    Home Sweet Home

That old saying "Home Sweet Home" has been pictured many ways, so I was trying to find a new way to express it in wood. I came up with a sort of modern version with the hearts representing a family, perhaps. I cut mine from Sapele and mounted it on a piece of cherry. Happy to find a nice piece of cherry in my cut off box with a slight knot that gives the base a nice feel and compliments the sign. Hope you enjoy cutting it. Free Pattern.

  3. Tried to create something a little different here for the graduate. Can be used for either male or female and if you are familiar with Photoshop or some other art program you can change the date for future use easily enough. Shows the main symbols of graduation along with a slogan that says it all "Sweet Success". I cut mine from cherry and used the out cuts as usual to make a unique base for the sign. The trickiest part of the cut is the stars, since they are outline figures and very fragile. You might want to make the stars solid instead which makes the cuts easier. By the way, I do custom patterns for graduation, if you need something special and have an idea, let me know. The cost of custom patterns is very reasonable and you can have a unique piece to cut for special occasions, like graduation, confirmation, etc. This Free Pattern can be downloaded from my FREE PATTERN page.

  4. Let me start by apologizing for not introducing myself before. I believe that I have been a member of Scroll Saw Village for about 2 years now. I was born just outside of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Now reside in Southern Ontario, Canada not too far from Niagara Falls. My background is engineeering design, both mechanical and electrical. I also have an extensive background within the graphic arts fields. I am dating myself here. I started drawing professionally way back in 1972 within the Telecommunication fields. Space program, Satellites, etc. I was also designated graphic arts designer therefore was very involved with all company artwork and brochures. Let me not forget photography as I was also the company photographer as well. Moving on, the first computer for me was purchased by the company I worked for in 1984. Autocad was only becoming popular then and I was nominated as the pioneer within our company for this new style of engineering design. Before that, everything was drawn by hand, drafting board, etc.. I was actually using this program before General Motors and was asked by some of the engineering staff at GM to show them how this program worked. Over the years, the company purchased more programs for me. Coreldraw, Photoshop, Illustrator to name a few. In 2004, I was at a local Home Depot where there was this old guy (probably my current age) demonstrating a scroll saw. We talked for a little bit and I was hooked. I think it was only a day later that I went out to Sears and purchased my first scroll saw. Craftsman 16". soon after that, I purchased a Pro Craftsman 20". I ordered books, magazines you name it and anything to do with scroll saw. Within months, I was already cutting my first advanced portrait. Because of my extensive drawing background, I started to design my own patterns in 2005, but not using a computer. I drew them by hand from photos that I took. Sat for hours in our living room while watching TV and drawing at the same time. It was only in 2014 or 2015 that I was encouraged to introduce my designs to the public through some Facebook Scroll Saw groups that I belonged to. Then after doing so, I was found by Fox Chapel Publishing company where some of my work has been published. It is difficult to keep a life long journey within design world brief. Let me not forget that my mom enrolled me into art class at a local college when I was 12. I hated every moment of it as it was on a Saturday morning. All I wanted to do then was play outside with my friends. Never thinking that I would be still drawing today in 2019. So, professionally and hobby wise, i have been drawing and designing for over 47 years and still having a blast. For those who would like to see some of my scroll saw designs, you can find me at www.scrollsawart4u.weebly.com. I now own 3 scroll saws. 1998 30" Excalibur, 2009 21" Excalibur and finally a new King 30" Excelsior. I am also an avid cyclist. I have ridden my bicycle equivalent to 5 times the circumference of earth. I designed cycling jerseys for local racing clubs since 1998 and countless T-Shirt designs as well, but all for cycling. I was in a racing club for over 25 years. Too old for that now, but still enjoy cycling. I also love to play golf and long hikes with my wife. We both love the outdoors. She is a gardener and I am the artist who loves to make crazy things for our garden and house.

    In Honor of April

I made this picture in honor of April the giraffe at the Animal Adventure Park in New York, who just gave birth to a beautiful baby boy about a week ago. I watched the birth on live cam. I have done this pattern by @alexfox, before and it is a real treat to cut. There are not difficult or fragile areas, although it may look like their would be. I really recommend this pattern to anyone wanting to try their first picture cut. Alex has a sea turtle one also that is very impressive, a little more difficult, but a pleasure to cut. I did it a little different than any I have done before. I stained the backer behind the giraffe with a stain called Nutmeg, painted the eye area black. You can't see it without really looking closely, but I painted the backer behind the leaves a light green. The green doesn't show up as much as I hoped, but I had to try it. The frame is cherry with Watco Tung Oil finish. The picture is cut in 1/2" Basswood. I guess this is going to another April fan, that is a co-worker of my Daughter.

  8. More than likely it's slow wifi/internet. If your computer used to function ok, I'd think it's slow internet. Try it late at night and see if it is better. The more folks online, the slower it is. I have Verizon FIOS 100/100 and it's fast. My laptop runs Win 10 and is an I-5 processor with 8 gig of RAM if that tells you anything for comparison. I had absolutely no pausing or stops. It ran smoothly all the way through. If you have trouble, just let it load the buffer while you go make a snack or something.

  9. Mark Spagnola, The Wood Whisperer, has a lot of excellent videos on woodworking. He's very knowledgeable and his videos are well done. We all learn differently and videos like this are just another tool in the tool box, just like books, internet forums, etc. Use them all to your advantage.

  10. Hello All.... My name is Ed and I am from Bucks County, PA, close to Doylestown if anyone knows the area. I used to do scrollsaw work for fun before I started a family. Once I got married and had kids, that was put on hold. So now that they are older and in college....I am slowly getting back into it. Looking through the forums, wow you guys and gals are talented!! I look forward to being a contributing member of this community I work in the Clinical Research field within IT and sit at a desk all day.....so this is another reason getting back into the hobby. Been working on losing my winter weight since '91 HAHA Thank you and hope everyone has a great day!! I look forward to your inspirations!! Ed

  13. I have chatted with a few of you folks about finishing and for the most part, I learned a lot. I even went so far as to buy a recommended book on the subject. I got part way through it and fell asleep. Sorry but, it's boring stuff. Anyway, after once again asking the questions about finishes and finishing, I did a search on Google regarding the sources for buying different products. In doing that I came across this video on the finishing process and all the different types of products out there. It told me so much and added to what I already had learned here that I just had to pass the link on for others. This guy knows his stuff and even does a question and answer thing toward the end. I hope you find it as informative as I did. https://hwcdn.libsyn.com/p/e/e/3/ee31d705ecc2a5f0/107-OilBasedFinishBasics.mp4?c_id=7419263&cs_id=7419263&expiration=1556742326&hwt=6f7965ee02669eecfd12ddb58ea47395

  14. That seems like a pretty good deal... I pay more than that for my landline / DSL/ Dish Network and we have a crappy DN package.. and the DSL is not great as you can see.. I do have the 8/1 speed package... mostly because it handles the load better for when all 5 of us are on our devices / computers..

  17. Kevin, it's all a part of our package. We are tv freaks. We watch a lot of tv. So, with that said, we subscribe to Verizon/Frontier and have everything they offer for tv. We have a landline phone and high speed internet. All for only $190/month. I have to fight them every 12 months to keep the price down. This time, we locked THEM into a 2-year deal. So no ups for 24 months.

  18. Now that talk sounds like a teen talking tech... LOL I don't find too many folks older than 30 years old that really understands that info.. BTW. For me.. it's the slow internet I have DSL and it's slow.. I have three speed packages to choose from 4/512 , 8/1 or 16/1 Then on top of that.. we are bogged down based on load of their server system.. Unless we pay for a business plan which puts us on a different system than everyone else which supposedly isn't bogged down, LOL.. Got a friend on the business one and only difference is he has a higher speed during the busiest times where mine bogs down.. fortunately the time is typically during a time I don't really have a "Need" for it.. The price of these are crazy for the business one and it really only enhances the speed in a 5-6 hour window... usually when I'm busy with family things anyway. so no real reason for me to upgrade.. I'd do it in a heartbeat if it were getting higher speeds etc.. but since I'm still limited and only enhanced during a 5ish hour window.. It's not worth the extra $20-30 a month to me..

  19. Very interesting.... I watched it through with no problems whatsoever. xx

  20. I too tried to take a look at it but it loads too slow and too many pauses. I figured it was my old computer and slow DSL service. But it is one person's point of view. Everyone does things differently. I am sure there is some good info in there and seeing someone do something is easier to comprehend than reading it.

  21. I ran across this a ear or so ago ( I think it was ) and I had issues watching it as Paul said.. tried again yesterday and same deal.. I did make it to around 18-20 minutes before I gave up, LOL then later I came back and it worked great.. maybe the server for his video was over loaded with everyone watching, LOL.. I do agree.. I look for videos rather than books... for one I learn better by seeing it or actually hearing it than the written word.. secondly.. most times you can find a free video.. books cost money and then when you're done either take up space in your bookcase or you have to get rid of it.. LOL It was very informational I enjoyed it a great deal.. thank you for reminding me of this.. since I tried watching a long time ago and gave up.. then since forgot, lol

  24. I watched him often over the years. He has come a long ways. For some reason I now have trouble with video watching on my computer. They constantly pause and play catch up. Very annoying. Not sure way, maybe I need to upgrade my service, or my router or something.

    Finally Complete

This is one I started early last Spring. Then in June, my eyes got so bad I had to quit scrolling all together. Finally got my eyes fixed in October, in December I got back to being able to actually scroll again. Completed it today. It measures 31" x 24". 21 lines of text. The hardest part of the whole project it gluing those lines of text to the board. This may be going to a Church in Memphis, Tennessee. If that doesn't work out I will try to donate it to something...

    Own This Ferrai

Ever wanted to own a Ferrari? Well here's your chance to make your own and take it for a test drive on your desktop. This sign is in the shape of the 1984 model (who wouldn't want one of these?). I cut mine from Sapele and used the off cut along with a poplar blank to make a rambling base for it. Should make a nice conversation piece at your next car show. Free pattern:

  39. Many thanks for all the comments. Frame is redwood and from a repurposed railing taken out of a home during a remodel. Yes Trackman, 35 flat blades. Find that when I seem to be pushing the wood to make the cut, it is time to replace the blade. Will be entering this piece into our local fair this year which starts in July. Thanks again, Ron

  40. You have probably seen this but in case you have not I will post it. I do not know that it has anything to do with you problem. If you have only had you clamps two months, maybe you should contact Pegas. Someone else on the forum had a problem with them and I think Pegas took care of it.
