  1. A few years ago I was at a local car show and was impressed with a 1953 Cadillac convertible. The yellow color and all that chrome really looked great. I found my original picture and started my pixel gobbling designing. I eliminated the shadow on the front but added more lines than needed. (Started taking them out as I started cutting, things got a little thin!) Some of the reflection on the chrome threw me a little too. I always cut the text first in case I screw it up. I did! The "3" upper internal loop was a little too fancy and it fell out... Tried, but couldn't glue it back in. Started again and now have a piece for another project. Font is English 157 BT TTF. The plaque cutting is 1/8" BBPW with a 1/4" backer and is 18" x 12". Love my UPS store for enlargement/copies $1.36 for 4 on gloss card stock. Time to give the cars a rest. Working on a portrait for my sister and still have several pieces of 1/4 and 1/2" stock for boxes I need to use up.

  2. My friend Peggy West created a chalk drawing of a plane and gave it to me as a gift recently. It is now hanging in my Woodworking Shed in a frame that I made out of pine lumber. The frame itself is very simple, but it became special when I cut out some tools, painted them black, and glued them to the frame. I found the templates for the tools in the Ornaments for Charity "book". They were placed there by 'Dan' in 2010.

  3. This took quite some time but well worth it. Charles Hand just simply makes incredible patterns. I especially like how the connection between leopard and the ground is accomplished here. It just has a great 3 D effect here. So many other patterns like this and they just don't seem life-like. Anyway, this was a blast. No straight on shots of the whole piece per Hand's request

  4. I took a break from the small plaques that I was doing and worked on some cornhole boards. My arm was killing me by the time I finished these. I now officially hate making these things now. So, if anyone asks me to make one for them., THEY ARE GONNA PAY A PREMIUM. I may have pushed one of them but he are the pics of the ones o have made. My son's colts boards, the vape shop I go to., and my nephew the doctor.

    Floorboards

I have been given several lengths of laminated flooring boards & decided to have a go & try to cut something with them .I picked this pattern as it was fairly simple just in case it did not work out. I found it cut nice & clean with no tear outs etc ,but also I went through more blades than I normally do.

Pattern is off the internet. Total dimensions 20X8". 3/16 Luan. #1 Pegas MG blade. It is not complete. The little whatchanacallits in the J, d and a are missing. I have to glue them in but I have to have someone else do it. My neuropathy makes my hands tremor preventing me from doing it.

    Nativity

Nativity pattern by Steve Good. Each figure is three layers of 1/4” woods.they are about 6” tall. Woods used are Mahogany for the Shepherd Boy, dog and donkey. Aspen for the Angel and sheep, Walnut for Joseph, Cherry for Mary, Yellowheart for the child and one Wiseman, Purpleheart and Redheart for the other two Wisemen, Red Oak for the Camel and Ash for the palm tree. The manger is 1/2” laminated pine and the roof is 1/8” slices from a construction grade 2x4. I wanted to age the manger, but I don’t like to stain. I thought about burning with a propane torch, but I don’t like that look. I found a product at Home Depot that ages wood. It brush’s on clear and in about 30 minutes the wood is gray. I think I like the look! Since the figures are cut from 1/4” wood, I stacked two layers of hardwoods and made two sets. The figures were soaked in my 50/50 mixture of boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits. This brings out the natural color and grain of the wood. Then when dry, I topcoated with Deft semi gloss spray lacquer. The first picture is no finish.

  11. Cut 4 leash holders this morning from orders I took at my event this week. I'll be charging extra for the bull dog puppies version in the future. LOL These are drying and then I'll attach the hooks and drill the holes for wall mounting (I'm providing wall anchors). 4 hook options/colors (shown on the dachshund)

  12. I made the pattern from a cartoon I saw. A Halligan bar is what firefighters use for forced entry. Its like a crow bar on steroids. I stack cut this with the 4mm BB on top and the 5mm white plastic on the bottom. I have never done a saying by starting at one end and working through. It seems to go quicker if I do random letters. What I found with this one is I did all the dots over the I's, then all the a's, then all the e's, before I copped on to what I was doing.

Picture 1: I'm cutting this two up on 3/16" Luan ply. The pattern is mounted on the wood with Duck clear shelf liner. After cutting about 25% of the pattern I gave up. The pattern kept releasing from the wood. I spent more time with Scotch tape than I did cutting. Picture 2: I started over again. This time I had the brilliant idea to copy the pattern on to Avery adhesive back label stock. It held beautifull. No liftin, just good cutting. A real pleasure. Picture 3: Dang, the pattern won't release. I'm afraid to soak it with mineral spirits as I have no idea how the Avery adhesive will react. Will it turn out to be a mess? Don't know. Sooo, Picture 3: Start removing wearing magnifiers using Xacto knife and tweezers. The pattern would split. The top layer coming off and the adhesive base left to be scraped off carefull trying not to break the very small parts of the cutting. Picture 4: TWO and ONE HALF hours later. Success at last. I'm not knocking the shelf liner or the Avery label. Just saying how it worked for me. I use both items. However, I think the next thing I cut like this is to cement the pattern directly to the wood and release with mineral spirits. I have not done that before but I remember several scrollers doing it that way.

  18. I fell in love with the 53 Cad years ago. I found a beautiful one that had been "street-rodded" with all updated drivetrain and accessories but there was no way I could afford the price. So, your picture will have to suffice. Great job. Thanks for posting.

  22. I have had a few Dead Heads suggest that I should scroll something with a “3 Finger Jerry” theme. I figured since I have been on a box kick that I’d give it a try. So there you have it; I made an image based from an X-ray of a Dead guy’s hand. The box top and base are African Rosewood, the sides cherry. (For those that may not know, the late Jerry Garcia, guitarist for the Grateful Dead band, lost most of a finger when he was a kid due to a hatchet accident with his brother and was often referred to as “3 Finger Jerry”)

  23. Guitar Pick Tray Pattern I needed a container of some sort to hold my assortment of picks so that I could quickly get one when I needed it. Up to now I had them scattered all over my desk. So I decided to build this little box in the shape of a guitar pick to fill my needs. It will hold quite a few picks (standard or thumb and finger). I made a couple of them (one larger than the other) and one of them has an inlay in the bottom, which I explain how to make. You don't have to use this for picks, of course. Might make a nice little candy dish. You can download the free pattern from my FREE PATTERN PAGE: BUILD VIDEO I've also done a step by step video which shows me making the tray and explains how to do a simple wood inlay, in case you have not done one before. You can see the video on My YouTube Channel

  24. The way its written up, don't think there is a problem. Just 6 million of one insurance and 12 million of another. Along with the $100,000 up front. All I have to do is price each piece at $10,000. Break even of the up front money in 10 sales, and the rest is gravy! By the way does someone sell gold sheets I can scroll on? RJF

Nice job, that stuff sure is hard on blades. I did a room with laminate flooring and it managed to dull two carbide miter saw blades in a very short time.

Very nice cutting. I cut some of that back when, it actually "filed" the teeth off the blades I was using. If I were to do it again I think I would use some of the used blades from regular wood scrolling

  41. What I look forward too the most is to spend time in and on the water at our island in Lake Pivabiska. The photo that I am attaching features canoeing. There are photos of me in two of my canoes with two of my grandchildren (Isla age 4 and Ethan age 2). The scroll sawn part was designed by Timothy (with a few design changes by me). In about a month Ethan, who is now 17, and I will be going on a 5 night canoe trip.

Nice cutting Les. You almost have the timber covered in blue tape, so just add a bit more and cover the whole face. Glue the pattern onto the tape. This my SOP. I just use a glue stick to fix the pattern to the tape,
