  2. So I broke down and bought this brand new King 21" scroll saw today. For the past few years I've had a Delta 40-694 of which I've felt was a very good saw. The Delta still runs just fine, however it has a lot of hours on it and lately I couldn't help but worry that it might break and I'd be without a saw. So I started researching new saws and saving up some money. I decided on the King for a couple simple reasons. Probably the biggest of which is the WoodCraft store in Orlando had one in store that I was able to go in and look at and get a feel for. It's a pricey investment, however I'm hoping it's one that lasts me a very long time, many cutting hours and many wonderful projects. I've spent about 3 hours cutting on it so far and I have to say I'm very impressed. There is almost no vibration and it runs so quietly even compared to my Delta which I've never thought to be a noisy saw. The top blade clamp, while not all that different from the Delta, has taken me a bit of getting used to, but I think I'm getting there. So far I'm very happy with this purchase.

  4. Figured it’s a nice day and about time to start setting up my CNC . Gotta wait for a new work table to come in the mail that I just ordered. Was going to build one but read these are fussy about having a good flat solid surface to set on. Table is 10 days out so now back to waiting lol.

  5. The golf clock and tissue box are patterns from Sue May, I got a request for another BBQ tray. I used wood that I had around, the client was happy so I guess that is the main thing. My wife painted the background for the clock.

    Optical Illusion

Put together this optical illusion into wood. I cut mine from pine and used the cutoff for a base. When you first look at it you see a penguin, but look again and it Abe Lincoln. If you'd like the pattern for this it is free on my FREE PATTERN page

    First Event of 2019

Had my first event, was supposed to be 2 days (Friday and Saturday) but a threat of storms and wind Friday caused me to err on the side of caution and I didn't attend day 1. I arrived bright and early this morning for day 2 and set up. Beautiful weather, huge crowd but mostly just lookers. Had a good day selling 56 puzzles in just 6 hours. I had a goal of 100 for the 2 days, so I'm happy with 56 for 1 day. My biggest 1 day event is next Saturday. Sold 95 each of the last 2 years so of course that's the goal for this year. EDIT - The last 2 years at my best 1 day event I was still selling the raw kids puzzles at half the price of my signature puzzles. Now that I don't sell them, I need to sell 80 signature puzzles this year to hit the same amount of $$$ as the past 2 years at the upcoming event. And the fun begins! Iggy

  11. I modified one of Steve Goods patterns to make this. I am participating in the Denton Texas Art and Jazz Festival the end of the month. Getting kinda nervous about it. It is a two and a half day event with attendance around 200,000 people. Sure hope the weather is good because I have been working the past three months in preparation for it. First time for something this big for me. Having a tough time knowing what to price this piece. I'm not really anxious to sell it. I doubt if many people will appreciate the time that went into it. Made of walnut, maple and cedar.

  12. I have an LED magnifying light with a 5 diopter lens. I only use the light for illumination. I scroll using a magnifying glasses. I scroll with my nose rally close to the table and hunched over uncomfortably. I was hoping the magnifier lamp would work for me but it is too powerful. The magnifier needs to almost touch the table to be in focus. I found an LED magnifier with a 1.25 diopter lens for $25 on ebay. That's really cheap so I won't know how good it is until I get it this coming week. Hopefully it will permit me to sit upright and still view the blade and pattern well. There really is no question here except I'm wondering if other scrollers use a low diopter LED lamp. I have found them hard to find. The photo shows how close 5 diopters need to be to the table to be in focus.

  13. You'll have fun with it. I have an XCarve and really like it. It's a lot of fun to mix woodwoking and computers. One thing I have found, it isn't fast by any means. But on the plus side, it can be working while you're working on other things. It's great for v-carving signs, which will help your business a lot (they're great sellers). It's also really great for making templates for larger woodworking projects. I even use it for making dados and rabits when I'm too lazy to do it the proper way....it takes a lot more time, but super accurate.

    Circle cutting jig

Same thought I had, octagonal, shaped like the state, etc Might be a lot easier to just buy precut BB circles from woodpeckers on amazon https://www.amazon.com/Circle-Cutouts-Unfinished-Crafting-Circles/dp/B07FNYP24G/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=round+wood+blanks&qid=1555850310&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1 Of course then you don't get to make the jig, so I guess it is a toss up

  19. What do you need a spring for?? Do not over think it. A finish nail as I said will give you a dimple to pivot on. A cork bottom will work to hide it if you are in need to hide it. or you can celebrate the hole and accent with a dowel of choice. If you want to save the work making the circle cutter you can use a holesaw and a drill press and tune the pilot bit where it just penetrates the wood but does not go all the way through. You can do this on a router table and have no holes and use a pattern flush trimming bit with a bearing as a guide. Double stick tape to a pattern and you are good to go. You can use a disc sander with a jig to hold the piece as you rotate it. In the woodworking world there are many ways to do things. You can use a tablesaw and make circles. To me unless you are making a ton of these coasters free hand on the scrollsaw is the way to go.

    Inlaid Trinket Box

Looks great Dave. I have no idea on pricing, but, if you really don’t want to sell it, set what you consider a really high price for it so it probably won’t sell, BUT if it does, you will know someone appreciated your work and was willing to compensate you for it by paying that price. Win-Win.

  26. I use these. I love them and they work well. However I still need to be to close to the table. I'm hoping to be able to sit back and scroll. These are the ones I use. In fact I have four pair. I love them for a lot of things.

  27. You are missing the point here Jim. I have a lot of scraps that I want to make use of. And each basket that I make generates 16 more of them. I'm thinking that I can offer the basket and a matching set of coasters.

Wow. Dave, you really took that pattern to the max. I love it when I see a pattern somewhere and then see someone up it by several points, like you did here. You sure have a knack for making a rather OK looking piece and turning it into a master piece Dick heppnerguy

  48. A selection from my toy making days. I used to see yellow, my hair would be yellow, my clothes everything was yellow when I made the ducks. Besides the ull alongs like in the photo I used to make flappers that had a handle that you'd push and their feet, made out of vinyl would flap on the ground. I'd do dozens at a time as I just couldn't keep up with them. From memory they sold for about $20 each. All the googly eyes are recessed and superglued in place
