I made this for a co worker. Her daughter does gymnastics and needed something to hang her medals on. It is a Steve Good pattern. Thank you for looking. Mimi

    Thin Wood Source

In another topic a while back there was talk about getting thin boards by mail order.. not sure if that was here in the village or another site.. Anyway, I used to do some business with this eBay seller.. I just was going through my eBay saved sellers list and ran across this seller... Haven't bought from them in several years.. but I see they still are selling or at least listing wood on there.. Always had good results with them back in the day... not sure how they are these days.. https://www.ebay.com/sch/deer56hunter/m.html?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEFSXS%3AMESOI&_trksid=p2053788.m1543.l2654

  5. I remember a time several years ago I dreaded cutting these type of patterns where there is a lot of sharp corners.. like grass and trees etc.. I think I've improved a great deal over the last 5-6 years.. BTW, Why does everyone that videos themselves cutting not show the "actual cutting view " It's a little difficult but I put my phone right on top of my Magnifier light and tape around the edges of the magnifier so the phone can't slide off.. Yeah then the phone is in my way of actually seeing what I'm doing.. but who needs to see what they're cutting anyway, I've cut this one so many times I'm not really sure why I put a pattern on it..

    36 Dusenberg

I've got this thing with '30's cars. Found a picture of a 1936 Duesenberg. Love those big Drum Headlights, side exhaust pipes and grill. As usual, it took a whole lot longer to do the design (pixel Pacman) than the actual cut. I had to go big because of the grill. 19 x 12. I think I have the grill technique down. I score all the lines with a straight edge and a razor then stop the cut just below the top of the individual grills then tape everything down for support and then go back and cut out the rest. It made me nervous but it worked. Sequencing the cuts are important because there are a lot of large floppy pieces. Material was 1/8" BB with 1/4" backer. Another box may be next.

  9. I skip watching others scroll. They do that alot on FB too. We develop our own style. Just like I would never turn the grain of the wood that way. I would always have it the other way. Just a matter of choice. But the golden rule is the longest size gets the grain running with it. It is an eye thing. Many people just go by the amount of wood they have but little things like that I notice.

  10. I use to point those grass blades but have long since stopped doing that I now spin on the dime and they actually look better with a slight round edge. I sometimes spin inside corners too but probably do a 2 step cut inside if it really needs to be sharp.

  11. Howdy all. I just wanted to let you know we added a new Leaderboards feature. You can find this under the Community Tab (also at the bottom of the forum in the menu) Each day, the software tallies the posts and reactions from our members. The leaderboard will show which member got the most reputation/reactions to their posts during a 30 day period and awards them top ranks. You can change the period of time in the upper right corner to see who has the most for the day, week, year, all time, etc. Popular posts - This looks at content that has the most reactions in a particular thread. This is a really cool way to find the most interesting content during that time period. That way, you don't miss the good stuff. Past Leaders tab - That shows which members got the most reactions to their posts each day. Members who get top ranks each day get an award shown on their profile page. Top Members tab - This shows which members rank in the top for a specific category. By default, it's post count and reputation level. But you can sort it by who has the most images, etc. Under each of these tabs, you can follow a member and get notified when they publish something. You can also take a closer look at the stuff they have posted in the past. I think this is a really neat feature. Try not to think of it as a contest. Instead, think of it as a fun way to recognize some of our fellow members who put a lot of effort into SSV by providing great feedback and advice. I find the most valuable part is the Popular Content section. That's super cool.

  12. I think you are doing something wrong. When I cut there are always two lines after the blade goes around. Tom

  15. Nice little shop. When my wife and I move, I want a little shop away from the house. I don't need big, no more big project for me. It is surprising what a person can do in a small shop. Mine is what was to be a half of a small 2 car garage. Maybe 17' x 12". I've build a 15" kayak, and a 12" hull for a sail boat in it. You just have to stay pretty skinny.

  17. @stoney, did the modifications to his Hegner so the arm would lift heigher. You can read his post on it here: I took the loc-line nozzle off the bottom suction on my and just used a straight piece of 1" pvc. It reduced the noise a Db or two. Not much. I think the bigger the opening at the end the less noise, but not sure how you would direct the suction as well to where you want it. I try to remember to put on ear protection.... that helps. But the noise is the biggest draw back of this type of dust collection. I don't really mind wearing ear protection. It kinda isolates me and reduces other distractions.....

  18. @octoolguy and others were interested in knowing more about my dust extraction system which is currently on my Hegner saw. The system could no doubt be adapted for use with other saws and I may even make further improvements over time. It is based on researched designs already posted on these forums and elsewhere, but I believe I have made an improvement which allows the upper extraction pipe to be temporarily hinged out of the way for easier blade feed when making internal cuts. Rather than post a long string of photos and text, I have incorporated the information in a single pdf, which a), I hope you are able to download and read, and b), that I'm able to attach it to this post. David Edit: the pdf link is at the bottom of this post. Also, I've just noticed in the pdf that the term 'Nyloc nuts' has been changed to 'Nylon nuts' (curse of auto-correct). Please read as Nyloc nuts (the metal nuts with a nylon insert to prevent them readily working loose. I originally tried wing nuts to attach/tighten the linkage arms, but found they quickly worked loose whenever the linkage was moved. hegner-dust-extraction.pdf

Looks like it was nice trip. My daughter lives in Fayetteville I don’t get down to see her very often. Last summer we went to Pigeon Forge great views of the Mountains. She did live in Bell Buckle and on a ridge outside of Mulberry. The ice cream shop in Bell Buckle was worth the trip. Glad to see you a lot of fun traveling around the state.

  30. The latest talk is about the end of the popular TV series "Game of Thrones" so I thought it fitting to do a sign commemorating the show. I cut mine from a blank of various wood scraps I put together, therefore you'll notice different colored woods throughout. The starkness of the series impressed me the most, so I made the base a combination of radical angles and levels. Hope you enjoy working with this pattern. Available for free on my FREE PATTERN page. Also available is my attempt a humor with the title.

  31. Thank you for showing me this –much more elegant than my 'bundle of tubes' version. Do you find that the addition changes/improves the 'jet engine' noise which the unmodified Locline nozzles seem to produce when hooked up to a vacuum? I volunteer at a charity shop, and am always on the lookout for potentially useful bits and pieces which I recycle from any donated but broken items. I made a repair to our washing machine with nothing more than a recycled piece of plastic a few weeks ago.

  33. I think this forum fills the void. Tons of info, education resources, world wide participation, lists clubs and organizations, product reviews, vendor listings, wonderful patterns, the list goes on. And all for free unless one chooses to donate in some fashion. Really, what more could one offer?

  34. Okay now they have gone too far. I went back to the site, said it was updated April 16th, 2019 and the title is: "Best Scroll Saw Reviews — 2019’s Absolute BEST Scroll Saws" They review the same saws???? Give me a break!!! Could not help myself I had to contact them and suggested they change their title to something like "BEST Entry Level Scroll Saws" or something. Not sure DeWalt or the Delta are necessarily entry level.

  35. You answered a question I always wondered about.. and that is what way to wrap the bubble wrap.. I've been doing it all wrong for the last 6 years, LOL I did know that the larger bubble wrap was for filling more than protection.. I still use it kinda as a protection but my clocks I wrap about 5 times around.. most clocks are 10 inch long and 5-6 inch tall I package then in the free 12 x 12 x 8 priority boxes but I typically cut the box down to more like 5-6 in high instead of 8.. then I fill in with packing peanuts.. Never had any issues with them.. Clocks are priority mail because of free shipping insurance and boxes.. so the only thing out of my pocket is the packing.. The cost range is $7- 10.50.. with average is mostly $8.50.. sometimes I make a buck on shipping and sometimes I loose a bit.. The ones I always thought I'd have issue with is the delicate Christmas ornaments.. but I pack those in the little jewelry gift boxes that have cotton in them.. then i wrap the box with 2 sheets of the 3/16 bubble wrap by the time you fold that bubble wrap around the box there is about 2-3 inch of padding around the box.. Then i just mail it in a 9 x 6 bubble mailer.. first class mail usually cost $2.70 ish

  36. Most of what Kevin says is great advice. However, as a former professional packaging supply & equipment salesman, I need to offer a correction and a suggestion. Large bubble, 1/2", is not designed for protection, but is designed to be used as void fill. Small bubble, 3/16", is what you want to use to wrap items for protection, as that is what it was designed to do. Always wrap items with the bubble out, as bubble can have an abrasive effect on finished items. Thicker foam, 1/8"-1/4" is a good alternative for bubble, but more expensive. Bubble and foam are both sold at Home Depot for a reasonable price in lesser quantities. For larger void fill requirements, I have found empty.5 liter, or 16.9oz water bottles with the cap firmly tightened, a great option. They are strong, lightweight, and large enough to fill bigger spaces, and if you loosen the cap, you can slightly crush them to fit odd shapes, tightening the cap again after forming them. I shipped a laptop to a former employer using water bottles, and they performed well.

Tennessee is mine and my wife favorite state that we've been to so far.. Visited Pigeon Forge years ago and the smoky mountains etc back maybe 8-10 years ago.. then about 4 years ago went and stayed in a cabin at Dale Hollow.. Our most memorable time on that last trip was going to Cummins State Park and hiking back to the big water falls..

  46. Katie - that looks great an I can see why your Mom loved it. You better get to work on the summer and fall ones now so you are ready and can give them to her without her "hinting" - or wait for the hint and then she will think you are really fast!

  47. I made this welcome sign for my mother recently. I made her a fall one and she hinted about needing one for spring. I found an image on the internet that I used to draw the bird and branch, then added the words below. I did put it on a backer, but couldn't find that photo. Mom loved it, and what could be better than that.
