I know many of you are fans of Sue Mey’s Patterns. I saw elsewhere today she is offering a 20% discount on her site for most all patterns except for the “Special Offers” section. She had to have hand surgery two months ago and is still recovering. She has at least another month of recovery to go so her ability to create new things is limited or non-existent right now due to this. I was thinking of getting a couple patterns mainly to give her the business right now while she is laid up. I thought others here might like to support her right now, and get the discount. A sin-win for Sue and us. Here is what she noted earlier in regards to the discount. ”Thank you for the support of my website and the many friendly emails in the last two months since my hand surgery. Progress has been slow but I was warned that it will be a full three months before positive results are on the cards. It seems many people are starting to make Christmas projects and are asking for a discount offer on Christmas patterns. So for the next 10 days, until July 19, there is a 20% discount available for every order placed and not just patterns from the Holidays>Christmas section. It applies to all patterns, tutorials, and even Gift certificates - only the 'Special Offers' category is excluded. To qualify for the discount, enter JULY19 (case sensitive) in the voucher code area during checkout and click 'apply' once.” Her site for anyone not familiar is here (all patterns are digital downloads):https://www.scrollsawartist.com/6 points

Baseball Ribbon Holder
Lucky2 and 2 others reacted to don in brooklin on for a topic
We have 2 seasons with our Grandsons. Hockey and Baseball. We have 2 Grandsons playing rep baseball all over southern Ontario and they are doing quite well. The request came for a ribbon holder for baseball only as the hockey ones are full. He is my new design. The pattern on the left is a modified Steve Good Pattern. I think they will get a kick out of their numbers and team logo. In order to hold up I use key holes. I give them instructions and the wall plugs.3 points -

These are photos, that I have taken, and turned into puzzles. They are from Lake of the Woods, ON. We have a large cruiser boat that we can go exploring the lake with. Thsi past weekend we saw moose swimming across from one island to another, two large turtles, a buck, and watched a beaver grooming itself on a rock.3 points -

NHL/MLB Logos
Lucky2 and one other reacted to Dad_Tech77 for a topic
Hi All First post showing some recent work here. Since we are a large sport loving family outside of Philly, and since I just started back with scrollsawing, here are a couple of my recent projects. Why a Bruins logo you may ask? Because I am a huge Bruins fan since I was very young (My kids hate me for it!! LOL) (These are just to hang in my office and not for sale) Any feedback would be greatly appreciated Thank you Ed2 points -

Ha! If the amount of space one's wood takes up, I am a lot richer in wood than @oldhudson! Coarse, I only have a tiny amount of wood but the way I organize things, my tiny amount takes up a whole lot more space.... I even build a cart like his, it over there some where under those pieces of scrap wood.....2 points

Picture Frame Embelished with Scroll-sawn Tools
Lucky2 and one other reacted to Frank Pellow for a topic
My friend Peggy West created a chalk drawing of a plane and gave it to me as a gift recently. It is now hanging in my Woodworking Shed in a frame that I made out of pine lumber. The frame itself is very simple, but it became special when I cut out some tools, painted them black, and glued them to the frame. I found the templates for the tools in the Ornaments for Charity "book". They were placed there by 'Dan' in 2010.2 points -
Pegas Blades??
OCtoolguy and one other reacted to scrollingforsanity for a topic
Purchased Pegas #5 from Qetna about three months ago or so and they were the newer batch. no problems. I do have some with the notch from last year and have not had one of them break. ( yet ) Have not noticed the bad tooth on those. Should have no problems getting the good blades now. grizz2 points -

Pegas Blades??
NC Scroller reacted to kmmcrafts for a topic
Just thought I'd let everyone know that I sent a message to BW last night with my order number and the info needed to prove that I bought the blades from them.. They returned message this afternoon saying they was sending out 2 gross of new blades right away.. I guess that means I have to take back the negative comments I've said about BW.. I don't like ordering from them because they take forever to get here.. compared to DnD.. But then.. DnD also gives good customer service and they have advantage over BW because they are in the U.S. and BW is Canada.. Anyway, I'm happy to throw these blades in the recycle bin.. Thanks everyone for all the comments..1 point -
I buy my wood per project, then the left overs will save for other small projects. A lot of my work isn’t scroll saw, but some furniture pieces and other odds and ends stuff, RJ1 point

Hi Bill: The only way this topic would get heated is if someone talks about their designer firewood I'm sure WE have all been there Fab4 BTW, I buy what I need most of the time - I do get freebies from time to time1 point

I get a lot of my lumber from my brothers mill up the road.. But most times I don't get to pick and choose the species.. and it's usually green so I bring it home and sticker it out in my old shop.. I've only been getting wood from him for about 1-2 years now and what I got a couple years ago is finally drying out that I can use it.. Most of it is Cherry, Walnut. Ash, Spalted Maple, Hard Maple, and a few odds and ends of various species.. Before getting lumber from my brother I just bought it since at the time I didn't have my big bandsaw to resaw it and also didn't have a planer and his lumber is rough cut.. I still buy a lot of wood since I cannot pick and choose and since most of what I have is still needing drying out.. Our local LLJohnson workbench store runs a wood expo show every Sept.. great deals on lumber during this time so I buy the bulk of my lumber during this event since it's a good 30+ % off normal pricing.. So I typically spend around $800 + or - on lumber and BB ply at this show.. every year I get busier and end up either running out or very close to that before the show comes up so every year I buy a little more lumber, LOL.. I try my best to not need to buy any more lumber until the big sales event.. somehow.. I managed to stretch it the last two years with the help of some of my brothers dried stash of lumber.. and only needing a couple of boards from his stash.. He has two huge barns full of dried out lumber that he has pulled off the mill to use as projects over the years.. and now he is about retirement age.. tells me I just need to come get most that stuff because he'll never use it in his lifetime, LOL Most the lumber I get from him is what is rejected / cutoffs from the grade lumber buyer / inspector.. They have certain specs they have to go by and I think a board has to be 100% clear of any knots etc splits..what have you and they have to get at least a 8 ft clear board maybe it's 6ft? not sure.. but anyway they cut off the ends to get a board they need.. one end might have a knot at the 6-8ft mark even though the board might be a 12 -14 ft.. they cut that off to get their clear board.. and leave whats left behind.. My brother doesn't mess with it and just burns it in his wood burner.. if I don't take it..1 point

I get my wood from a saw mill about 15 miles from me. I keep a supply of different types. They sale all kinds most 4/4.1 point

I order bb in bulk, usually 45ea 12x12x1/8, or 1/4 - they come in a box easy to store hardwood I order as needed if I have an idea, not all ideas turn out worthy of being called a project, but typically 4-6 boards from ocooch at a time Poplar I get at home Depot if needed, like for kids puzzles1 point -

SCROLLSAW703 reacted to Bill WIlson for a topic
Hard to imagine this getting heated, but stranger things.... Anyway, I usually have wood on hand. My circumstances probably aren't typical. I have access to more than a thousand board feet of white oak, cherry and maple lumber that was cut from my father-in-law's farm several years ago. My BIL & I share it. If I want to use a different species, I buy it locally and usually buy some extra, so I have it for future projects. I keep some in my shop, but my space is limited. The bulk of the lumber is stored in the barn and wagon shed, which is on my in-laws property, just across the road from my house.1 point -

The ONLY one that I know about is the one you are talking about. With the downsizing of S.A.W. and the reduction of people who are willing to take on one of these we are down to 1. I have never been to this one but was to the ones they had in Plattsville Wi. and they were fun, interesting and educational ( classes). The Woodworking shows come to KC every year but I have had to work or been sick for the last 6 years and have not made any yet. I live in Wichita. Fredfret1 point

Best new saw if price no object

I do not say anything when my wife wants something for her Husqvarna embroidery machine or quilting things. It works the same for my tools. I have looked at all the machines discussed and really thought about the Pegas but just do not see a big difference for what I do. My Hegner is still a great machine.1 point -

Oohh Boy.. her site is like a candy store to me.. I use to get her and Steve Good's email updates.. but all of a sudden they stopped.. well not really.. somehow they keep going into my spam folder that I rarely check.. I've set up my email program to accept the emails.. but only a couple came through as they should and back to the spam folder they go again.. Anyway, Thank you for the heads up on this..I've got some patterns on my wish list on her site.. probably a good time to make the wish list become a reality1 point

Summertime Fun - Scroll Saw Challenge
ChelCass reacted to RabidAlien for a topic
Just got back from a long 4th of July weekend road-trip....drove from Austin Tx to Pensacola Fl, turned out to be around 11 hours going, 13 returning (hit an interstate shutdown in Lake Charles, LA, that had I-10 completely closed and all traffic routed to the I-610 bypass....took us 30 minutes to go 3/4 mile before we could exit and take back roads...through questionable parts of town...you know you're in the wrong area when the church has bars on the windows). Oceans/beaches aren't really my thing, so I probably won't do any beach-themed pieces (gimme mountains, forests...places you can go from hotel to car without dropping two pounds of water weight from the humidity...I sweated like a politician in a church with bars on the windows). For me...summer is outdoor fun, and one of my fondest memories of summer camp as a kid was trying to get the hang of archery. Now that I've discovered there's such a thing as "cross-eye dominance", where I'm right-handed but my dominant/strong eye is the left one, I'm a faaaaar better shot than I was as a kid. Our daughter is enjoying archery as well (its quieter than the gun range, for one). So we're spending a lot more time at the archery range nowadays. And summertime means we're not stuck waiting for time on the line at the indoor range, there's an outdoor range nearby as well. I may even break out the homemade blowguns again.... 1x10 scrap of whiteboard, cut with a Pegas #5 blade. Had a bit of a goof with the bowstring, I cut the inside pieces, then did the outside and my tracking was a bit off towards the left side. Got a bit closer than I'd've liked to the inner wall, which resulted in a kink/slight crack. I'll shore it up with some wood glue.1 point -

If price was no object I would like a scroll saw that folds small for storage, automatically puts in the blades I request by voice. Warns me when I'm about to make a mistake, is dead silent, has a beer tap and sings a few hallelujahs when I complete a project. RJF1 point -
