Here are two photos of the same project. Before and after I highlighted it with a propane torch. It is a gift to a police officer. I definitely AM NOT disgracing the American Flag according to the American flag code and, as a military veteran, hold the American flag in deepest respect. The stars, as you notice, are represented with used shell casings from the police officer's service weapon. Approximately 9 3/4" by 17" in 3/4" stock. Thanks for looking and God Bless! I don't see it very often.. I got a couple pieces of it from my brothers mill a couple years ago.. Cuts like butter, LOL.. I'm not sure if I still have some or not.. If so I could probably mail it to you because I just don't use much wood if it's not a real common wood.. I hate retaking photos because I changed up the wood types.. That's why you see me staying with most projects being cherry.. I got a awesome deal years ago on a bunch of cherry lumber.. I'm going out to look and see if I have any... Another wood type similar ( I think ) might be Beech? Others will probably know better than I.. But I have some beech and sassafras and I thought they looked close to the same... Un-finished anyway.. LOL1 point

usually, but not always, the bar code stickers are on the back/bottom side of ply. when i get a large sheet to cut down, ill run a pencil line about every 16" across the 4' so i can tell after cutting which way is up.1 point

Bee on Honeycomb ...my final Fiona Kingdon pattern
Scrolling Steve reacted to Frank Pellow for a topic
I had never even heard of Fiona Kingdon and now, thanks to you I have. Fiona work (both the design and implementation) is amazing and your work on your pattern has inspired me to order two of her patterns. I see that, so far, patterns have been created for only a handful of her patterns. I wonder if patterns will ever be offered for a design as complex as her Border Country.1 point -

Just beautiful Steve! Well done, Thank you for posting, Bob1 point -
Lovely words. Great work, well done. I was not sure about the shape either, does it have any significance with firefighters? Marg1 point

You asked where maple syrup comes from. The best maple syrup cones from Quebec and, if you think maple bars are good, you should taste a maple sugar pie that was made in Quebec.1 point -
Like it, came out great, love the frame wood with the knot in it, great idea to incorporate it in the frame. jim1 point

Birch Underlayment
tomsteve reacted to NC Scroller for a topic
Wood is alive, well before it was cut down. It's color can change in the way is processed/milled and dried or even from minerals in the ground water. Even on solid wood I have seen color variation and rate of absorption on boards 4 less then feet in length. I find slight color variation on all sheets of Baltic Birch and I get the B/BB grade. (B/BB) will have one face that is clear of defects and the backside may have some oval patches.1 point -

Some time ago I started using contact paper rather than the blue painters tape (it's a lot faster to both apply and remove). I then affix my pattern to the contact paper with spray adhesive and rarely have any problem with pattern lifting. A while back (I'm not sure why) applied some clear packing tape on top of the pattern and noticed that fuzzies on the back of a baltic birch project almost disappeared. Just to check, I tried some test patterns (3) to check this out (bb+contact paper+pattern+clear pkg tape). In each case I put the clear pkg tape on only half of the test projects and in each case, the half of each test with clear pkg tape had significantly fewer fuzzies on the back side. Dennis1 point

John you are correct. It is 3/16" Sande Interior underlayment. A 4X8 sheet sell for just over $24.Don't know where I saw birch. I just went out and checked a label.1 point

Birch Underlayment
tomsteve reacted to JTTHECLOCKMAN for a topic
I do not believe that is birch underlayment. Too expensive. They use to sell Luan underlayment. Not sure what that stuff is. It could be Sande wood.1 point -
I played on the New hawk today... put several hundred hours on it today .. or.. maybe that was several hundred it put on me? LOL I made two new car clock patterns per customer request.. ( no pictures yet coming to the bragging section soon though ) Then I went out and cut those and then cut two Honda clocks like the picture below ( Steve Good pattern by the way.... without the clock I should add ) that I sold out of the other day.. I also had about 15-20 clocks and a couple puzzles that needed a finish put on them so I did that too.. ( no pictures of that either.. ) Now that the weather has been a little better and I bought a new / used car so now I hope not to have to walk / push the old car which should give me more scroll sawing time .. maybe I can get something done.. so far this year it seems like everything needs repaired or replaced.. and we seem to be only getting one sunny day a week.. and with all the rain the grass in those 6 rainy days gets about 9 foot tall LOL.. I mowed wet grass most of this evening so I could find my car in the morning.. kid as almost late to school this morning because the grass grew so much I couldn't remember where the car was. ... did I mention that we been getting a lot of rain and the grass just grows and grows.. I finally got the blown head gasket replaced on my lawn tractor late last week.. runs great now.. so I ran it down to my other shop to take off the snow thrower and put the mower on.. all ready to go mow I thought.. but unfortunately I need a new belt now.. Guess maybe tomorrow while I'm in town I'll get a belt.. because mowing 2 acres of lawn with a 21" push mower up hill both directions in the rain twice a week is getting kinda old..1 point
