Ok or a botte of perfume ?
amazingkevin and 4 others reacted to Foxfold for a topic
I did this today as a gift for my friend of 40yrs + for her birthday. Is it ok? or should I get her a bottle of perfume Also, a question for all you more 'experienced than me' people. Do you think I should 'widen' some of the lines on the first cat? I'm not sure that it wouldn't look a little better if the lines were a little wider around the nose, mouth and cheek.. I hated doing this pattern almost as much as the pattern hated me !! This is my 4th attempt at it and I went so slowly that I'm pretty sure that most of you would raise an eyebrow in bafflement. However, it was the only way I could actually do it. It drove me mad !! Don't know why, it looked straight forward enough on paper but I just found it so difficult to cut.5 points -
I haven't had much time for any new projects yet.. well that's sort of a lie.. I've been real busy with several custom orders in the last couple weeks.. Mostly fathers day gives.. I ran a paid ad on FB and Instagram and the sales from this 15 day ad has been kicking my behind, LOL Anyway I squeezed a little time to get this clock made just because I thought it was cool.. Hope everyone is enjoying some saw dust making time..4 points

Thought I was ready to be put out to pasture this arvo. Went to replace the blade in the Ex21, fitted it in the top clamp and I'd be buggered it was to short to fit in the lower clamp. 1st thoughts, " I must of grabbed a broken blade" nope it checked out against another from the packet "Maybe the whole damn packet was short?". Nope it was the same size as an old blade I had handy. Well that was just bloody marvellous, something had to be wrong with the saw, it was all I needed. Then I noticed the tension wheel, arm adjusting wheel's white line had disappeared. Grabbed a tape and sure enough, the front of the arm was 10mm wider apart than then the rear,. I have never had this happen before. The culprit was the Dewalt which I had been using, It's fixed to the same bench. The vibrations must of turned the knob. A sigh of relief, adjust the arms parallel again and of we went. The air was pretty blue by this time3 points -

Just re read your post title, Don't waste the bottle. Have it yourself as a present to yourself, for getting it done on 4th attempt and handed off to your friend. She needn't know how much pain it caused you. bob3 points -

I just got a new Seyco and it is sitting beside the Dewalt but not sharing the bench. There is strange noises from the Dewalt everytime I use the Seyco and I had the short blade scar yesterday. Must be sibling rivalry2 points -

Fraiming Failures

I have been trying to make frames from rough cedar fence stakes as I like the rustic appearance on wildlife and animal cuttings. To begin with the fence stakes are not uniform in thickness as a regular piece of lumber is. I can't plane one side as I have no planer and have no room to put and use one. I made a sled for my table saw which I am convinced is accurate. Everything is aligned with the blade and carefully checked with machinists squares and oversize drafting triangles. Next I use the Craftsman corner clamps. I have had these over 50 years and never doubted their accuracy. Today I checked then for square. Over 3 inches they seem to be off .020 to .025 inches. I did not have my feelers in the shop but comparing it to a micrometer I believe it to be close.I wonder if anyone else uses these clamps and what else do others use? I'm frustrated.1 point -
America Or Bust

America Or Bust Wall Sign Pattern Here's something a bit different following the Columbus and America theme. This is sized for an 8.5 x 11 sheet but cn be resized to make a bigger wall hanging, if you like. It can be cut from 1/4" birch ply and then spray painted black to make a stunning wall silhouette. I realize your situation is a bit different. I was aiming my question at the other hobbyists like me. And, it's hard for me to visualize living in a rural atmosphere. Around here, it's not fun to go anywhere. It takes 2 plus hours just to get out of town. And even then, you're not out of the fray until the next day. It's terrible. Another reason we are looking to relocate.1 point

Yes, I do.. But the place I go is about 30 mile each way.. and good country road almost all the way there.. I get about 1 mile of city drive to get to the place and the city drive isn't even crowded.. I live in Michigan not California .. Government allows me $0.55 a mile for business.. My wife and daughter like to go because they have a couple thrift shops right near by that they like to shop at.. Only takes about 20-25 minutes to get there.. I almost took a job at the place last year.. They hired me but I declined the offer.. since the schedule they hired me for was every Fri-Mon. and the pay was worst then I make just playing around in my shop and my online store, LOL.. Getting up to their top pay would have been more like what I make in the shop and that would take a couple years to get to that plus.. I'd have to spend money on gas etc to get there.. I do very little driving for business.. at best about 800 mile a year..1 point

Who's Watching Whom
barb.j.enders reacted to Frank Pellow for a topic
The majority of this project is not scroll sawing but there is a scroll-sawn element and that element is very important. This is a gift that I am going to give to my wife, Margaret, when she is in the hospital for removal of her thyroid on June 7th. The gift is going to be a framed tile of a Whisky Jack (known to most non-Canadians as a Gray Jay) entitled ‘Who’s Watching Whom’ and I am going to feature the title. (The tiles comes from Motawi Tileworks and it is based on art by Charlie Harper). To that end, I am cutting a title out of a little bit of the Wenge that I recently purchased. The colour and texture of the wood are both a good match for the tile. The font is an Arts and Crafts font that I found an example of on the internet and that I modified slightly. I think this would look good framed with some weathered cedar from the old play structure that I took down a couple of weeks ago. I used this mock-up to help me decide: I purchased the tile from Motawi Tileworks in Michigan and the artist is Charles Harper. I tried a few different stains in order to a get a good match for the ivory colour in the tile: This colour is to be used on the lettering’s backer board. I made the frame using a variation of my “standard” Rosseter-Pellow frame. Here is a photo: I’m fairly certain that Margaret is going to be surprised and happy with this gift.1 point -
If it is as good as it looks, it is the best deal I have seen on a Hegner... Coarse it is 240 miles from me and my tool budget is broke, been tricking out my table saw to make it safer.... This is in Seattle, Wa. https://seattle.craigslist.org/see/tls/d/seattle-hegner-scroll-saw/6905988372.html1 point

Wrong end of the Country for me. I don't buy unless I can try, and the air fare would kill the deal. Charley1 point

Leave it be like everyone else has said, it looks great Sometimes a pattern will get me wrapped around the axle too, no rhyme or reason for it that I can tell. Murphy may have been looking over your shoulder at the time, and if so be glad that is all that happened,1 point

Hmmm... $12 a 5' x 5' 1/8" sheet for me.. I've often thought about buying bulk for better pricing and chunk it up and sell it online.. Maybe I need to start another store online for scroll saw goods.. LOL1 point
-
I also should mention.. You might not have broke the clamp.. it may very well have just fallen apart.. If you can find all the pieces you may be able to put it back together.. also.. they sometimes will have the individual pieces available.. and might be able to buy all the pieces and put a new clamp together.. Just a thought..1 point
-
Since you said it exploded into pieces.. I'm assuming it have the old style quickset ll blade clamps on it.. They are no longer available.. That said.. New packs of replacements show up on eBay quite often.. also.. watch garage sales for used parts saws etc.. many times a saw will be lightly used and only $25 - 50. if you get the right model saw they used that clamp on both top and bottom so then you'd have a replacement and a spare, LOL There is also a guy online that sells NOS Delta parts.. you might check with him.. Site is www.mikestools.com If I remember correctly since its been about 15 years ago I restored my fathers old saw that he wore out.. and he was a source for parts for the old saw..I keep that old saw around just because it's his first saw and it is a keepsake of one of his favorite saws that I keep in memory of him.. Best of luck finding one.. You'll find one sooner or later but you might want to just get a new saw.. since parts are getting hard to find for them..1 point

I am in need of sassafras or something similar in color/grain
SCROLLSAW703 reacted to RangerJay for a topic
A few years back I made some key-hooks from a board that I had trouble identifying - after some research it turned out to be Sassafras - if I am remembering right it was very soft to cut (left fuzzies on the edges), had a bit of a natural greenish colour, was noticeably fragrant and looked like Oak when stained - it was fine in the end product - but I didn't feel it was different enough to seek it out in the future for any kind of unique or exceptional look. Your photo does not show the glass. The frames I normally use come from Scandanavia and they don't actually have glass, just a glass effect plastic sheet so I normally leave it out. If I could I would check where my friend was going to hang the present, and I would check if the angles from nearby windows caused reflection on the glass, I would leave out the glass to prevent reflections. If my Dad were still here (he died when I was thirteen -64 years ago), I would give him this: The original design for this was by Sheila Landry and I made modifications to make the island and cabin look like Pellow's Island in Lake Pivabiska. This was Dad's favourite place on earth and he would be pleased to know that I love the island just as much, that I am taking care of it in his name, and that it will, eventually, be passed on at least two further generations.1 point -
Dang, some really neat stuff here. I don't have much in the line of critters. I have made my grandson a couple wood trucks, not critters. I did make him this dragon, he likes dragons. It is called the Time Keeper or something and was suppose to hold a clock, but for some reason I pictured him holding a crystal ball.1 point
