    Had a Request

I was asked if I could make an inlay top for another braided basket. I stack cut the leaves from the top and bottom. Not advocating anything here, but MD is an RX legal state and, well I said sure.

  4. National Donut Day Table Sign Pattern Mmmmm. Mmmm. National Donut Day is the first Friday of June (coming up this Friday), so why not make one of these signs as you sip your cup of coffee (see yesterday's sign) and chomp on a nice chocolate covered donut. I cut mine from sapele wood which gives it that nice chocolate flavor then I added a carefully improvised base of same to bottom it out. Free Pattern:http://baggetta.com/pebooks/puzzle_patterns.htm

I did n ot buy into this tape vs no tape thing either, until I did this cherry clock hand where I ran out of tape part way. I did nothing else to this image.

  8. Wow I used that stuff on this piece and was embarrassed. Over time (about 2 years) that stuff became brittle and the brass pieces fell off the cross as I was showing a potential customer. I swore I would never use that again. It may work on various other materials but be aware on metals to wood. I have switched to epoxy which will stay flexible somewhat and when gluing a movable material as wood is to an immovable such as metal you need something that will not turn brittle.

  11. My Dad's been gone ten years now (effin' cancer....), but he was a Texas history buff. The "Goliad Flag" is one of my very first forays into woodworking, two years ago, but he would've loved it. He was also an Air Force Vietnam Vet, and had some pretty strong opinions on the politics of that fiasco. He loved his coffee (black....which is why I think I may be adopted, since I have never gotten the hang of drinking coffee black), and unfortunately shared a lot of the same sense of humor that I have. Were he still around, I think he would've appreciated these.

  12. If my Dad were still here (he died when I was thirteen -64 years ago), I would give him this: The original design for this was by Sheila Landry and I made modifications to make the island and cabin look like Pellow's Island in Lake Pivabiska. This was Dad's favourite place on earth and he would be pleased to know that I love the island just as much, that I am taking care of it in his name, and that it will, eventually, be passed on at least two further generations.

    Wally Walleye

Walleye is a pattern by David Hunter. 3/16" luan underlayment with BLO finish, #1 Pegas MG. Frames from twisted fence slat. No way to get the corners to match but it is supposed to be rustic.

  17. You asked where maple syrup comes from. The best maple syrup cones from Quebec and, if you think maple bars are good, you should taste a maple sugar pie that was made in Quebec.

    Birch Underlayment

I buy B/BB grade Baltic Birch ply in 5x5 sheets at a local Exotic Lumber store. They stock virtually all thicknesses. 1/4” 5’x5’ runs $30 a sheet. Baltic Birch has more layers than the cheap Birch sold at the box stores.

  20. Fiona is amazing. She sees a knot in a board, and just starts scrolling, next thing you know there is a fish being pulled out a pond by an osprey. No pattern, she “sees” things differently than most of us and draws with her saw blade. Nice job on the Honey Bee!

  21. Thanks. Red Heart, and red oak, with bright brass overlays and red stain glass in the frets of the steps. Made 2 and sold them but took a couple years because of the price I guess. Dirk Boelman pattern. I loved his work.

    Baltic Birch Ply

Likewise I have never seen BB (Baltic Birch) at Home Depot or Lowes. That also goes for products sometimes called Finish Birch and Russian Birch. And I have been in some of these stores in NY, VA, NC, SC, GA, TN, and FL. I get my BB, in 5 x 5 sheets from a specialty lumber store.
