35 deg bevel.

  7. You have inspired me to mix two fields! They charge a hefty fee for physical fitness centers and they charge to rent tools. I'm going to set up a woodshop with bicycles connected to woodworking machinery. Tablesaw, joiner, planer, drill press, scroll saw, lathe, ..... I'm going to charge for people to exercise on the bicycles and charge woodworkers to rent the machines! Ahh, I can see it now $$$$$. RJF

  8. Fond memories. Nice job... When I was a kid, my uncle had an Indian motorcycle. He also had a side car for it and use to take me for rides. He had cherry bombs for me to throw at the dogs that would chase us... ahhh the good old days. One time he had his Indian parked at our house while he was gone..... somehow, not me, no way, never, honest,,,,,,, it got tipped over... It took every kid in the neighborhood,,,, "Our Gang" (remember those short movies), to get that motorcycle back up... My mom even came out to help!

  9. Have made plenty of these names Plaques in the past , but a special order this time - since retirement have had so much more business and my wife has stepped up her game in the pattern making and hand painting part of of my Hobby/Business . A coworker ordered this name Plaque for his wife - but with a twist , roses and and the vine attached. Well my wife spent more time making the pattern and hand painting than I did cutting it and mounting/ glueing the base on . The Customer was delighted with the outcome .....

  10. Spent years in various professional fields, one was electronic engineering. I had to learn Computer Assisted Design, CAD, in college and a variety of them to create engineering projects. Now a days they have CAD software for every engineering field and they even function to simulate the circuit, running car, rocket, missile. These CAD packages are very pricey so except for a few rich builders, few can afford them at home. I still do some design on a bench, but don't have the software. One software package I came across for a variety of fields is called 'Sketchup'. https://www.sketchup.com/plans-and-pricing#for-personal Its unique that a rectangle can be created and grabbed and pushed to a 3d block. Then a area of the block selected and push in to create windows. The software has been around for years and has free and plans. It has a complete library of everything from people to lumber to circuit parts. There are also loads of tutorials. Sign up under free and get a download. Its a fun and powerful program for around the house or a full out building or cabinet design. RJF

    New Font

A little while ago @heppnerguy did a beautiful cutting of a plane, however, the font that he used amazed me. I couldn't find it anywhere. However, Dick was kind enough to let me know where I could get it from. So today I tried it.

  12. This is a clock like I made for my wife about 4 years ago and my grandson's fiancé told me that since they have been living in their own houses for a few years and have everything they need, they are not asking for wedding gifts, However, she did mention to my grandson that she would like one of Grandpa's clocks. ( This is the one she was talking about ) so I made them one. I have been working on it for about a month, due to all the company we have had and finally finished it yesterday, as everyone has left for about 10 days. I have two bells coming for the bell tower and then I will be completely finished. It has several coats of finish on it and in May we will be taking it to Oregon for the wedding. This is the most challenging piece I have ever made, along with the Eiffel Tower I made a few months back. Dick heppnerguy

    Kookaburra

I have been looking for some Australian content in scroll saw patterns so when I found this one in the pattern library I jumped on it & thanks to Patch for the pattern,I made the backer a little larger to give it a framing effect.

  22. They are round shaker boxes a cherry box and a maple rim attached with brass pins holding the rim to the top of the box. The name crown box was coined by Scott Phillips we he was having lunch with John Wilson the shaker box guru at least that's the story John told. I will add pictures when I get my set finished. There was a several people there taking the class so I took mine home to finish. The maple bands were getting stain from the cherry so wanted the white maple rim to be white. The crown term came from the rounded brass pins around the top. Here's a picture without the bottoms or rims.

    Face book site

I've seen this topic on that group... and the designer was credited and they posted the website of the designer to the group.. There are a lot of folks on the FB groups.. especially younger generations because those young ones like social media sites.. You shouldn't leave the group simply because of them sharing the design around.. but rather explain the copy write laws and whatnot to the new people.. I believe the group is run by a few newer people so maybe they do not know.. This group is loaded with a lot of newbies.. Not only that.. but how can administration know who designed every pattern and not know that the person sharing the design didn't design it? That is a full time job in itself.. The design I knew.. but.. the designer also didn't have their name on the pattern either.. so.. who's at fault? Also the person said they picked up the design on pintrest.. I cannot do anything about the pattern sharing.. I see it all the time on many sites... I've also seen folks ask for patterns here and post the finished work on FB and say the design is theirs... I think a lot of it is designers fault too.. years ago designers put their names on patterns.. websites and disclaimers could also be put on them for how they can be used and shared.. IF the designer was really that concerned about it.. But then.. that's not my place to say or to tell them what to do.. I've mentioned it many times on many groups and also on this site.. how I wish they all at least signed it so 5 years from now I could remember who the designer is Etc.. Most of the older designers do put their name on them... some do put a disclaimer to not share it or use it for laser / cnc etc.. I do my best to educate those that do wrong.. I used to manage a few of the yahoo groups back in the day.. and keeping track of what everyone does is a royal pain in the behind and the dumb spammers and porn stuff that would be posted that I'd have to delete etc.. It became a full time job... I shut the site down.. Anyway.. it's best to try to educate.. so hopefully.. the newbies will understand and stop doing this sort of thing..

    Baskets

As i said earlier, just for practice. Now that I think that baskets might be on the gift lists for Christmas, I took a good look at my wood pile/stack. Very little thick enough for baskets so shopping trip necessary. Maybe some pics in December.

  41. Where was my call to come and help. I would make the 80 minute drive to help for a share. I just got over 800 2' pieces cedar for free to use in the woodworking club's kids birdhouse day. That's enough cedar to last 3 years. We usually get around 50 kids a year and so far we have 40 signed up for this year.

  42. I buy mine from a local lumber store that I get most of my lumber and many tools from.. http://theworkbench.com/.. Don't think they do online orders or ship items.. but anyway they have two locations one here in Michigan and one in Indiana.. They're about 30-35 mile from me.. but I typically buy enough to last me a good 6-10 months..

  48. Have thought about milling some of this stuff down and selling boxes of 3/4" or less thick ( scroll saw friendly ) boxes similar to what Ooch Hardwoods does.. Don't think I'd want to get involved with specific orders of sizes etc.. but not too hard to put a bundle together and mail it out..

    I made some dust!

Back with some new pieces and the new wood I'm trying cut pretty nice! First I have the lighthouse pattern from Birchbark (thank you for the pattern): http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/gallery/image/5199-lighthouse-coaster/ Second one is another hope pattern I made. And the third is a re-cut of my feather. I cut it on red oak this time, and I'm really happy with how it came out. My cutting has improved since the last one too. Few people are already asking me to make them feathers now! Thanks for looking.
