    Back at the Saw

This is my first project since my Shoulder surgery. Found in the Pattern Vault by Phantom Scroller. Doesn't look like much but it took me a while and I am happy to be making saw dust again.

  3. Wow! Today marks the 8th year anniversary of my finishing of this dome clock... This is the project that gave me the confidence to start posting my work online for public viewing... My, how time does fly... I got this clock pattern from Wildwood Designs who have since been merged with Cherry Tree Toys... It took a while to finish this gem but was an absolute joy to make and especially to complete! Including a picture of the clock after I stained and Polyurethaned it... Not exactly sure which version I like better but I'm very proud of the project either way... Edit: Oh, this is 1/4" Southern Red Oak with a Walnut dial... It was stained Dark Walnut and sprayed with 3 coats of Minwax Polyurethane...

    Walnut cross

This was a piece of Walnut my brother gave me awhile ago. I didn't know what to do with it and this just came as an idea. I cut the cross and just raised it a little, I really like this one. It was nice to see how impressed my youngest daughter was with it. It is about 38 inches long and 11 inches wide at the top. I have no idea what I'll do with it. Thanks for looking.

    Good Neighbors

Often this quote from Robert Frost makes a lot of sense. In some cases you might need a big fence in others you might only need an outline, like the one in this pattern. In any event I cut mine from 1/4" birch ply and mounted it on a rather exotic base of Lati wood, a scrap from another project that I shaped as a nesting place for the sign. 7. This is my latest Scroll Saw Shell. The wood used us Sapele and I also used a Hard Maple Veneer as an accent strip between each segment. There are 44 segments total in this shell. The overall measurement are 8" wide by 8" high. The stand was also made from Sapele which were the left over pieces from the blanks used to create the segments. Each segment blank measured approximately 9" wide by 7" deep and 1 3/4" thick. The finish is a spray poly which presently has 8 coats. The photos also show all 44 segments displayed before the gluing process as well as a few of the stages of the glue up. There are many hours of sanding involved with this project and the finish is applied as the shell is being assembled. This piece of art will also be entered into our local fair this July. Thanks for looking.

    Memorial Day

This simple sign says it all, from the solemn crosses to the draped flag. I cut this from a piece of birch ply and mounted it on a wood base of cherry that I stressed using my belt sander. Gives a nice worn effect. Free pattern available:

  11. I'll kick it off with a couple of flower's I've made for my wife. The first was something I found on Pinterest while searching for Celtic Knots. I couldn't find any info on the original artist. The second is a Steve Good pattern, and after making one for my wife, I got a request to make another for a friend to give to her husband on their anniversary.

  12. A friend of mine saw my Vacation Plaques and said he would pay a good price for one of his own. I reached out to Bob and he gladly obliged. I am again Thankful for Bob and his talent as a pattern maker and expiditing those patterns so I could get them done so soon. Bob, I am so grateful as always for the help and patience with me. I may be reaching out sooner than I planned...lol

    Mothers Day Piece

Mom loves Oatman and Vegas so i figured i would have some fun and combine the two. Funny because if you know anything about Oatman, its pretty far from fabulous. lol

It's too bad some of you can't find a local source for the full 60 x 60 inch sheet.. I buy mine this way.. one sheet cost $12.75 for 1/8 inch.. But the more you buy the better the price.. I buy 10 sheets at a time and my cost is $11.05.. per sheet.. 1/4 inch is $16.50 per sheet or $14.30 for 10+ sheets.. I don't use the 1/4 much so I only get a few sheets at a time.. Getting the full sheet allows you to make the blanks any size you want, LOL

  17. I originally planned to wait and see if these really work but, this challenge came up so, maybe other members want to try it also. You can buy these professionally made but, I just used scrap pine. Height about 5 3/4", Width about 4". 1/4" dowels abt 1 1/2" and mesh material to put cotton, dog hair, twine or other materials a Hummingbird can use to start a nest. I used the easy way out and just cut one side of the roof 3/4" longer than the other side to over-lap but, it could be miter cut.

  19. I posted this project awhile ago but it fits here. The flower and petals are made of thin wood shavings. The Monarch is wood with epoxy fill.

  22. Beautiful work on all, for sure. Could you use an air compressor on the dust? I'd love to build one, but what would I do with it after it was done and my wife was tired of it sitting in the middle of the living room? I have a hand crank street organ.... Such a challenge, such fun to build,,, what do I do with it now??

Glad you mentioned that.. as I sometimes forget that I go through more material than most others do... I typically run through 20+ sheets a year.. though I only buy 10 at a time.. because as you say.. you don't want it setting around too long.. I do also chop several sheets down to size.. but also keep a few sheets cut into 3rds. ( 20 x 60 inch ) for those odd jobs I might need a larger piece than what I typically use..

  24. Great work, Greg, As for preference, I like the lighter shade before the stain but, that is always subjective to different individuals. God Bless! Spirithorse

Likewise I get my Baltic Birch in full 5'x5' (60"x60") sheets from a dealer. I typically go through 5 or 6 sheets per year. Though they are not as cheap as where Kevin gets his it is still cheaper then getting pieces off of eBay or other internet sources. They even cut it in half width wise for free so it makes it easier to transport and store.

I agree with Kevin on buying full sheets to a point. Just a point to add to that. If you are using alot of it this is the cheapest way for sure and if you can pick and choose, even better. But you need a system to store it if you do not go through it regularly because it will warp and warp it will. Now if you could buy large sheets and cut down to a size you are normally using then it would make it easier to store. I use to do this but have come to realization I do not use much of it so I just started paying a little more and bought what I needed in the sizes I use most. Makes for easy storage flat. I have started making small jigs with this stuff so I may have to rethink this again. But as mentioned there is an option from the big box stores and I have used the so called birch plywood and floor underlayment for things as well. Happy scrolling.

  32. I live in a much smaller area than you do. Still you have to get your name in early to get a space. Actually the prices are not outrageous, I think the highest I have reserved for this year are around 90.00 a space and I reserve two to three 10x10 spaces. I just don't charge much for my crafts and need to raise it just a little bit. Everything seems to be going up. I sure like your display though. I also make wood puzzles and have not displayed them like you. I just have them in a large plastic tub. I think I need to get them out where they can see them individually. Hope your next events are great. grizz
