Always thought the Auburn 851/2 Boattail Speedster was an impressive looking car. The car was not in production for very long but because the design was so unique many reproductions were made in the '70's. I did my pixel pecking on MS paint 3 again and it took several days. The cutting took about 3 days since I only have one good eye until the other one is done next week. (FYI, there is a difference in both contrast and color. Undone eye has a more brownish tint like wearing brown sunglasses) Material was 1/8" BB with 1/4" backer. 17" x 10.5", Shellac/lacquer finish. I'll be holding off on any project until a week after my 2nd cataract eye surgery. Car, airplane, portrait or box, not sure yet.5 points

Step 2 complete... base built, mounted and power tested. The stand is quite a bit lower than the one I'm used to with the DW. Certainly not a problem, my chair is height adjustable. Step 3 will be performing some cutting tests (specifically related to puzzle pieces sliding in and out from both sides). Reminder, I have a day job (work from home) so I have to sneak into the garage in between conference calls.4 points

The Unveiling... The New Pegas Saw...
Scrolling Steve and 3 others reacted to Iguanadon for a topic
I look forward to putting it to the test. Yep, I'm a happy DW user and I know how long each one will last. The Pegas will need to last at least 2 1/2 years to be considered "better" than the DW as far as durability. Maybe the Pegas will be so smooth and sweet I'll never go back.4 points -

Pegas Saw Initial Review
WayneMahler and one other reacted to Iguanadon for a topic
I figured I'd create a new thread for the actual review for folks that may try to search on it later. Pegas Saw Review - Initial Thoughts: As I begin using the new Pegas saw, I’ll report things that I notice. Not necessarily saying they are “good” or “bad”, but things I notice compared to heavy use of the DeWalt 788 the past 4 years (For those that don't know me, I wear out a DW every 12-15 months). I’ve only cut 6 puzzles today since setting it up. So I’m sure I’ll have more to report over time. The big test for me will be if I’m still using this saw in 3 years as that's the major test... longevity… I’ll report back in March of 2022. - Pegas saw runs very smooth, no vibration - There is a micro-second hesitation from when I press my foot pedal and the motor actually starts. Certainly not a big deal but I didn’t realize how often I’d just “bump” the saw sometimes to move the blade just a hair and can’t quite do it the same way now, just have to get used to that. - I bottom feed and the upper arm on the Pegas rises way out of the way and stays, very nice. If you feed from the top I think it could be less desirable due to having to feed the blade through the plastic membrane that is underneath the table which catches saw dust for sucking out with the vacuum system. - The Pegas blade chucks are excellent, as many folks already know and use on other saws. The hold tension nicely. - The vacuum system works very well. No dust falls from underneath. Now if only they could have it suck up the dust from the top. - Definitely need an optional light that attaches to the saw. I was able to rig up my DW light to use, but one specifically for the Pegas would be ideal. - There is not much table space at the front, between me and the blade. Not a big deal, just a noticeable difference. - Because I never use the tilt feature on saws I can’t really report on that, but from what I’ve heard and read, it’s a nice feature. -Last but not least... the Pegas does not cut quite as aggressively (fast) as the DW, but it's close enough. Much better than the Hawk that I purchased and couldn't adapt to. I'll definitely be able to live with this.2 points -
I stopped scrolling.

Last weekend I fell and fractured the top of my left shoulder. No surgery needed but will stop my scrolling for 6 - weeks. That is a bummer as some of you know that I do scrolling as a fund raiser for the Arizona Lions handicapped camp. Over the years I have been able to raise over $50,000 for the camp and now here it is the Winter visitor season, the best time, Well it is what it is. John Old Dust2 points -
I met the fellow who had the Hawk 226VS on Craigslist this morning and long story short, I bought it and brought it home. Now, all I have to do is figure out where to put it. Other than some surface corrosion on a couple of parts, this saw is like new. I can't wait to give it a run but first I must do the clean -up. I am open for any and all advice from you experienced Hawk owners.2 points

I found this hilarious and brilliant when I read it a couple of years ago. Now the scroll saw manufacturers just need to figure out what to put on their shipping boxes to get the same treatment... Maybe mark it as a nuclear bomb. https://www.bicycling.com/news/a20027122/vanmoof-tv-on-box-damaged-bikes/2 points

Pegas Saw Initial Review
OCtoolguy and one other reacted to NC Scroller for a topic
Thanks Scott for the updates. The table is just like my EX-21. When I first got it I thought it could use another inch up front but I don't notice it now. To me an attached light is a non issue. My eyes are to the point where a magnifier light is preferred. You will get there one day I am sure.2 points -

The Unveiling... The New Pegas Saw...
OCtoolguy and one other reacted to JTTHECLOCKMAN for a topic
Looking forward to reading all these new saw reviews and yours will be interesting for what you do and the abuse you put them through. Happy sawing.2 points -
Report #1 - Cut a test puzzle, all is well. Just a minor adjustment to the tilt of the table to get it aligned and a minor shift of the table top so the blade was centered in the hole in the table. Moved the saw into my cutting area and realized... Hmmm, no light... I loved the attached light on my DW. I took a look at the Pegas and tried something... and it worked just fine... Using my DW light, just screwed on with one screw and the bolt shown props it in place. Quick and easy fix. Next is to do another puzzle with the vacuum system hooked up... It's all so exciting. Kevin I wish you good luck with this saw and we all will expect to see a good review from someone who has scrolled for a long time and has used an older RBI when they were a different company run by different people. To me they should be reaching out to you and others like you to get feedback and if they are trying to build this into something to carry on a well known brand name then do so by rewarding such feedback. In such a crowded market and with new saws hitting the market all the time they are competing for those $$. But as I said just this journey down this path to get a scrollsaw is not encouraging and to keep piling on with ever step of the way is sending bad messages throughout the scrolling world. They need to realize this. Maybe some time down the road you can send them a email and put in there the thoughts of this forum and your own and explain your unhappiness. yes you should have been compensated as well as all the others that waited for the saw. You do not know yet what problems lie ahead if they rushed to ship these saws out with flaws. For the price they are charging for these saws there should be no problems from order to delivery. These are not some 250 dollar saw. Oh well again good luck. I am glad I am not in the market for any saws anytime soon.2 points -
Congratulations. Look forward to seeing and hearing more. As far as the day job and conference calls - unless you are having to do a lot of "talking" - just take the call out in the garage and work and "listen".2 points

I'm now a proud owner of a Hawk!
OCtoolguy and one other reacted to JTTHECLOCKMAN for a topic
Never did any tuning on my saw since I had it. Do not see what there is to tune. That top looks different. Is that aluminum?? Looks like it is painted or one of those synthetic materials. It looks newer than mine because of the articulating hose. Back when I bought mine they did not have that to offer. You were able to buy the kit to adapt it later. The key is get it to lay naturally wherever you set it up. That includes loosening the leg bolts to let it settle and then tighten. Learn the blade tightening lever in the back. There are videos on their site as well as utube. I have said this more than once. Rarely do I ever touch that unless I switch to jewelers blades. Clean the clamps off of oils and maybe need to sand screws down. Enjoy. You will like the saw. Good luck.2 points -
EXCITED! I am anxious to read your opinion after some use. You are a pretty dedicated DeWalt fan, so your opinion will be interesting. Nothing in my mind against DeWalt saws, I owned one, but I thought the Excalibur was a definite step up. I look forward to reading your view. That is a beautiful looking saw.... unless you like yellow better.2 points

The photo would be best, but you could also use tracing paper with a very soft pencil so you don't put any impressions in the leather. Then scan it. You can then clean it up in a drawing program.2 points

Has anyone a answer
OCtoolguy and one other reacted to teachnlearn for a topic
Light it from all side or outside in bright sunlight. Shadows can give you false lines and overshadow lines that are there. There are actually photo tents that are sold, that eBay sellers use to help give high-quality pictures. Just a thought for those that frequently take pictures to make patterns. RJF2 points -
San Francisco 49ers plaque
stoney and one other reacted to Marshall Dillon for a topic
Customer special order , I cut it and made the backer board and made a frame for the backer board and my wife made the pattern and did the detailed paint job . I would have though the ladie would have wanted the 49ers on it too but no all she wanted was just S F . Used Baltic Birch Plywood and as you can see the wife hand painted it .I installed a picture frame Saw tooth hanger on the rear top where it can be hung on the wall . Any comments welcomed .....2 points -

Beautiful automobile and beautiful cutting. Good to hear about your 20/20 vision. I was nearly blind about four years ago from diabetic retinopathy. Fortunately two years of shots in my eyes now allows me to do everything without glasses with the exception of reading and scrolling.1 point -
Ah, and one thing I forgot to mention... The Pegas is not as aggressive in cutting as the DeWalt, which I expected, but it's much better than the Hawk I tried and gave up on. I'll definitely be able to live with this. (I'm going to include this in the original content above for future readers)1 point

Shipping. We did some mail business in Mundelein, IL for some years. We had a major shipping supplier a city over and could drive to pick up anything we needed. Stopped for a while when they charged $25.00 for pickup and claimed it was for safety since we were picking up right along with semi drop off and it was dangerous. Had a CDL and I think this was garbage. , "Lived in a family that believed work was a given to get ahead in life, mowed lawns at 10 and have worked in something since, my military work experience looked like a small phone book..' Anyway, they have locations around the country with a heck of a catalog and large supply of anything shipping, maintenance. Worth checking it for shipping ideas if you don't use it. The Unveiling... The New Pegas Saw...
OCtoolguy reacted to Wooden Lace for a topic
Congrats on the new saw! I've tried friend's Hawks and Hegners, plus have had Excaliburs and a Jet, but DeWalt is still my favorite. BUT....really don't care for the yellow, so this past winter when we were snowed in for over a week, I got bored and painted one of them. Masked off a few things and hit it with 3 coats of Rust-Oleum Cranberry, then 2 coats of spray lacquer. Sure is pretty! Everything that was black still is, just painted the yellow, and the ugly orange on-off switch. Noticed on one of my newer saws that the switch is burgundy rather than orange, so maybe they thought that was ugly too. Hope you get lots of use out of your new toy.1 point -

Basket 2019 a Steve Good pattern
Old Joe reacted to Denny Knappen for a topic
I saw this in his email last week and thought I would make one. I enlarged the pattern by 15% to make the basket just under 6" square and 2 1/2" high. The sides are 1/4" Baltic Birch plywood and the top and bottom are Mahogany. I used FD Polar #5 blades as I stack cut 4 pieces. Finished with spray Shellac. Getting each layer lined up when gluing was the hardest part. Comments welcome.1 point -
