    Lucky Spin Pattern

I thought I'd try adding a bit of animation to a sign, so I came up with this roulette type wheel that can be added to the base. The pattern has all the parts and is easy to assemble. I made the post for the wheel from 1/4" birch ply and used a dowel to have the wheel spin on it. The arrow is glued to the end of the dowel as a marker for the symbols and also keeps the wheel from coming off. No special significance to the symbols you can manufacture a game of your own, or use just numbers to make a spinner for monopoly, if you like. Download Free Pattern VIDEO ALERT: I've put up a video on YouTube mainly for beginners on how I attach my signs to bases and I also included a little tip on how to spray the signs without getting drip or run off. If you care to view it I've posted it on my YouTube Channel.

    Finally Complete

This is one I started early last Spring. Then in June, my eyes got so bad I had to quit scrolling all together. Finally got my eyes fixed in October, in December I got back to being able to actually scroll again. Completed it today. It measures 31" x 24". 21 lines of text. The hardest part of the whole project it gluing those lines of text to the board. This may be going to a Church in Memphis, Tennessee. If that doesn't work out I will try to donate it to something...

  6. I have chatted with a few of you folks about finishing and for the most part, I learned a lot. I even went so far as to buy a recommended book on the subject. I got part way through it and fell asleep. Sorry but, it's boring stuff. Anyway, after once again asking the questions about finishes and finishing, I did a search on Google regarding the sources for buying different products. In doing that I came across this video on the finishing process and all the different types of products out there. It told me so much and added to what I already had learned here that I just had to pass the link on for others. This guy knows his stuff and even does a question and answer thing toward the end. I hope you find it as informative as I did. https://hwcdn.libsyn.com/p/e/e/3/ee31d705ecc2a5f0/107-OilBasedFinishBasics.mp4?c_id=7419263&cs_id=7419263&expiration=1556742326&hwt=6f7965ee02669eecfd12ddb58ea47395

  8. Tried to create something a little different here for the graduate. Can be used for either male or female and if you are familiar with Photoshop or some other art program you can change the date for future use easily enough. Shows the main symbols of graduation along with a slogan that says it all "Sweet Success". I cut mine from cherry and used the out cuts as usual to make a unique base for the sign. The trickiest part of the cut is the stars, since they are outline figures and very fragile. You might want to make the stars solid instead which makes the cuts easier. By the way, I do custom patterns for graduation, if you need something special and have an idea, let me know. The cost of custom patterns is very reasonable and you can have a unique piece to cut for special occasions, like graduation, confirmation, etc. This Free Pattern can be downloaded from my FREE PATTERN page.

    Alleluia banner

The pastor at our church asked me if I could design an Alleluia banner for our Easter service. This is what I came up with. I designed the pattern using Inkscape and cut it on my DeWalt scroll saw. It measures 19" x 19" and was cut from 1/4" oak plywood. I put a 1/4" birch backer behind it that I painted black. It was a hit when we unveiled it Sunday morning!

    Kicking Back

Sunday so I am relaxing. Wanted to do something pretty easy so, decided it was time I finally cut a picture that I have had the pattern for since 2016. @joleet made it for me. Very sorry it took me so long to get it done. Life got in the way and I didn't get to it. This is a picture of my Father-in-law. Kinda a favorite picture of him in the family. I made 3 copies for family members that said they wanted one. He was kinda a tough old bird. A lineman that use to work on the high 400 foot (I think I heard they were that tall) towers with the high voltage lines. We have some pictures of him up on one sitting there eating his lunch, enjoying the view. It is a looooog ways up. I will make frames for them before I give them the pictures. Hope that doesn't take me another three years!

    Own This Ferrai

Ever wanted to own a Ferrari? Well here's your chance to make your own and take it for a test drive on your desktop. This sign is in the shape of the 1984 model (who wouldn't want one of these?). I cut mine from Sapele and used the off cut along with a poplar blank to make a rambling base for it. Should make a nice conversation piece at your next car show. Free pattern:

Some of the cutting I have done. Have been trying to stack cut with paper between. The paper is getting stuck as the glue softens when cutting. Have to spend time cleaning the paper off. Sometimes it comes away no problem. Other times, not so much. These are my own photos take at Lake of the Woods. 7x5 size 81 pieces. Photo glued to 1/4" ply, finished the back, light spray of finish over the photos. It takes about 2.5 hours to cut using the Niqua 2/0 puzzle blades.

  17. When I joined in August last year, about 5 months ago, I'd bought a little pin-end saw from Aldi a couple of weeks before. I was so happy with my new hobby that my other half gave me a 4ft x 3ft corner of his 'man cave'. But having joined this group and seen what could be done with a 'different' saw, I bought one of those too. Well I kind of 'outgrew' my 4'x3' space but didn't like to ask for more as 'sharing' his man cave was something totally new to Tony. However, it's not gone unnoticed that I'm quite 'smitten' with this 'scrolling lark' so he let me expand and has even put cupboards on the wall for me to keep my stuff in. I love him lots

  18. Brenda, it was very nice of your husband to share his man-space with you, and it's also very nice that he supports you and your hobby, by building you the cupboards to store your items in. I may be wrong, but, I think that just maybe he loves you a lot also..... You both are very fortunate to get along so well, and maybe he likes having you around when he is in the shop. I used to love it, when my wife would spend time working in the shop while i did, it made for some nice quality time together. Len

  19. Bernd, sent me another of his wonderful patterns and challenged me to try and cut it. Last time it was the B25 where I changed the font and heard so many people ask about it. This time it is the 1936 Duesenberg. What a beautiful car from the past. I was a little afraid the all the uprights of the grill were going to get broken because they are not supported by anything at the tops of them, but I managed to cut them without an incident. Overall I am pleased with the outcome and eventually I will make a frame for it and hang it on my computer room wall. I do not have the cutting skill of Bernd, as you all already are aware of, but for me, I came out 90 % happy with the end results. I cut it approx. 11 X 15 inches and changed to pattern to a lighter color so I could see my blade better, then when it was black and white. I did change the pattern a little but took on most of the challenges in it. I used a Pegas #3 and a #1spiral to cut this one. I have 4 days left before we have company from Germany and then we will be going on a hot air balloon ride the day she leaves and 3 days later we are off to Oregon for 2 1/2 months, so no shop time for most of the summer. One of the good parts about that trip is, I will have the opportunity to visit my good friend, Scrappile a couple of times. Dick heppnerguy

  20. My wife told me about 2-3 weeks ago that they was going to be throwing a baby shower for a co-worker.. and that she wanted me to make something as a gift.. No problem..just let me know what and make sure to give me a few days.. This Monday she reminded me but didn't know what she wanted me to make.. then she went out and dug through my stuff to see if I might already have something made up.. which i do have a few things.. but nothing she wanted.. Last night laying in bed.. she said.. Oh.. the baby shower is tomorrow after work.. can you make one of the angels like you made for so and so two years ago? LOL Not to mention I had two orders that had to get done and in the mail today... Anyway.. I got it done and was able to deliver it to her work early this afternoon.. I always talk about how bad I hate those last minute people that order today thinking they can get it in the mail over night... But.. gotta say.. I love this customer.. Sue Mey Pattern.. Cut from Maple with a Oak and Mahogany base..

    Second Verse

Some time ago I did a picture of two hawks from a pattern by @grampa. He did two patterns of hawks that I really liked. Tonight, after a long time I finished the second one. Thank you Grampa, for the excellent patterns. They were both a pleasure to cut, I only hope I did them justice. The one on the left is the first one I did, the right is the one I finished this evening. Both are cut in Basswood. I love cutting Basswood.

  25. Many thanks for all the comments. Frame is redwood and from a repurposed railing taken out of a home during a remodel. Yes Trackman, 35 flat blades. Find that when I seem to be pushing the wood to make the cut, it is time to replace the blade. Will be entering this piece into our local fair this year which starts in July. Thanks again, Ron

    Raccoons

Paul, yes the little suckers can look cute at times, but they can also be very destructive at times as well. I had an awful problem with them and skunks where I used to live, they got into everything and either tore it up or crapped and urinated all over everything. So I'm sorry, but I no longer consider the little menaces, skunks or raccoons to be cute. Another one to add to the list, red squirrels, they are very very destructive. They get in the attic and side walls of a previous shop I owned, and they stripped every last inch of R-22 pink fiberglass insulation. So I started trapping them, and when I stopped because I grew tired of doing so. I had to live trap them, my kids would have been very upset if I had used rat traps. Everyday, I would have to empty the live traps, and I never ever got any less then three squirrels per day. One buddy of mine thought that they might be finding their way back, he suggested that I paint a part of them so I could recognize the ones I released. Len

Paul, it's a very nice cutting, you did a terrific job cutting it out. I worked as a linesman, it was one of my most favorite jobs. And yes, they can reach that height, and yes to the amazing view you can get while at the top of them. Every once in a while, we would use binoculars to see things better. We had the binoculars for work purposes, they were used to get a better look at the lines. So no, we weren't perverts, we mostly looked at wildlife and lakes and rivers. The lines that we worked on, were so far away from civilization, that's all there was to look at. The job I was most interested in getting, was the one where the helicopters were used to work on the lines. Very dangerous work in many ways, but it just looked to be such a cool job. Of all the jobs I've had over the years, that was the one I liked best and missed the most after leaving. Len

  35. Steve Good has given us thousand of patterns but the thing I use most is his Key Chain maker. I have done a couple hundred keys chains as gifts. Quick and easy and very well appreciated as a lot of kids have never had a personalized gift. New scrollers may not know of this great program as it is way way down his blog. http://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/ I have just complete one for each of the lacrosse team with their name and number. I add ball chain as these go on their travel bag. One thing about this font is there are some special characters that are useful too. I did one for my wife with a heart at each end and the sports team I do with a star before number. The special characters are the chart below. ;-semi colon ; ,-comma-colon , .-period . /-slash / [-sq parenthesis [ ]-sq parenthesis {]

I may have to bother Bob again for a header pattern. The duplicates (Tennessee and Michigan) are for my niece and nephew. The California is for my son.
