  2. Father's day will be upon us soon so here's a nice sentimental sign. Nothing says Father's day like a fist bump. I cut the sign from variegated wood I constructed from assorted scrap pieces I had lying around. The base is from sapele wood and it is layered on top of a piece of pine. Simple and direct. The pattern is free on my FREE PATTERN PAGE.

    21st Keys

Not sure if people still have big twenty first birthday parties and get presented with keys. The 1st one I made for my daughter, before I new about purchasing small photo frames. It opens for signatures. The second for my Cousin's Son (She placed photos in it before presenting it on the night I think Christine's is pine and merranti and the other is pine and jarrah with his name in Sandalwood.

  5. Yesterday during a Google search I came across a link to a document dealing with all types of saws, Miter, Table, Circular, Band, Jig, Rotarazer, and most importantly Scroll. It also does Shop Vacs. It even has 31 easy woodworking plans for beginners. Copy and paste the following: https://perfectcutsandmiters.com Bob

    THANK YOU!

Rather than replying individually, I want to take this time to say "THANK YOU!" to all of you who have wished me a Happy Birthday. It truly makes me feel special. You have no idea how much I appreciate the "family" here on Scroll Saw Village. Thanks for your friendship one and all.

Now excuse the poor quality video.. first video I've done and I was trying to do everything with one hand.. LOL https://www.kevskrafts.com/post/511661656292/how-to-make-homemade-wood-finish-using

    Cuts in a pattern

I dont have my computer to check, but I think this might be a thing... I think if you import an image into inkscape and convert it to vector it will break the image into a bunch of pieces. If you do that to a pattern all of the black cut away parts separate, if you select all of them it should tell you how many there are.

  10. Thanks, good info. Now I know you hate everything I have ever posted!! Yes, I do need to go to HF and get some of the brushes. I use to have a bunch and used them all up. The come in handy for many things.

  11. I would question their choice of "Top 5 Scrolls Saws" -- 1. Dewalt DW788 2. WEN 3920 3. Dremel MS20-01 4. Shop Fox W1713 5. Delta Power Tools 40-694 I think I would only rate the DW-788 in a "Top Choice" list. There was no mention of the Excaliburs, Jets, Hawks, or Hegners. Maybe they were going by the most sold saws.

  14. C:\Windows\fonts is the folder that fonts typically install in. Just back that folder up. Or download the font, cut/paste it to an off-computer folder, and click to install it from there. It'll still install to C:\Windows\fonts, but the installer is on an external drive. Something happens to your computer....just reinstall all of em. May take some time, but it'll take a lot less than re-downloading. I also created a Word doc with every font I've downloaded. I put the name of the font, then the alphabet (upper/lower cases) and numbers. I highlight the sample row and change its font to the one on display. So if I'm looking for a cursive font, I just scroll down until I find one or two, then play around in Inkscape with several different fonts to see which works the best. Sometimes, if I like a font overall but like a letter in another font, I'll switch the font of just the one letter.

  15. Baby oil is nothing more than mineral oil..with the signature baby smell added... IF you like that smell.. As for selling the products with the scent added.. that would probably be a turn off to customers and some people are very sensitive to some smell.. The pellet beeswax seemed to melt much faster than the block type I had been using... The wax does have a nice smell to it.. This wax has a yellow tint to it and the mix is sort of yellow colored.. I'm wondering what effect this might have on my projects.. as the block wax was a clear color and didn't have as nice a smell to it..but it's all I've used in the past.. This stuff last quite a long time.. that block I bought was a 5lb block that i bought maybe 5-6 years ago.. I normally make this about 2-3 times a year now.. when i first started was only about once a year or close to that.. I'll try to do another short video on how I apply it and the process of heating it to melt into the wood pores etc.. also the next video will show the consistency of the wax mix after it sets up..

  17. Create a 'double boiler'. Put water in a pan and put another pan, metal bowl over that pan. The heated water will heat the pan. Don't have to boil the water, just simmer. You can control the heat by putting the bowl on and off the pan. This cooking technique is used for melting chocolate, cooking eggs, and other recipes that more heat control is needed. You will separate the mixture from the flame and have more control over it. Beeswax; Beeswax has a relatively low melting point range of 62 to 64 °C (144 to 147 °F). If beeswax is heated above 85 °C (185 °F) discoloration occurs. The flash point of beeswax is 204.4 °C (400 °F). Your safe in the 150 F range, since beeswax will flash/ burn at 204, so you have another 50-degree range for it to burn. Looking at the melting point, it's just melting at 147, so you have to get close to 150 to get it to melt. Watch the flame, if you do it often, get a hotplate, which can be cheap and won't have a flame to ignite the mixture. https://www.amazon.com/Techwood-Portable-Single-Burner-Infrared/dp/B07H9PTSW8/ref=sr_1_4?ascsubtag=1ba00-01000-org00-win10-dsk00-nomod-us000-gatwy-feature-SEARC&keywords=electric+hotplate&qid=1555114160&s=gateway&sr=8-4 Nice first video. Here's a sign honoring this perilous duty. I cut mine from maple and set it on an improvised base from the scrap of the blank. 20. I made this welcome sign for my mother recently. I made her a fall one and she hinted about needing one for spring. I found an image on the internet that I used to draw the bird and branch, then added the words below. I did put it on a backer, but couldn't find that photo. Mom loved it, and what could be better than that.

Saw @meflick's post on her little guitar pick boxes and decided to make on for my guitar playing son. Nice easy way to use up some little pieces of wood. The top and bottom are Black Limba wood, I do not know what the middle is.

    Cuts in a pattern

When doing large fretwork type portraits.. I use tally marks sometimes.. most times I don't care.. but I've had a lot of customers ask.. "dang how many holes you have to drill and cut to make that? " Kinda nice to know or at least have a rough idea.. I've been known to just make up a wild number to see the look on their faces too, LOL.. But anyway.. sometimes I use the tally marks and make a mark every either 10 or 20 -25 holes I drill.. I don't drill all the holes at once in those big detailed fret pieces.. otherwise I'll never get up to move around.. sometimes just getting up and walking across the shop to the drill will keep me from getting too stiff just sitting there. LOL

  33. I've only been in trouble with the wife two times about using the stove and oven.. first time was I had some wheels I just painted and I wanted to "bake" the paint.. oven seemed like a good idea.. however the smell in the house wasn't too pleasing.. this was back in my younger... maybe not so smart days.. and pretty newly married The second time wasn't all that long ago and she actually encouraged me to try it.. I made thermal modified lumber.. Took a 1 x 6 x 18 inch poplar board and put it in the oven on low heat ( around 200 - 250.. and left it in for a couple hours.. the poplar came out looking almost as dark as a lighter shade of Walnut.. works awesome.. just don't do the dumb thing i did and cut it to the exact size ... because who knew it'd shrink more in the oven, LOL I did get the pan at a garage sale that I use.. the cheese grader too.. and the thermometer is new but only specifically used for this.. That all said though.. it all washes off pretty good plus it is food grade mineral oil and natural beeswax so.. most likely not something that'd be harmful.. She has actually used her stove to make it for me during a real busy time a couple years ago.. so she better not say anything to me about making it myself... and yes.. I'd still say " okay sorry dear, yes dear... LOL

    Baltic Birch Ply

A friend of mine only gets good Baltic Birch plywood at Johnson's Workbench and it's great. He uses 1/8", and 1/4" with his laser. He has tried other so called birch plywood from the big box stores with poor results. I told him about the Baltic Birch plywood I got at Johnson's Workbench and he only goes there to get it now. The best part of the deal I go with him to get my Birch plywood and we get the quantity discount and he drives his truck. So I save on the plywood and the trip. I am glad I don't live as close as Kevin because I would spend too much money on wood at Johnson's Workbench.

  40. I use a program called Nexusfont. You can select all fonts and copy to a backup folder. I then copy that folder to a thumb drive. Nexusfont will install if you want from that folder The folder also gets backed up on my Western Digital My Drive that I run on a weekly basis. Nexusfont is a really great free program. I have separate collections with my scrollable fonts, stencil, clipart and script font. This way when looking for a font it is easy to find. I open along side Inkscape and it is much easier to see what the word looks like that the text feature in Inkscape. Free at http://www.xiles.net/

  41. As you may or may not know, from some of my previous posts, I have a grandson who is a captain in the Army Special Forces. I ran across this pattern on Sue Mey's site and just had to buy it and make it for him. It is made from BB Ply and it approx. 11 inches. I know he will like it and I will be able to give it to him personally because I will be seeing him at the wedding we are going to in Portland, at the end of May. Dick heppnerguy

    Baltic Birch Ply

I've never seen " real " Baltic Birch ply at the big box stores.. I know people claim they have it and maybe they do.. my local Lowes and like stores do not have it.. and many times people confuse BB plywood with regular plywood... and I'm betting that's what you have.. Even the specialty lumber store I get my BB ply from... depending on the worker pulling the stock for me, they many times get it confused with plain old plywood even though the order says BB ply and also says the oddball size.. because the real deal to my knowledge only comes in 5 x 5 foot squares.. Not 4 x ? which when you say 2 x 4.. that 4 ques me in that you have just birch plywood.. and not the real deal..

See, those Aussies and there ways. This is a great tradition I had not heard of before. I agree in America they go drink. My granddaughter sent us a picture of her having "her first drink" when she turned 21. I said ya, right, aren't you the granddaughter that bragged to me once that she had 5 different fake IDs!... She is always trying to shock us, by we know she is a great girl.

    Ordered New Banner

Hey Marg, I show a Unicorn on the front banner on my table, and up above I show a Dachshund and a Sea Turtle. I chose not to go with one of my local designs since I do shows all over the area and depending on which beach town I'm in dictates what I display. But, you have a good idea and I will think about having multiple banners in place of the Unicorn to put up based on the beach town I'm in... That could definitely grab people's attention.

    More Tissue boxes

G'day all, The 1st 4 of a new batch of tissue boxes. These I finished with the Automotive clear. I don't think I have posted these particular patterns before, if so I apologise. I have included 2 face on shots as they show the pattern clearly, take with my phone. I'm a bit of a novice taking photos with a phone (They should not be able to do that)" The individual ones I used my camera. I forgot to tell the timbers. The white is Radiata Pine and the red is Marri. It's a bastard for splinters but the look makes it worthwhile. http://www.fpc.wa.gov.au/about-us/publications/species/marri Cheers

  49. My wife likes Leopards.. so I made her this Leopard for our anniversary a few years ago.. wrote a little love note on the back. hangs in our bedroom.. Then also.. My mother passed away when I was like 10 years old from cancer.. and she collected owls.. anything owl she loved it.. so in memory of her I made these owls.. Before my daughter knew about my mothers liking owls she took a liking to them too.. so I've made these and they hang in our house as well.. The wolf picture is something I made for my daughters 4th grade class..to auction off as a fund raiser to take a class trip to Mackinac Island.. it was the last year the school was taking that trip due to cuts and funding for class trips and without the fund raisers they wasn't going to go.. fortunately they did raise enough to take the trip.. This was a while ago because my daughter is in the second year of college now, LOL
