Latest Scroll Saw Shell
barb.j.enders and 6 others reacted to britetomro for a topic
This is my latest Scroll Saw Shell. The wood used us Sapele and I also used a Hard Maple Veneer as an accent strip between each segment. There are 44 segments total in this shell. The overall measurement are 8" wide by 8" high. The stand was also made from Sapele which were the left over pieces from the blanks used to create the segments. Each segment blank measured approximately 9" wide by 7" deep and 1 3/4" thick. The finish is a spray poly which presently has 8 coats. The photos also show all 44 segments displayed before the gluing process as well as a few of the stages of the glue up. There are many hours of sanding involved with this project and the finish is applied as the shell is being assembled. This piece of art will also be entered into our local fair this July. Thanks for looking.7 points -
The set of Pegas blade clamps that I ordered from QTE turned up today. Took 3 days from the time I ordered to hit Melbourne from the US then 11 days from Melbourne to Kal. Aussie post's stage must of thrown a wheel or a couple of the horses dropped dead Easy to fit and set up on the Ex21. Tensioning is a breeze, I never thought they could improve on the original Excalibur system, but !. Locating the blade and tightening the thumb screws seems easier. They are pretty and they came packaged in a plastic box fit for the crown jewels, shame it just has to go in the bin. Came just in the nick of time as the original lever was beginning to let go every so often this morning.'6 points

Walnut cross
amazingkevin and 4 others reacted to Fish for a topic
This was a piece of Walnut my brother gave me awhile ago. I didn't know what to do with it and this just came as an idea. I cut the cross and just raised it a little, I really like this one. It was nice to see how impressed my youngest daughter was with it. It is about 38 inches long and 11 inches wide at the top. I have no idea what I'll do with it. Thanks for looking.5 points -
Dome Clock Anniversary
amazingkevin and 4 others reacted to Greg Slagle for a topic
Wow! Today marks the 8th year anniversary of my finishing of this dome clock... This is the project that gave me the confidence to start posting my work online for public viewing... My, how time does fly... I got this clock pattern from Wildwood Designs who have since been merged with Cherry Tree Toys... It took a while to finish this gem but was an absolute joy to make and especially to complete! Including a picture of the clock after I stained and Polyurethaned it... Not exactly sure which version I like better but I'm very proud of the project either way... Edit: Oh, this is 1/4" Southern Red Oak with a Walnut dial... It was stained Dark Walnut and sprayed with 3 coats of Minwax Polyurethane...5 points -

I wanted to do a desk sign for a friend that was helping us with some landscaping ideas......I asked for help and got some great choices from the Village pattern makers....I used patterns by Bobscroll and DJ.....But want to shout out to Wayne Mahler and Grampa Paul for their help as well !.....For those of us that scroll but do not have the skills to draw patterns you guys are life savers !...The first one is by Bobscroll and is cut from 3/4 BB with a cedar base....I could not decide which mystery wood to use for DJ's pattern so cut one of each...also 3/4 material ...Thanks again for all the help !...Steve.4 points -

Memorial Day

I don't have room in my shop to use the factory stand for my new Pegas saw so I made a base for it to be able to clamp it to my bench. Probably not necessary to clamp it though. It doesn't move at all but I did want the blade storage and to raise it to a more comfortable height for me. Thought it might be useful to others so I am sharing what I did. It is made from some leftovers I had around the shop. I cut some pipe in half for the blade trays in the drawer. Used a forstner bit to drill a piece of 1/4 plywood and cut it in half to mount the pipe pieces to. The drawers slide out because it was the easy way to go. The small gray squares are made from the floor mats that HF sells to help raise the saw to a better height for me. I also made a place for the hold down clamp so it doesn't get lost.3 points

They are nice clamps. I held out for a long time before I finally broke down and ordered some. Even after I put them on my Seyco, I thought ,,, nice, but really, what's all the fuss about ..? They are just clamps. Now that I have used them a while.... humm, sure would hate to go back to the original ones. The originals would seem very big and clumsy. In fact if I had to replace them for some reason,,, I don't think I would put the old ones back on, I would get another set of the Pegas.3 points

Pegas clamps

I agree, John.......The Pegas clamps are worth the investment !3 points -
So that's why my orders take so long to get to the customer.. They almost always make it to Australia in just a few days .. but then they set somewhere for several more... Mail a lot of car clocks over there.. Must be big into the classics over there..LOL Those Pegas clamps are awesome.. love mine.. I truly believe I'd have sold my saw had I not bought that upgrade.. I just couldn't get the hang of those stock EX clamps..3 points

Working on a wedding present for my son
amazingkevin and one other reacted to koehler788 for a topic
My future daughter in law asked me to make her and my son this cross for their wedding. She is going to distress the cross and add the " nails and rope"the finished pic is what she showed me and the other is what I came up with. It is unassembled awaiting for her to do the cross. I will assemble everything after she gets her lettering and cross painted. This is not my forte and I am for sure that I won't be doing anymore large projects like this...lol2 points -

A friend of mine saw my Vacation Plaques and said he would pay a good price for one of his own. I reached out to Bob and he gladly obliged. I am again Thankful for Bob and his talent as a pattern maker and expiditing those patterns so I could get them done so soon. Bob, I am so grateful as always for the help and patience with me. I may be reaching out sooner than I planned...lol1 point -

Those are beautiful! Great patterns and cutting.1 point -
Wayne, you will wonder why you waited. I hated the idea of spending $100 on something that really wasn't broken. But once installed and in use, I was very happy that I made the decision to buy them. My saw didn't suffer from excessive vibration but after I installed the Pegas clamps, it became even smoother. I'm like Paul in that if they broke or wore out, I'd buy another set.1 point

Latest Scroll Saw Shell
Scrappile reacted to britetomro for a topic
Thanks for the comments. The Shells are fun and no doubt require a lot of sanding. One thing about these shells is that it is difficult to find anything else like them. Once you have the right tools in place however the overall process is really not too difficult. For anyone interested in learning more or making these scroll saw shells, I would direct you to look up Steve Garrison, watch the youtube videos and purchase his ebook on this project. My first one was simply done with a 14" long 2X4. I sold one of my 2X4 shells last year for $225 and was very pleased. The purchaser just had to have it. I have one made of layers of black and white corian which measures almost 11" in diameter and that one would take almost a grand to part with due to the almost 60 hours and 103 segments. Someday it and others may leave my hands but till then they are there for my enjoyment along with family and friends.1 point -
Wood Received
JTTHECLOCKMAN reacted to kmmcrafts for a topic
Glad you mentioned that.. as I sometimes forget that I go through more material than most others do... I typically run through 20+ sheets a year.. though I only buy 10 at a time.. because as you say.. you don't want it setting around too long.. I do also chop several sheets down to size.. but also keep a few sheets cut into 3rds. ( 20 x 60 inch ) for those odd jobs I might need a larger piece than what I typically use..1 point -
