    "53 Cadillac Convertible

A few years ago I was at a local car show and was impressed with a 1953 Cadillac convertible. The yellow color and all that chrome really looked great. I found my original picture and started my pixel gobbling designing. I eliminated the shadow on the front but added more lines than needed. (Started taking them out as I started cutting, things got a little thin!) Some of the reflection on the chrome threw me a little too. I always cut the text first in case I screw it up. I did! The "3" upper internal loop was a little too fancy and it fell out... Tried, but couldn't glue it back in. Started again and now have a piece for another project. Font is English 157 BT TTF. The plaque cutting is 1/8" BBPW with a 1/4" backer and is 18" x 12". Love my UPS store for enlargement/copies $1.36 for 4 on gloss card stock. Time to give the cars a rest. Working on a portrait for my sister and still have several pieces of 1/4 and 1/2" stock for boxes I need to use up.

  4. This took quite some time but well worth it. Charles Hand just simply makes incredible patterns. I especially like how the connection between leopard and the ground is accomplished here. It just has a great 3 D effect here. So many other patterns like this and they just don't seem life-like. Anyway, this was a blast. No straight on shots of the whole piece per Hand's request

    Nativity

Nativity pattern by Steve Good. Each figure is three layers of 1/4” woods.they are about 6” tall. Woods used are Mahogany for the Shepherd Boy, dog and donkey. Aspen for the Angel and sheep, Walnut for Joseph, Cherry for Mary, Yellowheart for the child and one Wiseman, Purpleheart and Redheart for the other two Wisemen, Red Oak for the Camel and Ash for the palm tree. The manger is 1/2” laminated pine and the roof is 1/8” slices from a construction grade 2x4. I wanted to age the manger, but I don’t like to stain. I thought about burning with a propane torch, but I don’t like that look. I found a product at Home Depot that ages wood. It brush’s on clear and in about 30 minutes the wood is gray. I think I like the look! Since the figures are cut from 1/4” wood, I stacked two layers of hardwoods and made two sets. The figures were soaked in my 50/50 mixture of boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits. This brings out the natural color and grain of the wood. Then when dry, I topcoated with Deft semi gloss spray lacquer. The first picture is no finish.

  7. Guitar Pick Tray Pattern I needed a container of some sort to hold my assortment of picks so that I could quickly get one when I needed it. Up to now I had them scattered all over my desk. So I decided to build this little box in the shape of a guitar pick to fill my needs. It will hold quite a few picks (standard or thumb and finger). I made a couple of them (one larger than the other) and one of them has an inlay in the bottom, which I explain how to make. You don't have to use this for picks, of course. Might make a nice little candy dish. You can download the free pattern from my FREE PATTERN PAGE: BUILD VIDEO I've also done a step by step video which shows me making the tray and explains how to do a simple wood inlay, in case you have not done one before. You can see the video on My YouTube Channel

  10. I have found that the labels DO stick extremely well. I had to soak in mineral spirits more than once and still had to scrape it off. Didn't think of the best gun. I do use clear contact shelf paper but I always sand first.

  11. Cut 4 leash holders this morning from orders I took at my event this week. I'll be charging extra for the bull dog puppies version in the future. LOL These are drying and then I'll attach the hooks and drill the holes for wall mounting (I'm providing wall anchors). 4 hook options/colors (shown on the dachshund)

  12. I made the pattern from a cartoon I saw. A Halligan bar is what firefighters use for forced entry. Its like a crow bar on steroids. I stack cut this with the 4mm BB on top and the 5mm white plastic on the bottom. I have never done a saying by starting at one end and working through. It seems to go quicker if I do random letters. What I found with this one is I did all the dots over the I's, then all the a's, then all the e's, before I copped on to what I was doing.

  17. https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/forums/topic/34025-famous-people-copy-rights/ I have to say the last few days I must be reading a whole different set of threads being posted. No where did I see any mocking of this post or calling out of anyone. Just a couple questions that got answered very nicely. Not sure how many people here sell on Etsy, Ebay or even their own web sites but i bet it is not many. Copyright laws are no joke and have been a thorn to all who have done any type crafts over the years. Just like these selling sites that want in on the tax money they were losing so do the copyright enforcers. They see an avenue that can generate money or loss of it because of the internet sales that have surpassed the brick and mortar avenues. So the uptick of enforcement. Iggy got to see this in person at a med sized show and I have too many years ago. But everyone knew that Disney, Harley, Sports both college and pro protect their names and brands. This has not changed for 35 years that I have been doing this. Famous people may have hired some company to go after their share. With cell phones and cameras all around us everywhere we go every day of the week. We need to be extra careful when it comes to selling anything. Who knows what is going to happen with all these Garage sale sites showing up on FaceBook. That can be the next attack. So you have been warned there too. But knock off of brands has been a battle that just keeps growing and growing. Don't get caught in the middle and you should be fine. I can not answer to those that sell on those sites and to what words are taboo or not but Kevin has given out this heads up and we thank him. Iggy we thank you too for bringing this up and actually giving a first hand posting.

Well just a FYI I use Duct brand.. don't usually have a problem with it.. but on occasion I have had... and it must be one of two things.. A) the board you're sticking it too or B) bad section of the shelf liner..I say this because I had a issue once and was about half way through a roll.. not a problem for the first half.. and not a problem after that one project... This has happen a couple times for me like this.. out of those times 2 was sticking to BB ply.. I thought it was something to do with the ply.. but then it did it once on solid piece of Cherry lumber once too.. SO... your guess is as good as mine.. Still... from all the projects I've used it on... it's nicer to use than tape or any other product I've used or tried so far.. Just once in a great while.. It wants to remind me how bad some of the other process's work, LOL

  21. Day 3 of my mega event was exciting in that at least 2 vendor booths were "raided" by the authorities, Homeland Security oversees trademark infringement and they confiscated all materials from the vendors selling NFL and college team merchandise. Now I wonder how hefty the fines will be. I know one of the vendors as we see each other at a lot of events, not sure if he'll share with me what happens, but I'm certainly curious as I hear rumors of $10,000 fines and some have said it can be $10,000 per item (which would be extreme, but hey, the NFL, etc don't mess around). Bottom line, DON'T RISK IT... it's not worth it. This one vendor was displaying NFL team logos, very nicely done, woodwork. They didn't confiscate his automotive company logos... It was funny, when I was roaming the venue the first day and saw his stuff I almost asked if he was licensed for that and now I'm so glad I didn't because he'd think I ratted him out. LOL!!!

    Indian Logo

Pattern is off the internet. Total dimensions 20X8". 3/16 Luan. #1 Pegas MG blade. It is not complete. The little whatchanacallits in the J, d and a are missing. I have to glue them in but I have to have someone else do it. My neuropathy makes my hands tremor preventing me from doing it.

  23. These old cars, an trucks, was made when you could tell a Ford from a Chev from a Buick from a Pontiac etc going away from you at the old speed limit of 65 mph. Now I can’t tell one from another setting still without reading the name on it. Nice job on it!

  26. I kinda see both sides.. on one hand I understand the people copyrighting things because it protects their logo or whatever from being used.. Being small business I don't like people copying my items I've designed and sell either.. But I can deal with that more than those folks that go steeling my photos from my websites because I took time to take nice photos with many angles etc.. and put them up on their own site selling the same things.. This was a big thing a few years back and probably still is.. I've found sellers in other countries having websites using my photos and my product titles and descriptions.. many sellers back then were watermarking their photos... but google kicks you out of searches doing that... Not much one can do but report it.. so I mean.. I do understand the stuff.. I've been told a lot of times about my car clocks are safe from it if I'm not using their logos.. The couple of clocks etsy did take down from me was ones with logos.. but they never touched the others that didn't have logos on it.. Now.. understanding the logo thing because they have a artist create a logo for them etc and that is their trademark.. I get that.. but one that gets me is.. phrases..that are trademarked.. really? it's just words..yeah some goofball made up a phrase or word and some rich person decided to copyright / trademark it..

  34. I have sealed the BB with shellac on both sides. I attached my photo that I want cut both front and back of BB (3/8" may change this to 1/4") with 3M 77 adhesive. I then sealed the photo with satin lacquer both sides and looks good. I then placed purple (low tack) tape over the front and back to protect the photo from scratching. I then sprayed adhesive to back of pattern sheet and placed on top of photo. I thought the tape would both protect the back and control the fuzzies on the back. Not enough as it turns out and I can not sand because of the print on the back. When I went to pull the pattern off and the tape in the back it pulled the photo paper apart with it in some spots. Not good. What Steve says he does is first he is not doing a 2 sided print so that is no big deal. But he attaches print to good BB and the attaches the pattern to a seperate 1/8" piece of BB and then sandwiches them together and wraps clear packing tape and cuts each piece out. I tried to cut rows out and then go back and cut the pieces from each row. To me made it easier this way. I did not think that packing tape would hold the entire puzzle together long enough to get them all cut out because as you cut the sides away there is nothing holding together top and bottom. Thus my method. Now what I am going to try next is use some very low tack tape used in the musical industry when repairing guitars. Also bought some poster board to use on the back to take up for the fuzzies. Will have to see how this goes. If not then I may have to try his method. Just taping the ends will not work because as I said you cut the center pieces there is nothing holding the sandwich together. His method may work and thus that is why I am asking if anyone has used it and to give me a report. Progress noted.

  44. A big part of what I made went to family members. The paddle I once made I gave to my younger Son who at the time had 2 Daughters and 1 Son. His older Daughter kept that paddle and sent the picture to me on my Face Book Page. She got lots of comments when she posted it on her page. The last time I looked it was up in the hundreds.

  48. Big 3 day event every year in a nearby beach town. Always held July 2, 3, 4. This year landing right in the middle of a week. But then again, so was last year and I did very well my first year at this event. But this year it has been well below. Looking forward to the next couple of years when July 4th falls on Saturday, then Sunday, then Monday making for long weekends. Day 1, sold 35 versus 43 last year Day 2, sold 10, very slow sales then pop-up storms showed up, which was great as the heat was unbearable and it gave me an excuse to pack up and come home. Day 3 coming up. Big parade, then big crowd. We'll see if anyone is spending money today. All vendors are wondering what's going on. Not just this event but many others. Plenty of people, but very little spending. Good news is the new leash holders are getting a lot of attention and I took orders for 4 of them Tuesday. We'll see how the final day goes...
    1 point
  49. Hey Gang, Exhausting 3 days. Day 1 was "OK" as reported, day 2 was extreme heat followed by storms causing me to shut down at 2pm. Counting it as a total wash-out. Day 3 yesterday was solid. Finished the 3 days selling 86 puzzles, down from 132 last year, but right at the 43 or 44 per day not counting the wash-out day. Next year will be better with July 4th being on Saturday, the event will be Thursday, Friday, Saturday whereas this year it was Tue, Wed, Thu. The new leash holders were well received and I took orders for 6 of them to make. I'm able to offer 4 different color hooks... Brass colored cup hook or can go with "J" hook in silver, antique brass or black.
