My wife told me about 2-3 weeks ago that they was going to be throwing a baby shower for a co-worker.. and that she wanted me to make something as a gift.. No problem..just let me know what and make sure to give me a few days.. This Monday she reminded me but didn't know what she wanted me to make.. then she went out and dug through my stuff to see if I might already have something made up.. which i do have a few things.. but nothing she wanted.. Last night laying in bed.. she said.. Oh.. the baby shower is tomorrow after work.. can you make one of the angels like you made for so and so two years ago? LOL Not to mention I had two orders that had to get done and in the mail today... Anyway.. I got it done and was able to deliver it to her work early this afternoon.. I always talk about how bad I hate those last minute people that order today thinking they can get it in the mail over night... But.. gotta say.. I love this customer.. Sue Mey Pattern.. Cut from Maple with a Oak and Mahogany base..11 points

Some time ago I did a picture of two hawks from a pattern by @grampa. He did two patterns of hawks that I really liked. Tonight, after a long time I finished the second one. Thank you Grampa, for the excellent patterns. They were both a pleasure to cut, I only hope I did them justice. The one on the left is the first one I did, the right is the one I finished this evening. Both are cut in Basswood. I love cutting Basswood.10 points

Finished Cutting Bob's plaques!
Lucky2 and 4 others reacted to koehler788 for a topic
Here is everything i asked of Bob, now just to spray them when the stain dries. Coming up with ideas to hang them is becoming a problem...so many ideas. I have to consult with the wife. I may have to bother Bob again for a header pattern. The duplicates (Tennessee and Michigan) are for my niece and nephew. The California is for my son.5 points -

My worst one but an easy fix was a Christmas present for my husband, 10 Drs' Who. Taken hours to cut while he was at work, framed and wrapped ready for Christmas Day. Gave it to him and he loved it, then my daughter looked at it and burst out laughing, in my haste I had framed it backwards. Instead of saying Dr Who it said ohW rD, through the center. Marg4 points

Ever wanted to own a Ferrari? Well here's your chance to make your own and take it for a test drive on your desktop. This sign is in the shape of the 1984 model (who wouldn't want one of these?). I cut mine from Sapele and used the off cut along with a poplar blank to make a rambling base for it. Should make a nice conversation piece at your next car show. Free pattern:3 points

Some of the cutting I have done. Have been trying to stack cut with paper between. The paper is getting stuck as the glue softens when cutting. Have to spend time cleaning the paper off. Sometimes it comes away no problem. Other times, not so much. These are my own photos take at Lake of the Woods. 7x5 size 81 pieces. Photo glued to 1/4" ply, finished the back, light spray of finish over the photos. It takes about 2.5 hours to cut using the Niqua 2/0 puzzle blades.3 points -
Alleluia banner
barb.j.enders and 2 others reacted to sst17 for a topic
The pastor at our church asked me if I could design an Alleluia banner for our Easter service. This is what I came up with. I designed the pattern using Inkscape and cut it on my DeWalt scroll saw. It measures 19" x 19" and was cut from 1/4" oak plywood. I put a 1/4" birch backer behind it that I painted black. It was a hit when we unveiled it Sunday morning!3 points -

Did a lot of cutting this week out in the shop trying to restock sold out inventory, but... always trying to ad some new inventory as well so I made these new ones too.. The Camaro was a custom order.. but I don't really like the design.. It looked great on paper.. but not so much in the wood..Anyone else ever find that to be true sometimes?3 points

First Communion Pattern
amazingkevin and 2 others reacted to baggetta for a topic
This little sign offers a different twist on the Communion theme. It show a little boy and girl in deep prayer under God' natural canopy, the tree. And a nice bower with crosses celebrate the First Communion. The sign is customizable if you want to add a date or name(s) you can cut them out in the tree area. If you don't know how to modify a pattern you can use a stencil with pencil to add this detail on the patter. I cut mine from a nice piece of cherry wood and mounted it on a stressed improvised cut of Lati wood, a rather beautifully grained wood. If you can find this in your area, you might want to try it for some projects. Most of my customers fell in love with its qualities the first time they was it. The free pattern is available for download on my FREE PATTERNS page linked from the Index page on my website.3 points -

another challenge for me
Dave Monk and one other reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
Bernd, sent me another of his wonderful patterns and challenged me to try and cut it. Last time it was the B25 where I changed the font and heard so many people ask about it. This time it is the 1936 Duesenberg. What a beautiful car from the past. I was a little afraid the all the uprights of the grill were going to get broken because they are not supported by anything at the tops of them, but I managed to cut them without an incident. Overall I am pleased with the outcome and eventually I will make a frame for it and hang it on my computer room wall. I do not have the cutting skill of Bernd, as you all already are aware of, but for me, I came out 90 % happy with the end results. I cut it approx. 11 X 15 inches and changed to pattern to a lighter color so I could see my blade better, then when it was black and white. I did change the pattern a little but took on most of the challenges in it. I used a Pegas #3 and a #1spiral to cut this one. I have 4 days left before we have company from Germany and then we will be going on a hot air balloon ride the day she leaves and 3 days later we are off to Oregon for 2 1/2 months, so no shop time for most of the summer. One of the good parts about that trip is, I will have the opportunity to visit my good friend, Scrappile a couple of times. Dick heppnerguy2 points -

Well come on down to East TN - you can either visit Judy's shop or come visit mine. Visiting Judy's shop would be much more inspiring however - just seeing all of her Intarsia work would leave you in awe. Mine - not so much.2 points

Howdy All. I just upgraded SSV's software. As with any software upgrade, things will get a bit wonky as I set everything back. Let me know if something is broken or isn't behaving correctly. I know there's a number of things that I have on my list. I'm going to try to get things back to normal over the next few days. Hopefully, you won't notice most of them.1 point

Isn't it great to find out that none of us is perfect? I live by the old saying "measure twice, cut once" and still manage to screw up most of the time. I forget to put my brain in gear prior to releasing the clutch on my body. I always have to do things twice. That's why everything I make costs me twice as much.1 point

7- 1/4" Miter Saw
tomsteve reacted to JTTHECLOCKMAN for a topic
I too have that Lion trimmer that Rolf shows, and it is a great tool to tweak miters. The biggest problem with cutting accurate miters is accuracy itself. There are many homemade jigs out there to do this on a tablesaw, bandsaw or even miter saws. The blade needs to travel in a perfect straight line when cutting and many saws have runout which causes the blade to wander and that causes open miters. You get what you pay for.1 point -

Very well done. Do you have a pattern for the pieces or are they cut free hand?1 point -
If I ever reach a point in my life where I have to compromise the quality of the tools that I buy It will be time to pack it in. How much space are you saving going that small? Do you have another saw to do larger boards? That said, I agree about precision , I bought the Makita LS1016 dual slide compound cut saw when it first was release. It did not need as much space behind it, perfect for my shop. I was never 100% satisfied with it's miter accuracy, and yes I have spent a great deal of time tweaking it. It will do a 12" cross cut at 90 deg. I need this capacity as many of the boards I re-saw are at least that wide. But when it comes to precise miters I am not totally satisfied. I picked up one of these at a yard sale $20. It is a very scary tool but amazing precision for tweaking joints.1 point

ouch You could swap the set screw to the right side, but I doubt it would hold in place since the screw hole is stripped out, well is the screw hole stripped or is it the threads on the screw itself? helicoil works, I've used them before, though not on a scroll saw, assuming the threads on the adjusting screw are not buggered up too. Since you ordered the pegas clamps, I would suggest just sit back and wait for them to arrive1 point

I'd be curious about seeing one of these in person, LOL... The description states there are 756 lumens.... The LED replacements I buy are 1300 Lumens and 6000K color.. But.. really the amount of light is probably not as much an issue IF you have a good clear lens with a fair amount of light.. sometimes I feel my light is two bright.. so I have to close one eye to get only half the light as Ray said..1 point

Well the magnification dilemma ended this morning. My $25 1.25X mag light arrived this morning. I was not expecting much and was very pleasantly surprised. The lamp is very well constructed although the lid reminds me pf a toilet cover. It dropped into the old mounting and was plugged in. It is LED and the light appears a little more bluish than the the other lamp bit is pleasant. The focal length is ideal. I now sit upright which is a delight. The glass optic is 5" diameter and the focus is very crisp. I did find that it was much sharper when I did not wear my reading glasses. Also, when wearing magnifiers It was necessary to look over or under them when looking at something else. This gives me complete vision freedom. My back appreciates it.1 point

When you update software, it goes through the entire site and re-indexes all of the posts for easier searching. Your page that you land on should be pretty up to date. It usually does the most recent content first, then goes to the older stuff.1 point

I've updated the theme. Hopefully, nobody can tell the difference. I see the individual display records for our database is broken (things like scroll saw reviews, clubs, shops, etc). I'll have to dig into that and figure out what's wrong. Let me know if anybody else sees anything off. Thanks all!1 point
