    Horse Portrait

I finally got the second horse done. I think they look really good together. I see a stallion watching over his mare and offspring.

  2. One for the Basket Challenge, one because my inner geek (not very far below the surface, actually) thinks dragons are friggin cool. And my daughter, 10 years old, shares that sentiment. A friend of hers showed her some origami a while back, she promptly came home from school and Googled how to fold an origami dragon. Never even made a frog or a ninja star or any of the other usual stuff I did as a kid. Straight up to dragons. My girl. She was excited when I showed her the finished Dragon Pendant....can't wait to see her eyes when she realizes I also printed the same pattern at 300% enlargement, which conveniently fills up a letter-sized sheet of paper....

    Pattern by Steve Good

Steve did this awhile ago. I had to try it so I used a 3/8” piece of cherry. Took several hours but I’m not sure of total time. I liked it so much I hung it on my dining room wall. It’s about 11x14.

    Auburn Boattail

Always thought the Auburn 851/2 Boattail Speedster was an impressive looking car. The car was not in production for very long but because the design was so unique many reproductions were made in the '70's. I did my pixel pecking on MS paint 3 again and it took several days. The cutting took about 3 days since I only have one good eye until the other one is done next week. (FYI, there is a difference in both contrast and color. Undone eye has a more brownish tint like wearing brown sunglasses) Material was 1/8" BB with 1/4" backer. 17" x 10.5", Shellac/lacquer finish. I'll be holding off on any project until a week after my 2nd cataract eye surgery. Car, airplane, portrait or box, not sure yet.

  6. I'm always trying to tune the aggression out of my saw, but once you learn to tune it, you will find you can take it to the extremes if you so desire. It will be interesting to see where you end up with this. Many folks remove the plastic dust collection membrane. I took mine off almost immediately. The membrane and the dust collection holes in the table are the only things I don't like about the design. Overall, I love these Taiwan saws, regardless of the Brand stuck to the side. The Pegas clamps do rock!

  7. Finally made my first basket. Found the process to be kinda tedious....dunno why, I can sit there and move blades from hole to hole, holes so tiny that it takes longer to move the blade than it does to shave off the millimeter of excess wood, and not blink an eye. But cutting repetitive patterns? Nearly drove me bonkers. ....okay, nearly drove me MORE bonkers. But I made a basket!!! So....if I make a box, and put the basket INSIDE the box...will I have made a basket-case? ::ducks and runs:: Steve Good pattern:

  8. So, I quickly got spoiled by the dust collection I had set up on my Dewalt (using the Scrollnado) and was really missing it with the Pegas with dust being nicely sucked up from the bottom, but blowing around on top... so I just make a quick modification and BAM, now I have 100% dust collection again... Simply ran some clear tubing I had laying around after drilling a hole in the vacuum hose connector to the Pegas saw. Very happy Iggy now.

  9. I figured I'd create a new thread for the actual review for folks that may try to search on it later. Pegas Saw Review - Initial Thoughts: As I begin using the new Pegas saw, I’ll report things that I notice. Not necessarily saying they are “good” or “bad”, but things I notice compared to heavy use of the DeWalt 788 the past 4 years (For those that don't know me, I wear out a DW every 12-15 months). I’ve only cut 6 puzzles today since setting it up. So I’m sure I’ll have more to report over time. The big test for me will be if I’m still using this saw in 3 years as that's the major test... longevity… I’ll report back in March of 2022. - Pegas saw runs very smooth, no vibration - There is a micro-second hesitation from when I press my foot pedal and the motor actually starts. Certainly not a big deal but I didn’t realize how often I’d just “bump” the saw sometimes to move the blade just a hair and can’t quite do it the same way now, just have to get used to that. - I bottom feed and the upper arm on the Pegas rises way out of the way and stays, very nice. If you feed from the top I think it could be less desirable due to having to feed the blade through the plastic membrane that is underneath the table which catches saw dust for sucking out with the vacuum system. - The Pegas blade chucks are excellent, as many folks already know and use on other saws. The hold tension nicely. - The vacuum system works very well. No dust falls from underneath. Now if only they could have it suck up the dust from the top. - Definitely need an optional light that attaches to the saw. I was able to rig up my DW light to use, but one specifically for the Pegas would be ideal. - There is not much table space at the front, between me and the blade. Not a big deal, just a noticeable difference. - Because I never use the tilt feature on saws I can’t really report on that, but from what I’ve heard and read, it’s a nice feature. -Last but not least... the Pegas does not cut quite as aggressively (fast) as the DW, but it's close enough. Much better than the Hawk that I purchased and couldn't adapt to. I'll definitely be able to live with this.

  10. Very very nice. Man, when you stop and think about it, do all realize how much Steve Good has done for the scrolling community? It is amazing to me that one could give so much.

  11. I found this hilarious and brilliant when I read it a couple of years ago. Now the scroll saw manufacturers just need to figure out what to put on their shipping boxes to get the same treatment... Maybe mark it as a nuclear bomb. https://www.bicycling.com/news/a20027122/vanmoof-tv-on-box-damaged-bikes/

  12. My Grandson turns one tomorrow. Made this for the cake. I didn't have a wide enough piece of wood, so I glued skewers to the back. Sprayed with a finish called TintIT. It provides a gold shimmer to the wood with a sheer colour. You can spray numerous times to get the tint a little darker. Will definitely be trying for ornaments.

  16. Look at Iggy go! I have been toying with doing something like that to my old EX. Mine is old enough though that there is no dust collection on it so whatever I come up with will be entirely new to the saw. I have a bunch of tubing lying around but I need to go get some fittings. Another trip to H/D is in order.

  17. Time to put a nickel on the very end closest to you, crank that speed to full on, and see how it does. Also, if you have a new fancy phone, try taking a normal speed video, then slow motion video of the blade from the side, and front with the saw wide open. That will show the stability of the blade. ------Randy

  18. I have seen FedX in action because we built a plant for them and yes there is automation to a point and packages do fly and have seen them fly off the conveyors. Loading on trucks is manual and again yes conveyor are sometimes used but not always and the throwing method is employed. Some of those people should try out for some baseball teams. Keven that spring steel clip is something I did years ago on mine because those plastic ones stretch out. Thanks for the photos. There are some different things there and probably because of the system to make this a top and bottom feeder and more adjustable. Good luck with it.

  19. My view is, and just a view, but things have to be packaged for tough handling. A lot of the handling is by machines, not people and it is pretty chaotic from what I hear, I have not seen inside a big distribution center with all the machines, but have had it described to me. Boxes tumbled, pushed and shoved by machines.... Not just humans getting it from one place to another... so it has to be packaged to take it.

    Music sign

Steve Good had a great pattern for Music - Piano that I really liked for my Granddaughter as she is really into music. She does take piano lessons but singing is her thing. Wanted to personalize so I came up with the attached. It is not finished as I will let her decide the colours then either she or Gramma will paint. Got to love Steve.

  25. Customer special order , I cut it and made the backer board and made a frame for the backer board and my wife made the pattern and did the detailed paint job . I would have though the ladie would have wanted the 49ers on it too but no all she wanted was just S F . Used Baltic Birch Plywood and as you can see the wife hand painted it .I installed a picture frame Saw tooth hanger on the rear top where it can be hung on the wall . Any comments welcomed .....

    Colored stain

I hate to paint wood, but sometimes you need some more vibrant colors on the work you do. I found a new trick, that might be old hat to some of you, but not to me. By mixing oil based artist paint with natural wood stain, you can create just about any color wood stain you desire. This opens up hundreds of new possibilities

  29. Well try to make this short.. My tracking number shows delivery was to be today by end of day.. I signed up on UPS to send me updates on my phone last night got a confirmation text to reply to so they know they got the right number.. did that and never another text, email or phone call.. I have to pick up my son everyday at school.. been nice if I could have known via phone call or something so I could be here when they came.. My daughter was home so she could have signed.. They left the thing on my porch never knocked.. or anything.. Bushton said that I'd need to sign for it.. nope they just left it here.. standing on end too.. I was fired up when I come up the road to see the huge box standing on end.. I had a feeling they'd do that.. I wondered if I missed him because as I topped the hill getting to turn on my road I seen him up the road.. I did manage to get it to the shop and put it together.. Everything seems good.. I'm amazed at how much smoother and quieter it runs compared to either of my older Hawks.. Couple things I'm not supper impressed with that I'll get into more details about later.. I wanted to video the unboxing etc. but didn't have a way to hold the phone / camera.. so I took several pictures.. I'll be editing this post shortly with pictures.. The pictures are on my phone and I didn't want to type all this on that little phone screen.. so I'll just edit in a few with pictures.. Hold tight. pictures in a min. This is how how UPS left my saw for me. Here is some pictures of opening the box. And unpacking it. I didn't want to damage the box or packaging in case I needed to send it back.. so I pulled it up on one end of the box and then got it to a point where I could just tip the box up and slide it out of the box.. quite easy to do by myself this way rather than lifting it up out of the box.. Tilting it this way it was resting on the front part of the board that it's mounted to.. I'll show some more photos of this in a few.. They have these torx head screws holding it to the wood shipping crate.. good thing I have torx screw drivers.. Many people I know do not have these type of tools. maybe they are just old fashion.. but I'd have thought that it'd be better to use Philips head screws so you don't have to go buy tools just to get it out of the packaging LOL Tilted it on its side and used the packing foam to protect the table while I mount the legs My dog.. he had to make sure nothing was here that might jump out and bite me.. He walked away and said everything was good to go... nothing harmful The foot switch and the accessory table in this box.. I wanted the table.. contemplated not getting it but I find I'm always setting stuff on the saw tables of the saw next to the one I'm using.. then when I need to use the one next to me I have to clean off all the blades and pliers etc to use it.. hoping this will help.. if so I may make or order more of these for my other saws.. The Hawks table came with these spots that I thought was grease.. and may be grease but it's not coming off on my finger so I don't know. also was some spots on it like a small circle s if they had stuff setting on the table.. first thought was a soft drink can or something but was quite a lot smaller than the cans we have here in Michigan anyway, LOL.. I wasn't impressed with the professionalism of getting it that way.. but they will ( I'm sure) come off with a waxing of the table etc..

  30. Okay, LOL... so looking for a app to measure vibration.. I learn more than I needed too.... word to the wise.. careful how you word your search term when searching something like that... Who knew there was... well never mind.. not going there with that one..
    1 point
  31. It'll definitely pass the nickle test.. it's a lot smoother than my 226 Ultra and the Ultra is smoother than the old 220VS.. I haven't done any tuning or anything to it yet short of just putting the legs on it.. There is a harmonic imbalance where it picks up some shakes.. right before about half speed.. which all my Hawks have this... the new one seems smoother in that shaky position too.. but probably not by much.. I think I might get the vibration app on my phone just to see where all the saws I have stand.. Aside from that Harmonic imbalance I'd say they're a little smoother running than my Excalibur.. but.. the EX is smoother throughout the whole spectrum than the Hawks.. The EX isn't as smooth as my DeWalt even.. but many say it's smoother than the DeWalt.. Though I do need to work on the EX some more now that I got everything running right.. so not a fair call on that yet.. EX is smooth.. but.. I've had a lot of issues with the EX.. and some things on the saw was loose when I got it straight out of the box.. so I'm thinking the workers at the factory are letting some skip by QC.. Just read yesterday about the same sort of issues with a Pegas brand that a guy just got.. it was on a FB group.. he called Bear Wood and they went through the whole saw with him over the phone.. So that being said... Maybe I should give BW more credit than I do... They left me with a sour spot by holding out on mailing my order for 3 weeks.. and have read some of the same things from others... But it looks like they do try to work with issues if one has some.. and that's a good thing this day and age..

  33. Sorry to hear about the back injury.. that is one of the worst things to deal with... many live daily with back pain.. Hope you get to feeling much better and can get out and make some sawdust. Makes sense cost wise in your case to not make custom packing.. Maybe the same case as for Bushton.. I agree about the signatures... would be nice to see fingerprint stuff but then that'd be hacked in some way too.. they already have readers for phones etc.. now I've heard of eye reader things, LOL

  38. Kevin at least it is in your hands and how well it cuts is to be determined. But have a couple questions. First off was there any stickers on the box saying to not stand on edge or this side up or any warning of any kind?? Next if you can take a photo of the blade clamps both top and bottom. Something looks different than the older ones like I have. Also I thought they hollowed out the arm. Is it hollowed under the arm?? The model before had an I beam shape to help with the weight factor. from your photo of it on the floor it does not look hollowed out. Does the arm raise as much as the older models?? Does it have the same bearing system in the back. From the photos it doesn't look like it. Just from photos it looks different in a few ways. look forward to your review and how the movement of the blade for aggressiveness helps you. Because I think that was a complaint of yours as well as Iggys when he had one. I have to say I have never seen one of these models up close or had a chance to scroll on one. Have to live the experience through people like you.

  42. Step 2 complete... base built, mounted and power tested. The stand is quite a bit lower than the one I'm used to with the DW. Certainly not a problem, my chair is height adjustable. Step 3 will be performing some cutting tests (specifically related to puzzle pieces sliding in and out from both sides). Reminder, I have a day job (work from home) so I have to sneak into the garage in between conference calls.

  45. I saw this in his email last week and thought I would make one. I enlarged the pattern by 15% to make the basket just under 6" square and 2 1/2" high. The sides are 1/4" Baltic Birch plywood and the top and bottom are Mahogany. I used FD Polar #5 blades as I stack cut 4 pieces. Finished with spray Shellac. Getting each layer lined up when gluing was the hardest part. Comments welcome.

  48. This is a clock like I made for my wife about 4 years ago and my grandson's fiancé told me that since they have been living in their own houses for a few years and have everything they need, they are not asking for wedding gifts, However, she did mention to my grandson that she would like one of Grandpa's clocks. ( This is the one she was talking about ) so I made them one. I have been working on it for about a month, due to all the company we have had and finally finished it yesterday, as everyone has left for about 10 days. I have two bells coming for the bell tower and then I will be completely finished. It has several coats of finish on it and in May we will be taking it to Oregon for the wedding. This is the most challenging piece I have ever made, along with the Eiffel Tower I made a few months back. Dick heppnerguy
