    Bubble Gum

I was finally able to finish this last night. I did this in solid 3/4" Walnut, with semi poly finish and I really like the way it came out. I think I might try it in Oak and Walnut together. This is a free pattern from Scrollbench.com Thanks for looking

  3. I put these together for a little scroll saw competition. As luck would have it, i took first place. I made these pokemon using Padauk, Yellow-Heart, Maple, bloodwood, poplar and wenge for the backer; No stains or paints involved. These range from roughly 3" - 5"; I attached magnets to the back and have them displayed on my fridge.

    Retired?

Retired: Not My Problem Table Sign Pattern I had a job once, I think....Many years ago in a galaxy far far away. I've been retired for about 15 years and loving every minute of it. When you think back on it, it's funny how many problems you were involved in or had to solve over the years. Now I can do pretty much whatever I want. Don't be afraid of retirement. This sign says it all. I cut mine from cherry and mounted it on an improvised top layer of cherry from the off cut. I sat the whole thing on a thin slab of sapele to finish it off. Alex Fox With a Twist

I decided to make one of Alex Fox’s baskets with a Kokopelli inlay. The basket itself is Baltic Birch, the inlay is from a scrap piece of lacewood. I think it really makes this basket more interesting.

  14. I use Peachtree bits along with MLCS bits and to me yes a complete set is a must if woodworking in a shop. I have a few complete sets and have sets up to 4" When using bigger bits you need a drill press and you need to slow it down. I do buy individual ones in sizes I use most and I have carbide ones in the 1-3/8" size because I drill billiard balls for clock inserts and that dulls a bit quickly. I have learned to sharpen them too which helps prolong the life. I would not be without them. Holesaws are fine but I usually do not want a hole to go all the way through the back side if possible. Same with scrolling them.

It would be worth visiting small local machine shops. To see if they could duplicate the part for you. They may ask for a drawing.

There seems to be a few staying safe patterns just recently so here are a couple that I've done. I have two very good friends, one is a baker and the other a chocolatier.

  20. I have always loved going to stores like Goodwill and Salvation Army where I got into the habit of buying old wooden plates. When designs are cut in them they hang flat on the wall and make great Plaques. They were easy to cut because of the raised edge you can hold onto.

  21. This post will have a few pics. Hope you all won’t be too bored. I had an Amish company build and deliver the basic structure itself. I had them build it 6” taller than their standard height, with insulated doors and windows, and with closed cell insulation. It is 12’ x 24’ and a 5000 BTU window AC keeps it plenty comfortable in summer and a 110v oil radiator keeps it warm in winter. The interior was just the exposed spray foam and I covered the walls with OSB plywood and the ceiling with Luan plywood. I trimmed it out with whatever 1x4’s I had had around and ripped them down to 1x3 and used the cuts to trim corners. I call my trim work “tree house” carpentry, but I wanted a rustic look. All of my tool racks and cabinets are hanging on French cleats to allow for modular changes with the exception of the peg boards , which will ultimately be replaced. One regret? I wish I had made it bigger. Thanks for looking.

  33. I found this Gary MacKay pattern in an old SSWC magazine and decided to get my feet wet in intarsia. I have only applied one coat of Watco's natural. I can't decide if I want to shoot it with clear lacquer. Also, it sure would be nice to get hold of some wood that has color/grain that matches. I don't know how the writer did it. Oh well....... I still have to get some black felt to line the drawers and top compartment with.

  34. WOW!! That turned out really nice... I have yet tried intarsia.. keep saying I'm going to do it this year and then the year slips by.. LOL About every time I cut a new to me project.. I always find something I'll do different the next time.. so as others have said don't be hard on yourself.. Thanks for showing this project.. Lucky I got to see it.. I don't come to this section very often.. I always seem to gravitate to the general section.. sometimes I forget I post some of my work here then forget to come back to thank the ones that commented on it..

  35. Sorry I don't have a good picture showing the foot pedal foot lift. It was a metal pedal mounted to the stand under the saw that had a cable attached to it that ran up through sets of pulleys and attached to the back of the upper liftable arm. When the upper blade was released you could step on the pedal and that would lift the upper arm leaving both your hands free to insert the blade into a new hole.

    Star Light Star Bright

Star Light Star Bright Table Sign Pattern "Star Light, star bright, The First Star I see tonight. I wish I may, I wish I might, Have the wish I wish tonight" This popular anonymous poem has been recited for years in hopeful dreams. Don't really need the entire poem to get the feel, as this sign suggests. Cut this for a child and I'm sure they will recognize it. I cut mine from sapele and mounted it on an improvised top layer of same attached to a maple bottom. Download from Free Pattern Page:

    EX19 VS Scroll saw

I just don't know what Ray is thinking, trying to sell a non-supported saw for $500. I'm kind of hoping he was on vacation and a employee did this without his knowledge. Ray has repeatedly said that parts were not available for the older saws, so I can't imagine this one is an exception. For a bit more money, a EX16 could be purchased . . . . once they are back in stock. Or a New DW788 complete with warranty. I was very surprised to see some of the older saws listed on the site, especially at those prices. I would not risk buying anything earlier than the Purple EX-21, and especially for those prices. Holey moley! ps. I'm sorry if all this seems a little harsh, I get a little hot about stuff like this, similar to when I see listing on Craigslist asking $700 for an old scroll saw worth $50, or anything that is really out of whack, intended to rip off folks that don't know the value or lack thereof. So, that said, I purchased my EX from Ray and greatly respect him, however, this feels unethical, like preying on those that don't understand the relative value of stuff. When I send someone to Seyco saying, "hey, I know these guys and they will treat you right", then see something like this, I feel a little betrayed.
