    Couple Of New Clocks..

Did a lot of cutting this week out in the shop trying to restock sold out inventory, but... always trying to ad some new inventory as well so I made these new ones too.. The Camaro was a custom order.. but I don't really like the design.. It looked great on paper.. but not so much in the wood..Anyone else ever find that to be true sometimes?

  2. You might need to build a box to put it in and sound proof it and the dust collection attached to spindle which is what I did I also connected a camera to watch on my phone when I go in for tea I have my google home connected to my workshop to cut the power should I need too. Have fun and never give up. Roly

    7- 1/4" Miter Saw

I know it's blasphemous to try and talk someone out of buying a new tool, but I think it's likely that you would not be satisfied with the brands you mentioned. One of the things about picture framing is that the miters have to be very accurate. I have my doubts that any of those saw brands will produce the consistent accuracy required for picture framing. My son-in-law had a Kobalt. It was OK for rough cutting 2x4's, but I wouldn't want to use it for any precision work. I have a 10" DeWalt CMS. It does pretty well, but that's not what you want. If you have a table saw, I would suggest building a miter sled for it, instead.

  5. This little sign offers a different twist on the Communion theme. It show a little boy and girl in deep prayer under God' natural canopy, the tree. And a nice bower with crosses celebrate the First Communion. The sign is customizable if you want to add a date or name(s) you can cut them out in the tree area. If you don't know how to modify a pattern you can use a stencil with pencil to add this detail on the patter. I cut mine from a nice piece of cherry wood and mounted it on a stressed improvised cut of Lati wood, a rather beautifully grained wood. If you can find this in your area, you might want to try it for some projects. Most of my customers fell in love with its qualities the first time they was it. The free pattern is available for download on my FREE PATTERNS page linked from the Index page on my website.

Leave it the way it is and let everybody study it to read it. They'll all think it was meant to be that way. I think it looks cool.

  7. Well the magnification dilemma ended this morning. My $25 1.25X mag light arrived this morning. I was not expecting much and was very pleasantly surprised. The lamp is very well constructed although the lid reminds me pf a toilet cover. It dropped into the old mounting and was plugged in. It is LED and the light appears a little more bluish than the the other lamp bit is pleasant. The focal length is ideal. I now sit upright which is a delight. The glass optic is 5" diameter and the focus is very crisp. I did find that it was much sharper when I did not wear my reading glasses. Also, when wearing magnifiers It was necessary to look over or under them when looking at something else. This gives me complete vision freedom. My back appreciates it.

    Alleluia banner

The pastor at our church asked me if I could design an Alleluia banner for our Easter service. This is what I came up with. I designed the pattern using Inkscape and cut it on my DeWalt scroll saw. It measures 19" x 19" and was cut from 1/4" oak plywood. I put a 1/4" birch backer behind it that I painted black. It was a hit when we unveiled it Sunday morning!

  9. My wife told me about 2-3 weeks ago that they was going to be throwing a baby shower for a co-worker.. and that she wanted me to make something as a gift.. No problem..just let me know what and make sure to give me a few days.. This Monday she reminded me but didn't know what she wanted me to make.. then she went out and dug through my stuff to see if I might already have something made up.. which i do have a few things.. but nothing she wanted.. Last night laying in bed.. she said.. Oh.. the baby shower is tomorrow after work.. can you make one of the angels like you made for so and so two years ago? LOL Not to mention I had two orders that had to get done and in the mail today... Anyway.. I got it done and was able to deliver it to her work early this afternoon.. I always talk about how bad I hate those last minute people that order today thinking they can get it in the mail over night... But.. gotta say.. I love this customer.. Sue Mey Pattern.. Cut from Maple with a Oak and Mahogany base..

I may have to bother Bob again for a header pattern. The duplicates (Tennessee and Michigan) are for my niece and nephew. The California is for my son.

  12. Kevin is right, the CNC creates a much bigger mess then any scroll saw. Fortunately, like Rolf - hubby has a central vac in the workshop that all of the equipment gets added to. Then we have a "dust boot" that we use with the CNC to help control most of the dust and get it into the central vac system. Still, you get more dust then the scroll saw probably!
    2 points
  13. Kevin you have more willpower than I do. there is no way you could keep me away from two new machines. Regarding dust, it is very easy to add a pickup brush that connects to a vacuum for the CNC. Dust is a problem for all of us my biggest concern has always been fire and of course my lungs. That is why I invested in a centralized dust collection system. Especially when I started getting serious about Intarsia as that is almost all dust from the sanding. My desktop computer upstairs gets loaded with a lot more household dust than the laptop I have in my workshop. With the laser you need to vent the fumes outdoors. The industrial laser I used at work to cut silicon generated a lot of ozone that our safety folks said needed to be vented.

    7- 1/4" Miter Saw

I'm looking for a 7-1/4" miter saw. I do not want a 10 or 12" saw. I don't want a sliding saw. I want a small simple saw that will allow me to just cut wood for picture framing. Is anyone using one and how do you like it? There are several on the market. A HF for $99 less 20%. Kobalt and Ryobi ar $129. Anyone use any of these? I had a 10" Ryobi a few years ago and gave it away as I was not using it. Now I need a small one.

  18. Hi everyone, I've always enjoyed making things, but although I purchased a scrollsaw many years ago, I haven't really had the opportunity to 'get into it', so sadly it had been collecting dust in a lonely corner. Recently, after being out of work for some time, and of an age where I have time to enjoy hobbies and interests, I decided to dedicate a suitable space in my garage and have spent some time setting up the old Hegner with the view to learning, making and sharing what little knowledge and experiences I have along the way. Some of the cutting I have done. Have been trying to stack cut with paper between. The paper is getting stuck as the glue softens when cutting. Have to spend time cleaning the paper off. Sometimes it comes away no problem. Other times, not so much. These are my own photos take at Lake of the Woods. 7x5 size 81 pieces. Photo glued to 1/4" ply, finished the back, light spray of finish over the photos. It takes about 2.5 hours to cut using the Niqua 2/0 puzzle blades.

    7- 1/4" Miter Saw

You can laugh but I use the Stanley unit John put a link to for a variety of miter jobs. I just cut miters for bead molding on a mirror project. (I hope to post some pics soon. Put the first coat of finish on this afternoon.) In particular when I'm working with small pieces of molding and baseboards and shoe molding. I use my Shopsmith for picture frames. That Japanese saw Jerry linked to looks very interesting. I don't think a 7 1/4" will save much space compared to a 10". If you have a table saw make a sled to cut your picture frame miters.

    7- 1/4" Miter Saw

Hi, Ray, I have the Chicago Electric 10" Compound Mitre saw from Harbor Freight and it is very accurate. I used it for a flag display case. It weighs in at about 32.56 pounds. I found this ad for a Ryobi 7 1/4" Compound saw for about $99 and it only weighs about 18.93 pounds per their specs. https://www.homedepot.com/p/RYOBI-9-Amp-7-1-4-in-Compound-Miter-Saw-with-Laser-TS1143L/205448390?cm_mmc=Shopping|B|Base|D25T|25-9_PORTABLE+POWER|NA|PLA|71700000034362724|58700003947733499|92700031998221369&msclkid=01654e8a273211f69fe71249766ed5b8&gclid=CMeH-oG17uECFeSCxQId8iAIzw&gclsrc=ds Good luck with your search and God Bless! 33. Yeah, my clock selling kinda started with their patterns too.. and.. many of the clocks I sell is their patterns.. I have nearly 130 clock patterns in the set I bought.. The set was supposedly their whole collection.. but I've been told it's not their whole collection but a good part of it.. I have all those basket patterns too.. plus some real intricate table top clocks.. and 3D portrait stuff.. collector plates about 100 or so of them.. LOL Lot and Lots of patterns.. many of them I want to cut.. but it's take a whole woods of trees to cut them all, LOL Best $50 I ever spent.. Not sure exactly how much the pattern set was really.. I know it was less than $100.. I almost didn't get it because they only gave a few samples of patterns.. but it was said it was the last chance before they closed up..

    7- 1/4" Miter Saw

I'm not doing production, and I love the feel of great hand tools, so I have been using this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L8SL43U/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It leaves an edge that needs no cleanup, and never tears out. For me, it works very well. Might be worth considering...

  36. No one sells all their patterns. He use to have a pattern club and those patterns never were included. The link above is for the new owners of their business. Anyone else selling their patterns is doing so illegally. Now maybe that pattern was in one of their books so you can look for those. Or write to them or call them and they maybe able to help locate it. Man I probably made 50% of their patterns over the years. They are what started it all for me. I remember when they first started up and they had a 4 page black and white catalog they sent out and it kept growing every year. I made my money basically cutting their patterns and selling the projects. All started with those fold up baskets. Made so many of them over the years. Still have a few left from back in the day. Refuse to sell them. Met them a few times at some scrollsaw picnics over the years. Wow brings back memories. Still make alot of their patterns.

    7- 1/4" Miter Saw

Well, I can't help with the 7-1/4 inch one.. I bought my Hitachi with laser beam about 15 years ago.. love that saw... thought I was going to have to buy a new one last summer as the power switch went out and it was a obsolete part.. happen to look up the part number and then somehow crossed it to a saw that is still using the same switch and ordered the switch.. back in business again LOL I bought mine as a refurb.. and got it here on this site.. have ordered my cordless drill and couple of palm sanders from them as well and all still going good.. Might want to take a look and see if they have anything you might be able to use.. didn't see that small of one.. but.. https://bigskytool.com/tools/saws/corded-tools-miter-saws.html

  40. My first lamp needed a bit of tape to keep it from flopping down. Was not a problem since I did not use the lens. This lamp has a lid that is much stiffer and works well. I put the lid down when not in use to keep off dust.
