Three Dragons cut from Poplar, Pine and a wood of unknown origin.....the one with the green backer is cut from pine and all were cut using Pegas #3 MG blades...Min Wax clear stain and spray poly finish..I have one more Fiona pattern of a Bee on comb that i am finishing up.....I have been working on her patterns for the last few weeks...Thanks for looking...Steve. Ps. i should mention all three are different sizes...did that on a whim and to fit the available wood.

  3. While recovering from Torn Rotator Cuff surgery, I made this for my son's electronic devices. Mostly done with just my left hand and a little help from him. Comments as always. Good to be out in the garage again after so long!!

  4. I remember a time several years ago I dreaded cutting these type of patterns where there is a lot of sharp corners.. like grass and trees etc.. I think I've improved a great deal over the last 5-6 years.. BTW, Why does everyone that videos themselves cutting not show the "actual cutting view " It's a little difficult but I put my phone right on top of my Magnifier light and tape around the edges of the magnifier so the phone can't slide off.. Yeah then the phone is in my way of actually seeing what I'm doing.. but who needs to see what they're cutting anyway, I've cut this one so many times I'm not really sure why I put a pattern on it..

  6. Like I said before, I’ve cut this one a lot. This picture I laid out this mornings cutting. I put about 3.5 hours on the Excalibur this morning and this picture is a direct result. Yeah 4 of the same one.

  7. Although I've had my saw a long time, I have done very little cutting so far, so videos are very helpful to me (particularly the way you have shot yours, so that people are seeing pretty much your own view of the workpiece whilst cutting). You seem to have hardly any dust visible. Is this all being drawn through the small holes in the table, or do you have a separate blower or extraction tubing as well, which is out of view in the video? Re. viewing videos (presumably through the forum's native player), I seem to get just an occasional image flicker of usually the first frame only. However, if I change my browser from Safari to Chrome (both on Apple Mac), the videos play fine. So my tip for anyone having viewing issues is to try with a different browser if possible.

  8. Do you people actually see a video or is this one of those stories like the King and no clothes.....?

  9. Hi everyone, I've always enjoyed making things, but although I purchased a scrollsaw many years ago, I haven't really had the opportunity to 'get into it', so sadly it had been collecting dust in a lonely corner. Recently, after being out of work for some time, and of an age where I have time to enjoy hobbies and interests, I decided to dedicate a suitable space in my garage and have spent some time setting up the old Hegner with the view to learning, making and sharing what little knowledge and experiences I have along the way. 12. I change the grain direction on projects according to the project at hand.. something I have noticed is.. what I see in the wood grain is not seen by others.. and sometimes it just takes some imagination to understand what the artist is seeing or has seen in a project.. I very seldom just throw the patterns on the wood just to get more pieces from that board.. However... I also don't just throw away a board because it's grain is running the wrong direction either.. though I try to make every piece have a meaningful look.. it isn't always possible unless I'm willing to burn a wheel barrel full of usable wood every month because the grain doesn't go with the piece exactly as I think it should.. 99% of the customers don't care what way the grain goes.. they're buying the cut design.. not the artistic grain texture.. Every piece I make has some sort of meaningful grain design that I try to incorporate in it.. when I ask all my friends and family what they see.. they just see the design.. until I tell them what I see.. These sample pieces below.. I see the sun shining in the sky and the farm shadowed by the clouds.. The same thing with the bridge.. and the next one was a booboo as I wanted the star lit with the lighter color.. but it still works as the clock area can be considered the moon shining bright.. But then who the heck sees that besides me that places those patterns there that way.. so anyway.. I just wanted to clarify why I do things a certain way.. if we all did the same thing the same way etc it'd be a pretty boring world wouldn't it.. If people don't want to see the video.. I can stop posting them here.. just ask.. you're not hurting my feelings.. as for the FB posting.. they all seem to like it.. so I do it.. many newbies like to see the videos and the different methods of doing things.. I'd much rather watch someone do something rather than read about it.. The video I posted on FB has had 1500+ viewers in a 24 hour period.. so someone is watching them.. LOL

Very nicely done, I also have the pattern not sure when I will cut it, and a good way to use scraps.

  16. Nice work Steve, as usual for you. Be neat is Ms Kingdon would make a pattern of one of her real detailed stacked pictures, like the "Hare In the Brambles" or "Sea of Storms"

    Hello again

It has been a while since I have posted on here. Have been lurking I guess and see a lot of names I recognize. Been dealing with cancer surgery, chemo, radiation and all the other @#$ that goes with it. Have ordered some wood so when it gets here I hope to fire up the old hegner and do something. Larry

  19. Sure you can double stick tape and you can make any size you want. What I do when routing with it is to use scraps of the same thickness as the piece being drilled or routed and place along side the original piece so it does not tip.

  20. You watch for it then, but it can happen when half the unit is hanging over the edge of a piece and you are pushing down with both hands. If you have holes that need to be drilled close to the edge. That thing is plastic and does not travel all that smooth. At least mine does not. To do it many times a drill press is more accurate in my eyes.

  23. I had to give up the kayak. My back just could not take the sitting the way you have to sit in a kayak. But it was worth the build. I enjoyed it a lot. The 12 sail boat hull I still have. Needs one more sanding and then paint. Only thing left to build it the mast, boom and sail. I started it over 10 years ago,,,,, think I will ever finish?

  27. Looks like a nice portable unit to drill with. I am more interested in the chuck you purchased to use with it. Have you had a chance to use it and how is the accuracy?
    1 point
  28. you have to be careful not to tip when close to edges. I use that for routing more than anything else. Good luck with it.

  29. I use to point those grass blades but have long since stopped doing that I now spin on the dime and they actually look better with a slight round edge. I sometimes spin inside corners too but probably do a 2 step cut inside if it really needs to be sharp.

  30. Probably can't see it because it's a Facebook video from my FB page.. I'm uploading it to my Youtube channel right now for those that can't see the FB videos.. I'll link that video here once it's up on Youtube..

  39. Received the WEN and the plunge router attachment this morning.. mounted the WEN into the router and everything seems to work like it should.. just gotta wait for the mini drill chuck so I can use it.. Just playing around with it.. I think this is going to be an awesome setup.. I'm sure it'll take some time to get used to lining up the drill bit to the lines.. I'll do drilling on bigger fret cutouts until I get used to lining up etc for the small veining cuts etc..

  40. That's what I was going to buy late fall early winter last year.. they've been out of stock for ever.. and the price is about double the price of what this Dremel set up is costing me..

Tennessee is mine and my wife favorite state that we've been to so far.. Visited Pigeon Forge years ago and the smoky mountains etc back maybe 8-10 years ago.. then about 4 years ago went and stayed in a cabin at Dale Hollow.. Our most memorable time on that last trip was going to Cummins State Park and hiking back to the big water falls..

    21st Keys

I still have my keys from when I turned 21 and I gave my daughters keys for their 21st's even though 18 was the new 21. I love your idea of putting information on the inside to let the recipient know what happened the year they were born. Great work John. Marg
