Obviously inspired by Fiona Kingdon's art I thought this piece of spalted oak with worm holes had a story to tell. While cutting the scene and listening to my Daughter's Echo Dot the old hymn He Leadeth Me Came on. I think this line from the song fits the piece very well. I don't have any artistic ability so I used 3 pieces of clip art to get an outline of the ship, lighthouse, and birds. It is about 6" X 11".5 points -

I finished this on Monday, May 13th, actually took several Mondays. The pattern is by Jacob Fowler and found in "Woodworker's Pattern Book". I used 1/2" Mahogany 8" x 12" with 3/4" Red Oak for the base. The base has a slot to hold the upright. I used FD UR #1 and #5 blades. The finish is three coats of spray Polyurethane Clear Satin. Comments welcome.4 points -

The Few The Proud The Marines This is a second rendition of the famous slogan created for recruitment of Marines. I cut mine from Sapele wood and used the off cut as the top layer for the base. The bottom base is a slab of pine, but I made some slot cuts along the edges to give it some character. Free Pattern:3 points

most of you know i worked out of half a 10 x 20 portable building. i had scroll days and paint days. well we got the other half open for painting but the fumes kept me from scrolling after painting so i bought an $18 4in inline hose fan. now i can do both. i plan to move it to use as a bypass system to keep the paint from building up on the fan when i am done gearing up for next months show. it has worked well enough i am also thinking of putting one in the saw room to help clear floating dust my vac doesn't get so i can stop wearing a mask. hope this might help others. chris3 points

Nothing scares me; I am a teacher

My daughter, Kathleen, is a special needs teacher in a Toronto inner-city school. Her speciality is remedial reading. She has certainly earned this plaque which I recently made for her: Sue Mey designed the pattern. I cut it out of 6mm thick Baltic Birch plywood. I made the backing and the frame out of Walnut.2 points -

I use a thin piece of 1/8" masonite, about 8" by 10", with a saw slot up the middle. On the bottom I have put some small magnets and craft foam to hold it in place. I just slide it on and off as needed. Saves time over trying to find some card stock and packing tape. The masonite is waxed and stock slides over it quite easily.2 points

I'd probably use inlace instead of clay.. no baking.. I always burn food if I bake... so.. I'm sure I'd ruin the earrings.. LOL Inlace2 points

Latest Scroll Saw Shell
barb.j.enders reacted to britetomro for a topic
This is my latest Scroll Saw Shell. The wood used us Sapele and I also used a Hard Maple Veneer as an accent strip between each segment. There are 44 segments total in this shell. The overall measurement are 8" wide by 8" high. The stand was also made from Sapele which were the left over pieces from the blanks used to create the segments. Each segment blank measured approximately 9" wide by 7" deep and 1 3/4" thick. The finish is a spray poly which presently has 8 coats. The photos also show all 44 segments displayed before the gluing process as well as a few of the stages of the glue up. There are many hours of sanding involved with this project and the finish is applied as the shell is being assembled. This piece of art will also be entered into our local fair this July. Thanks for looking.1 point -

There is an old saying "There is never enough time to do it right but always enough time to do it over." I love designing and scrolling signs and Bible verses in Cherry. There is nothing more frustrating than losing a drop out well toward the end of the project. I have learned something that should have been obvious to me. I share it for those who may enjoy the same subject matter. When designing the bridges, try to retain the maximum long grain wood structure. The attached PDF shows script letters (Palace Script font) that have notoriously narrow and fragile bridges that can easily turn your masterpiece into kindling. The first column is an okay way to build your bridges. The second is better with a slight difference that retains more of the long grain in the wood and makes the drop outs just a bit stronger. By changing the location and angle of the bridge, you retain more of the long grain of the wood a d g o q.pdf1 point

I think if it's that far off you're going to need to loosen the bolts that hold the table down and sort of alien it and tighten them back down.. There is not really any adjustment for the table but there is enough slop around those bolt holes that it'll throw that off enough like this.. Had to do this on my DeWalt years ago when I first got it.. or maybe it was the Dremel anyway one of my saws came that way.. I thought I was going to have to send it back but then someone suggested this.. which fixed it..1 point

I agree with JT,Find you a level, look for the set screws.I have had to do this to several of my saws over the yrs,1 point

Is the table level?? Do not just go by markings on the gauge. Next is the blade sitting in the clamps correctly and straight. Are the set screws in the clamps set properly if you know what to look for. ???1 point -

Sounds like fun. Please keep us posted on the progress. I remember reading or watching some place to bake the clay it should be something like a 1/2" thick to keep the wood from warping .1 point -

I live in a much smaller area than you do. Still you have to get your name in early to get a space. Actually the prices are not outrageous, I think the highest I have reserved for this year are around 90.00 a space and I reserve two to three 10x10 spaces. I just don't charge much for my crafts and need to raise it just a little bit. Everything seems to be going up. I sure like your display though. I also make wood puzzles and have not displayed them like you. I just have them in a large plastic tub. I think I need to get them out where they can see them individually. Hope your next events are great. grizz1 point -

I cut this , for my wife, from 1/2 Purple heart...the wood was purchased from Ocooch hardwoods.....I worked a lot of hours using mostly 2/0 & 3/0 FD new spiral blades....finished with a natural stain and spray poly......I think the wood makes this work !......The wife loves it.....I hope pictures show the detail of Fiona's wonderful pattern....Comments welcome....Steve.....I am not good with the tech end of things , my wife just explained to me i did not show two of the detailed pictures....hope i got it right this time....Steve.1 point
