    Barter project

I vape and I was at the shop talking to the owner. He asked how my recovery was going and we talked about what I was doing while off work. Long story short! He asked if I could do one of his logos and I said YEP, EASY. I can have it tomorrow. He said when I bring it in, find something in the store for trade. We will continue to adorn his shop. Here it is!

  6. This is the first video I have ever done so don't expect much. This was my setup at the festival the last weekend in April. It was a 2 1/2 day event. It is usually attended by around 200,000 people. It was my first year to participate. Booth rental was $350, which to me was really pricey. My spot was under a large canopy so I didn't have to worry about the rain. At the end of the event I decided it was a bargain. Art show.mp4

  10. The passing of a loved one is always an earth shaking event and people often send flowers, lamps, wreaths and other items to help sooth the pain. This table sign might help by offering comfort to the situation. Mine is cut from Sapele wood, a nice soft chocolate wood, and as usual I used the off cut to make an improvised layered base. The top layer and sign were then mounted on a piece of maple. Done in a fine wood it makes an impressive display piece. In my newsletter I also explain how you can use other cut off pieces to make your bases and signs really stand out. If you haven't signed up for my newsletter, please do so in the form at the top of my Free Pattern Page, where you can also download this free pattern:

  11. Here's another car name and shape made as a table ornament sign. I wanted to give a traveling effect to this sign so I placed it upon an off cut from another sign and made it look like the long and winding road. I cut the sign from 1/4" birch ply and the base is cut from Sapele and both are given a coat of clear seal. I put a second picture up so you can get a better idea of what the base looks like. OOPS! I said I bought 4X8' but should have said 2X4'. Old age does that.

Sometimes it's labeled Birch plywood. (Not Baltic Birch, just Birch ply) Sometimes labeled underlayment. I find mine in the areas where Poplar and Oak is found in various lengths. 1/4" Baltic Birch is 4 or 5 ply. The 3/16" is 3 ply. Even so it cuts nicely, using a #1 Pegas MG blade I found little tear out on back and finishes well. Results for others may vary.

I guess that's why I buy 3/16" underlayment for real cheap. 4X8 about $12. I can afford to waste it. Surface looks just like the pricey stuff from Woodcraft.

If you get that. Go for the 20 sheets at 12x24 for same price. This way if you need it bigger you got it. Or you can cut some 8x 12 and get three out of one . Just a thought

  28. Dave, Your display is FABULOUS! Seriously! It is clean, not cluttered but yet you have many different items displayed! I love it! Good job! I just wish I had that much time to spend in my shop to make everything I hope or would like to try to make. Questions ... do you have a video or a picture of the front of your boot, showing how you displayed your "business"? I really like your display!

    Cudos to Dave Monk

I just thought I'd bring attention to Dave Monk being mentioned on Steve Good's website today. I get his email every day and today he highlighted Dave's recent work of art done from a Steve Good pattern. Hat's off to you Dave. Great job on that box. For those of you who might have missed it, here is the link. http://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/2019/04/dragon-and-sword-box-scroll-saw-pattern.html
