    Thanks Fab4

A couple of months ago a friend rang me up and told me that her son was getting married and that the future bride had something in mind to go on the barn door of the reception but could not find the exact thing she was looking for. She mentioned what it was and my friend said, oh Marg can do that. So they came around and bought the wheel with them. we discussed a few thing and when we had what we wanted I contacted Paul (Fab4) and he did the pattern for me. Well the big day was Saturday so on Sunday she sent me this photo of 'our' work. Thanks Paul for your help once again. Marg

  4. As you may or may not know, from some of my previous posts, I have a grandson who is a captain in the Army Special Forces. I ran across this pattern on Sue Mey's site and just had to buy it and make it for him. It is made from BB Ply and it approx. 11 inches. I know he will like it and I will be able to give it to him personally because I will be seeing him at the wedding we are going to in Portland, at the end of May. Dick heppnerguy

  5. My wife likes Leopards.. so I made her this Leopard for our anniversary a few years ago.. wrote a little love note on the back. hangs in our bedroom.. Then also.. My mother passed away when I was like 10 years old from cancer.. and she collected owls.. anything owl she loved it.. so in memory of her I made these owls.. Before my daughter knew about my mothers liking owls she took a liking to them too.. so I've made these and they hang in our house as well.. The wolf picture is something I made for my daughters 4th grade class..to auction off as a fund raiser to take a class trip to Mackinac Island.. it was the last year the school was taking that trip due to cuts and funding for class trips and without the fund raisers they wasn't going to go.. fortunately they did raise enough to take the trip.. This was a while ago because my daughter is in the second year of college now, LOL

    Shop Sign

Been working on this for 2 months! Been sick the last 7 to 10 days. Thanks to all that took the time to make patterns for the words, very much appreciated. Used Maple and Walnut. The buttons are for looks only, mounted from the inside of the shop. Didn't realize how bad the shop door needs painted. I also try to save the pattern when I remove them from the piece,, I was able to use it to spray paint the inside of the door.

    I had ro cut this!

I cut a lot of crosses for craft shows and when I seen this one it had to cut! I cut it from 1/4 inch poplar and the "frame" is 1/4 inch MDF. I want to thank Travis Cook for the pattern and it is definitely different! Erv

  9. Nice work Kevin. My wife was an owl freak when we first married (back when dirt was new). You could not go into any house without owls starring at you. Then she got into Longaberger Baskets, they are all over the house. My son-in-law, one of the first times he and my daughter came to our house for a weekend, after they were married, went in to one of the bathrooms, he was, I assume, sitting there and all of sudden he calls out "oh, my God, I have counted 13 basket in here!". Now it is quilting... material everywhere.... I love her, what can I say.....

    New Dewalt.

Congrats and enjoy! I had a Dewalt for several years. Never had any real problems with it, just normal wear and maintenance stuff. I never even had to grease/replace the bearings & bushings like so many here have done. But then, I didn't use mine as much as some others do. I sold it a couple years ago, when I got my EX-21. I was tempted to keep it as a back-up saw, but just didn't have the shop space for it. I like my EX, but still sorta wish I had been able to hang on to the Dewalt. If you don't already have one, get a foot switch for it. You will be glad you did.

    New Dewalt.

I started with a Dewalt and I love it. Of course I have nothing to compare it to but I also have no complaints. Like Darryl said, the lifter is a must. I waited for about 6 months before I finally got one, and within an hour it was already a part of my tension/turn off/ move to the next hole routine. I don't even realize I'm using it most of the time now, its just second nature.

    New Dewalt.

You will learn to love it. Two things you might want to add is the sonaldo ( cuts clean up and dust) attached to an old shop vac and the lifter to keep the arm up while loading. Minor but will make the great saw even better.

    Waxing the Table

I was in a Transport Company and every time we'd bring the trucks or any vehicle for that matter back to the Depo. we'd grab a gallon of Olive Green and a 4" brush and slap it on any scratches etc In some places I think they where bullet proof because of all the paint

I lived there so far back both the aircraft carrier and submarine I served have been sunk. Folks that serve on subs generally don't serve on the surface. Strange trade, but they needed a tech to troubleshoot problems. I was traded in a bar conversation. RJF

  17. Seemed to me after a 1-year membership, that SAW was a lot like the oil additives you used to buy for your car at the service station - -Remember those? Pay your $20 and you notice an amazing and immediate loss of $20 - -and not much else.

  18. I know I posted about this company last year but every so often there is a new batch of scrollers who need a good source to buy wood from. If you are like me and live on the West side of the U.S. there are not many places to buy from. It seems like everything is East of the Mississippi River. I just received my latest order from Cherokee Wood Products in Upland, Ca. They even have a "scroll saw wood" listing on their webpage. A very nice young man by the name of Chris is in charge of their online ordering. He had a question on my order and took the time to call me. I placed the order last Friday and just received it today. Can't beat that for getting it out and shipped. I checked my email today and found that they had sent me an email and for no reason at all, they credited my credit card for $19.95. Just because they felt like it. So, I hope you will give them a try. Here is their info. https://www.cherokeewood.com. Once you get there, go to "woodworking supplies" and the scroll saw wood is there. Click on it and start shopping.

  30. Yep, I got that pattern also. I have all her tree/foliage patterns. But I am not going to buy any more patterns..... New Years resolution... I think I have only purchased 10 since I made it. I am doing the Viking in quarter sawn oak. It is the hardest wood I have ever used in scrolling. I am struggling. Wish I had picked some other wood, but I am over half done now.

    40-694 problem

Larry If you have a volt meter you can measure the voltage at the entrance for the controller board. Then measure the volt on the output side. If you have voltage at the beginning and not at the out put then most likely the board went bad. You should also be able to adjust the output with the speed control and see the difference on the meter. If you are not familiar with electricity I would ask someone that is for help. You would also need to see if the motor is dc before testing the output values. Totally different type of electric and needs measured for dc not ac such as come out of plug in the wall.

    Waxing the Table

I don't know if the Navy still uses the Bremerton Ship Yard. In the Puget Sound Bay west of Seattle. Everything rusted and it constantly rained holding up projects. I could never figure out why the site was ever picked. RJF

    Finished Napkin Holder

Posted my rough idea for a napkin holder for my daughter-in-laws baby shower a couple months ago. Of course it got crazy and I never got to it. Shower was today so finally got on the ball and got it done. Used 1/2 inch oak and happily was able to get a tight fit so the base and napkin holders didn’t need glue. Wanted it so it could be taken apart then used as a chain/necklace holder when she gets older. I’m hoping to be able to venture into boxes by the time she’s older to make a base with a drawer for rings and earrings.

    Dust Collection Gates

They do make open ended gates, but the slide is a little longer. https://www.ptreeusa.com/dust_blastgates.html You'll note that the price is about double the cost of the regular gate. I haven't had any problems with mine so I just get the cheap ones & cut them off. I did think about making my own out of 1/2" ply, but the cost of the wood was just as great if not more than the cheap gates.
    1 point
  44. That is good. Have to ask then why have they not made gates like this with the back end open?? Debris is something that plagues just about all gates systems. The best gates are ones with rounded corners.
    1 point
  45. Be careful when you cut the ends off like that air is lost and any lost air affects suction. Those plates are not exact fits in the slots. Just my thoughts.
    1 point
  46. I use these gates - I have about 10 of them on various outlets with no problems As others have mentioned, they need to be kept clean - I'm going to try @tgiro 's method - sounds like a winner

  48. The Yorkie I made for an aunt, for Christmas. She's always got an emotional-support-Yorkie. The Dane, made him for my wife after we lost our first Dane, Rebel, to bloat. Smartest dog I've ever met (including the Husky we fostered....that dog was smart, but had to be part weasel, too, so Rebel the Dane took first place in my heart). Both have an open section on them, but were cut on my first scroll saw, the weekend I picked it up from a yard sale. I hadn't looked up the manual online yet, so wasn't really sure how to change the blades or what size hole to drill. The rusty blade in the saw still worked, though, and didn't break until my next project. The flying unicorns, I'd figured out blades, found a local source of 3" pin-ended blades (Ace Hardware), and figured out which drill bit to use for pilot holes. These still hang on my daughter's wall.

  49. A selection from my toy making days. I used to see yellow, my hair would be yellow, my clothes everything was yellow when I made the ducks. Besides the ull alongs like in the photo I used to make flappers that had a handle that you'd push and their feet, made out of vinyl would flap on the ground. I'd do dozens at a time as I just couldn't keep up with them. From memory they sold for about $20 each. All the googly eyes are recessed and superglued in place
