    Done (finally)

Finished this series of the Butterfly crosses. Walnut, Poplar, Red Oak and two Red Cedar. Plus, had a little extra time to day and did two fun ones that I found in SSV Vault.

  2. I saw this in someone else's post, and was directed to Steve Good's site. It almost needs Sid the Sloth's mugshot, but it hit all the right funnybones with me. 3/4" whiteboard from Lowes, finish is Minwax "Gunstock"....I ran out of my darker stains on my Mark Twain project, and since we were at Lowes this afternoon....following a family morning at the gun range....I thought I'd give this one a try as well. One of the best parts? My smallest drillbit is 1/16", and the #3 blades STILL rattled around inside that hole!!! But the bit is small enough that, for the first time EVAR, I was able to drill a pilot hole small enough to cut details like below the lower-right leg of the "A" or the end of the leg in the "R". I now know how Dr. Frankenstein felt. For slightly different reasons, of course, but the feelz are there.

    New Font

A little while ago @heppnerguy did a beautiful cutting of a plane, however, the font that he used amazed me. I couldn't find it anywhere. However, Dick was kind enough to let me know where I could get it from. So today I tried it.

Big thanks to Bob & Paul. @grampa @bobscroll for the pattern and text. I used a 2/0 Olsen blade for the pattern and used a No 5 for the 35 deg bevel.

    Craft show

Did the first spring craft show yesterday, started out real slow, then picked up after a couple hours, sold $204 which was equal to last year. It was the only show around. Many Schools and Churches are doing away with the spring shows and sticking with the fall ones. Did pick one up for April at a Fire house there first year in doing it, this will be my last Spring show and looking forward to the fall. And by the way my new shelf system worked out great and much easier to handle. edward

    Colored stain

I hate to paint wood, but sometimes you need some more vibrant colors on the work you do. I found a new trick, that might be old hat to some of you, but not to me. By mixing oil based artist paint with natural wood stain, you can create just about any color wood stain you desire. This opens up hundreds of new possibilities

    Squaring the Table

I always take the old fashioned way that "Less is Better". To square the table, I took a scrap 1/2" X 1 1/2" on edge & sawed a notch into it. Stopped the saw, spun the wood & held it against the back of the blade. Loosened the tilt nut, tapped the table and kept repeating until It fit the notch, until I could flip it upside down & the back of the blade always fit perfectly. Threw the scape away & made one to save. Bored a hole in the end & hang it by the saw. Check it often, especially when cutting a stack. A few years ago I Googled "Protractor". Put the image in Inkscape & made this protractor. Printed & laminated it. Glued it to a 1/4" scrape. Put a blade in backwards & cut a shallow cut at the bottom point. To tilt the table, hold the protractor behind the blade at an angle to insert the blade into the notch. Next, pull the protractor vertical & tilt to the desired angle. Really like both of these. jerry

    Music sign

Steve Good had a great pattern for Music - Piano that I really liked for my Granddaughter as she is really into music. She does take piano lessons but singing is her thing. Wanted to personalize so I came up with the attached. It is not finished as I will let her decide the colours then either she or Gramma will paint. Got to love Steve.

  15. This is a clock like I made for my wife about 4 years ago and my grandson's fiancé told me that since they have been living in their own houses for a few years and have everything they need, they are not asking for wedding gifts, However, she did mention to my grandson that she would like one of Grandpa's clocks. ( This is the one she was talking about ) so I made them one. I have been working on it for about a month, due to all the company we have had and finally finished it yesterday, as everyone has left for about 10 days. I have two bells coming for the bell tower and then I will be completely finished. It has several coats of finish on it and in May we will be taking it to Oregon for the wedding. This is the most challenging piece I have ever made, along with the Eiffel Tower I made a few months back. Dick heppnerguy

  17. That seems really quick to get that out of alignment. I would call Ray and see what he has to say about it, he might have more experience with it.

  18. Never had this happen to me. Your know looks a little different then the one on mine. Mine also has a jamb nut on it under the knob.

  19. I would start with a phone call to Ray who is the expert on the Excalibur's and see what he tells you. I don't believe this is the "norm" because I have not had that issue with either the used excalibur that I have or my Seyco saw.

  21. There was another topic on this last week. I have never had this problem with my Ex but do with my Jet. The topic had a few different tips on how to fix it, one of which was using a rubber band to hold it in place. I used that on my Jet and it worked great. Take a look at it.

My Dad was career Air Force, and for the longest time I couldn't read the huge building numbers painted on each building, because they used these fonts. It wasn't until I was about 7 or 8 that it clicked for me. Before that, I thought they were alien symbols!

  34. kevin the only ones I know of are from China. 55mm and 63mm I have the 2-3/4" inserts http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Alarm-Insert-Clock_12257416.html?spm=a2700.details.maylikehoz.2.30167fa4Bbs26g http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/63mm-clock-alarm-clock-insert-alarm_751344101.html http://www.alibaba.com/showroom/alarm-clock-insert.html The back of the clock needs to be open to hear it and I bet they are not very loud being that small. The only alarm clocks I ever made used the motor and dials.

    Craftsman

Looking at the picture, it seems there is a gap in the middle of the tightening screw. The ends of the screw should be parallel to get the best grip on the blade. If it is a new saw, take it back to the store for a replacement, or have them get a replacement tightening screw. You might be able to file or sand the end flat, also. Good luck with your saw.

Amber Do you mean tightening the blade in the holder or getting it to tension correctly ?
    1 point
  37. Dave you shouldn't have to worry about the tension. It the upper arm is parallel to the table, them the only tension is the lever on the top clamp,,, I know on my Hegner, I adjust the tension often with the back knob,,, not so with the Pegas, type saw... Mine is a Seyco, I know I am going to wish it was a Pegas.........

    Squaring the Table

My Hawk has a bolt on the left side and once the table is square to the blade you adjust the bolt up to be tight to the under side of the table.. then if you move it doing angle cuts you simply just move it back until it hits the bolt and it should be squared up again.. Mine has a piece of plastic / rubber cover other the threads of the bolt to protect it.. maybe to keep it from having baby bolts .. or would that be baby tables?

If using pine, that can have some very strong grain and it throws the blade off quite abit. All depends on the type of pine used.
