Desk lamp napkin holder

Enjoyed creating this sign in honor of our veterans of all types. I used the sword because of its symbolic power, but I also saw in the shape (if you look closely with your imagination) the outline of an airplane, submarine, aircraft carrier, and torpedo all of which are symbolic of our forces and the great people who manned them. I cut mine from red oak (not such a good idea because it doesn't hold together very well when detail cutting) and mounted it on a pine slab which I dressed with stripe cuts along the edges and on top. Hope you like working with this project. Free Pattern5 points

I don't have room in my shop to use the factory stand for my new Pegas saw so I made a base for it to be able to clamp it to my bench. Probably not necessary to clamp it though. It doesn't move at all but I did want the blade storage and to raise it to a more comfortable height for me. Thought it might be useful to others so I am sharing what I did. It is made from some leftovers I had around the shop. I cut some pipe in half for the blade trays in the drawer. Used a forstner bit to drill a piece of 1/4 plywood and cut it in half to mount the pipe pieces to. The drawers slide out because it was the easy way to go. The small gray squares are made from the floor mats that HF sells to help raise the saw to a better height for me. I also made a place for the hold down clamp so it doesn't get lost.3 points

Dragonfly Trivet by Charles Hand
amazingkevin and 2 others reacted to britetomro for a topic
This is my second pattern by Charles Hand. The Dragonfly measures approximately 9" in diameter. I used Corian due to the possibility of using it as a trivet. After completing I knew with how fragile this piece was, the only place for it would to be mounted for display. Corian is an easy material to work with but you have to run at a slower speed in order to create less friction which can melt the cut material together and create problems. I used a #5 Polar blade and used a total of 11 blades for this project. Cutting time on this piece was 14 hours. In the end, presentation is in the display. I used maple for the frame and black felt on the back mounting bo ard. Will be doing some additional work on the frame next week along with the finish on the frame.3 points -
I'm envious of you for sure Kevin. Unfortunately we've grown accustomed to the income from the day job and of course the benefits (health care primarily)... Even with the puzzles and the tourist map/guide business I can't walk away. The map/guide business has allowed Mrs. Iggy the luxury of quitting her job, so at least one member of the family is enjoying the carefree life.3 points

Iggy Markets Update
Phantom Scroller and one other reacted to Iguanadon for a topic
Market season kicked off Easter weekend. As previously reported, the first day was a rainout for me and did well the 2nd day. Two more events since then Event 1 - 56 puzzles sold (about the same as last year for day 2) Event 2 - 69 puzzles sold (11 short compared to last year) Event 3 (yesterday) - 39 puzzles sold (8 short compared to last year) My weekly market starts up next week and I'll do it every Saturday that it isn't raining. It's only 5 hours (8am to 1pm) and I average 22 puzzles each week. Next big event is week of July 4th, three days long, sold 132 last year. Now for my possible issue... My day job decided to give me a promotion last week and I'm afraid it'll affect some of my puzzle cutting time. We'll see. If I have to give up some of my weekly markets in order to ensure adequate inventory for the big events, that's what I'll do. Iggy2 points -
Thank you, I think this is the right decision. I did not want to accuse you of something, I just wanted to clarify the situation. Anyway, you made a nice cutting.2 points

Curious about small parts storage
TripleJScroller and one other reacted to Bill WIlson for a topic
I have tons of general purpose carpentry nails, finish nails and a few specialty nails that I've accumulated over the years. I don't use many these days, but they come in handy and I suppose my kids will be tossing them after I die. I'm left handed. When I was a teenager, my Dad (right handed) gave me my first real hammer. It was one he had that he never liked. Now Dad worked in the building trades most of his life, so he was very familiar with hammers. For some reason, he said he couldn't drive a nail straight with this one, so he gave it to me. I still have it, some 45 years later. I used it when I worked as a carpenter. I used it to build my own house and I still use it today, on the odd occasion when I actually need to drive a nail. I used to tell Dad that it didn't work for him, because it was a left handed hammer.2 points -

I had a couple different brands of small part cabinets for screws, nuts, and washers. Hated the two I bought from HF, had a hard time pulling the drawers out. Found some on sale and with careful measuring and a couple of gift cards I purchased what I needed to maximize the space I had. Went through everything I had and organized it by size and type. Threw out the oddball stuff that I had. It makes it easier to find what I need when I need it. I also know right away if I have something that will work or I need to make a trip to the store. I try to get more than one type or size when I go because I hate to waste the time it takes to go for one box of screws. I also have others for cabinet hardware like spare hinges, catches, and knobs. I don't buy extras of these items, just stuff I have collected over the years. I do like to be able to go to one spot in my shop to "check stock" of what is available. Next on my list is to label everything...2 points

Curious about small parts storage

Would you like to marry my wife? She saves everything. It's going to come in handy one day. We just don't know what day that is. RJF2 points -
You are probably the smartest guy I know. Unfortunately, I'm a bit "scottish" when it comes to spending money so I always save everything. And you are so right about spending time hunting for something that you just know you have somewhere. Oh well.............thanks.2 points

Ok, here's another topic we can all agree to disagree on but it will be fun to see how everybody does it. I have two 40 drawer parts cabinets that I bought at H/F and a much sturdier 16 drawer cabinet that I inherited from the guy who lived across the street from me. My son just acquired 5 more small parts cabs and brought them to me full of mostly junk stuff. The unfortunate parts is none of these are of any sort of match except for the two that I bought at H/F. I got to wondering how you all have your stuff organized. Nuts, bolts, screws, etc. When should you draw the line? Who wants to go first. Pictures would be greatly appreciated.1 point

I did it. I made my miter sled. Very crude but seems to work. I just used what I had on hand with the exception of the toggle clamps which came from HF. It was somewhat of a struggle as I have a cheap saw with chintzy fence. I always use a framing square to make sure it is square with the table. There are things I will do different should I make another one which I probably won't. I wanted to make a rustic frame so I used a very rough cedar fence stake. I may never make another as my space is too crowded to work comfortably.1 point

I would just put it on a white background and take a nice photo of it. Then you will have the pattern and you can simply make it black and white so its easier to see.1 point

Base with blade storage for New Pegas saw
OCtoolguy reacted to scrollingforsanity for a topic
Great job on the stand. I wish my Seyco would have been easier to put on a table. The rails didn't fit right for the table method. By the time they made me a new set I had modified everything to have it on a stand. Its running pretty smooth and I hate to take it apart. Like Scrappile says those Pegas saws sure are pretty. If I had known they were coming out with one I would have waited. Enjoy your Pegas saw. Your thinking out of the box on making the setup for the table mount. I like it. grizz1 point -

Congrats on the promotion.. but I must say.. It sucks to have work interfere with business... why I quit working 20 years ago.. I've been on many different journeys since then from running my own autobody shop to lawn care to selling tractor parts on eBay.. I must say.. this scroll saw / woodworking has been by far the most fulfilling less stress business / work I've done.. Not as big of an income but money isn't everything in life.. so long as I can pay bills and put a little aside..1 point

Well, what I should have said is, other than finish nails, that is. I haven't used any carpentry nails in a very long time but I have boxes of them. Everything that I have cluged together has been with screws. I never could drive a nail straight. My Dad always said it was because I'm wrong handed.1 point

Does anybody still use nails. I have boxes of different size/type nails that I have acquired over the ladt 10 years. None that I have purchased. I honestly can't recall using a nail in a very long time. Other than a nail gun nail that is. I think what I have is headed for the dumpster. I know I have way too many odds and ends. I guess I need to dump what I have and start over.1 point
