Baseball Ribbon Holder
Lucky2 and 4 others reacted to don in brooklin on for a topic
We have 2 seasons with our Grandsons. Hockey and Baseball. We have 2 Grandsons playing rep baseball all over southern Ontario and they are doing quite well. The request came for a ribbon holder for baseball only as the hockey ones are full. He is my new design. The pattern on the left is a modified Steve Good Pattern. I think they will get a kick out of their numbers and team logo. In order to hold up I use key holes. I give them instructions and the wall plugs.5 points -

This came up on my FB Memories this morning so I thought I'd show you the inside of my shop.. In the background of some of the pictures you can see my other shop too.. There is two things today that I have to say about this shop... Boy did it fill up fast.. and I should have built a bigger shop, LOL That lean too on the one side there is just a porch.. I've really been considering adding one to the other side to expand my wood shop over to there to free up that one bay.. I originally built this for wood shop only and using the other shop to work on cars etc.. But in putting up this shop they accidentally cut the power line to the old shop.. and the old shop is in rough shape.. so I wasn't going to hook the power back up since the complete electrical was not close to being up to code etc.. probably a good thing it got cut off because the wiring was really old and in rough shape.. probably would of burnt the place down anyway, LOL The dog in that one photo is making sure we was doing everything correctly and in the other photo he is guarding the contents.. ( sand floor ) LOL4 points

Hi All First post showing some recent work here. Since we are a large sport loving family outside of Philly, and since I just started back with scrollsawing, here are a couple of my recent projects. Why a Bruins logo you may ask? Because I am a huge Bruins fan since I was very young (My kids hate me for it!! LOL) (These are just to hang in my office and not for sale) Any feedback would be greatly appreciated Thank you Ed2 points -

Well I’m not sure if I’m a hobby woodworker or a hobby wood collector. I love to buy / harvest wood. Then I never want to use it. I like to save it. If I’m going to make a project out of cherry I could have 200 bd ft but I won’t use it I go buy more to use then I try use as little as possible and save that. Also if I have beautiful pieces of wood I never want to use it. I always want to save it. I’m looking to put up a small shed out back just for wood storage. But I don’t want to use up the wood to build it. I guess I’mmmm mr. wood miser. oh yeah and all my studded walls have wood slats nailed up so I can store long thin cut offs in . Most are absolute garbage. But I won’t throw them out. “Mmm. Better keep that might need it sometime.”Even though I’ll never find it again or even remember I have it.2 points

Me Too.. They've always been real good to me and get my products typically 2-3 days.. BW took 2 weeks just to process my order and get it in the mail and another 1+ in the mail system... Maybe because I caught them at Christmas time.. but DnD was quick.. Also love the small drill bits that DnD sells.. they come in plastic tubes with a cap.. just like some of the blade storage tubes.. but mini ones LOL2 points -

I have over the years purchase a little. Mainly I have had friends and wood workers who had wood left overs and like money if some one asks if I might be able to use it I say yes. I met a Doctor who in the 70s harvested from his wooded land to build a regular size Barn to store and work on his John Deere tractor Collection He had 10 when I met him about 2000 but took He did not know I was interested in wood working for a bout 10 years later when he saw some of my scroll sawing work and noticed I was dumpster diving in the parking lot. They were renovating the hospital and were throwing out 2 inch Oak rails doors and thinner base board. He invited me to his barn to take some of the wood he was not going to use and since he used to build large projects maybe I could use some of the wood he wouldn't. So he had a lot of walnut some oak birch and cherry so this is what I have been using since. Rough sawn but had a band saw and planner. For a project I either find a pattern and see if I got a piece of wood to fit or I pick a piece of wood and find a pattern to fit.2 points -
Ha! If the amount of space one's wood takes up, I am a lot richer in wood than @oldhudson! Coarse, I only have a tiny amount of wood but the way I organize things, my tiny amount takes up a whole lot more space.... I even build a cart like his, it over there some where under those pieces of scrap wood.....2 points

These are photos, that I have taken, and turned into puzzles. They are from Lake of the Woods, ON. We have a large cruiser boat that we can go exploring the lake with. Thsi past weekend we saw moose swimming across from one island to another, two large turtles, a buck, and watched a beaver grooming itself on a rock.2 points -

Just got back from a long 4th of July weekend road-trip....drove from Austin Tx to Pensacola Fl, turned out to be around 11 hours going, 13 returning (hit an interstate shutdown in Lake Charles, LA, that had I-10 completely closed and all traffic routed to the I-610 bypass....took us 30 minutes to go 3/4 mile before we could exit and take back roads...through questionable parts of town...you know you're in the wrong area when the church has bars on the windows). Oceans/beaches aren't really my thing, so I probably won't do any beach-themed pieces (gimme mountains, forests...places you can go from hotel to car without dropping two pounds of water weight from the humidity...I sweated like a politician in a church with bars on the windows). For me...summer is outdoor fun, and one of my fondest memories of summer camp as a kid was trying to get the hang of archery. Now that I've discovered there's such a thing as "cross-eye dominance", where I'm right-handed but my dominant/strong eye is the left one, I'm a faaaaar better shot than I was as a kid. Our daughter is enjoying archery as well (its quieter than the gun range, for one). So we're spending a lot more time at the archery range nowadays. And summertime means we're not stuck waiting for time on the line at the indoor range, there's an outdoor range nearby as well. I may even break out the homemade blowguns again.... 1x10 scrap of whiteboard, cut with a Pegas #5 blade. Had a bit of a goof with the bowstring, I cut the inside pieces, then did the outside and my tracking was a bit off towards the left side. Got a bit closer than I'd've liked to the inner wall, which resulted in a kink/slight crack. I'll shore it up with some wood glue.2 points -
Ray, I don't want to hijack this thread but speaking of table saws I sold my cast iron Delta Uni-saw. Real beast. Not having room I replaced it with a portable saw from Lowe's. Under $200. I won't build furniture with it or do fine segmenting but for what I do it is perfect. I wheel it out onto the driveway two or three times a day. A tap of the toe and it sets up on it's frame. Another tap of the toe and it folds up ready to wheel back in place. Very quick and easy. There will be detractors but it accomplishes what I need to do.1 point

Me Too.. My uncle lives right behind me and owns a excavating business and a hobby sawmill.. he's retired now from the excavating but still owns the all the equipment.. anyway.. I think maybe he just switch careers because that hobby mill is running an awful lot, Got some real nice slabs of Walnut yesterday.. live edge stuff etc.. he was just gonna burn it, LOL.. and my brother has been in the mill business since 1975.. he is just 5 mile up the road.. He just gives me cut-offs etc.. which turns out pretty good.. I give him all my planer sawdust.. right now sawdust prices are way up there and he has a hard time not just grinding up his logs into sawdust, LOL1 point

Generally go out and buy what I need for a project except BB I keep plenty of that on hand. I am not a very good organizer or planner. Seems if I keep stock laying around I end up moving it all the time and possibly dinging it up. grizz1 point -

OCtoolguy reacted to teachnlearn for a topic
Most the scroll saw patterns I've seen are somewhat small. I can imagine there isn't space in any living space. We have lived in apartments and had to create space. Slide a few boards under the bed. Slide a few boards beside the frig between the wall and frig or frig and cabinet. Slide a few boards behind sets of cabinets, dressers, bookcases. With 8 x 10 signs there must be a few spaces to keep a bit of spare wood. Most purchases depend of the amount you buy. Buy one piece and you pay max. Buy a bit more and you get a discount. I lived in a submarine and they tucked everything in a space. Hardwood has a higher price, but you probably have favorites you work in, I haven't seen too many posts with someone working in a exotic scarce hardwood. One major question is budget. We buy food in bulk and break it down to small packs and freeze it. We have to save, but we save a lot on bulk purchase. Stock of wood would work the same. 'Might fit in the freezer if you break it down'. Unless you live in a tent, there is space somewhere. If you live in a tent, put pieces of wood on a tarp next to it and fold the tarp. Bet I could fit a few 8 x 10 pieces under the car seat, or in the trunk. RJF1 point -

Pegas Blades??

Just thought I'd let everyone know that I sent a message to BW last night with my order number and the info needed to prove that I bought the blades from them.. They returned message this afternoon saying they was sending out 2 gross of new blades right away.. I guess that means I have to take back the negative comments I've said about BW.. I don't like ordering from them because they take forever to get here.. compared to DnD.. But then.. DnD also gives good customer service and they have advantage over BW because they are in the U.S. and BW is Canada.. Anyway, I'm happy to throw these blades in the recycle bin.. Thanks everyone for all the comments..1 point -
I suppose that would work.. But why do it the easy way..1 point

Hello from Bucks County, PA

Hello All.... My name is Ed and I am from Bucks County, PA, close to Doylestown if anyone knows the area. I used to do scrollsaw work for fun before I started a family. Once I got married and had kids, that was put on hold. So now that they are older and in college....I am slowly getting back into it. Looking through the forums, wow you guys and gals are talented!! I look forward to being a contributing member of this community I work in the Clinical Research field within IT and sit at a desk all day.....so this is another reason getting back into the hobby. Been working on losing my winter weight since '91 HAHA Thank you and hope everyone has a great day!! I look forward to your inspirations!! Ed1 point -
Guitar Pick Tray Pattern I needed a container of some sort to hold my assortment of picks so that I could quickly get one when I needed it. Up to now I had them scattered all over my desk. So I decided to build this little box in the shape of a guitar pick to fill my needs. It will hold quite a few picks (standard or thumb and finger). I made a couple of them (one larger than the other) and one of them has an inlay in the bottom, which I explain how to make. You don't have to use this for picks, of course. Might make a nice little candy dish. You can download the free pattern from my FREE PATTERN PAGE: BUILD VIDEO I've also done a step by step video which shows me making the tray and explains how to do a simple wood inlay, in case you have not done one before. You can see the video on My YouTube Channel1 point

Though not really my thing, I have been getting requests for “medicine” boxes. I am amazed at how many folks in MD have gotten RXs for legal weed. Whatever floats your boat. Anyway, I made two more boxes yesterday. The one with the leaf is made with a Purple Heart top backed with African Rosewood, Sapele sides and Purple Heart base. The other one is taken from a Mr. Zig Zag tattoo. (Zig Zag rolling papers were popular in the 60s and 70s). The top is Zebrawood, backed with Purple Heart stained black, Sapele sides and Zebrawood base. I had originally planned to back the top in oiled Purple Heart, but it just looked muddled, thus the black stain.1 point

What I look forward too the most is to spend time in and on the water at our island in Lake Pivabiska. The photo that I am attaching features canoeing. There are photos of me in two of my canoes with two of my grandchildren (Isla age 4 and Ethan age 2). The scroll sawn part was designed by Timothy (with a few design changes by me). In about a month Ethan, who is now 17, and I will be going on a 5 night canoe trip.1 point -

I was asked from my golf course which I have been a member since inauguration to make a golf balls display for the members that passed away since the course opening. They take a golf ball and have their name printed on the ball and the death date. I made one before but we had more players that died that we had room on the display, so instead of adding to the previous I made a new one.1 point -
New type wood for me

OK let me get this straight. Bake for 3 hours in a 250 degree oven. Do you brush on a sauce before you put it in or during baking? and what side of wood do you serve on the side? Have a recommendation of a wine that would go with this? RJF1 point -
Best new saw if price no object
Jim Finn reacted to teachnlearn for a topic
If price was no object I would like a scroll saw that folds small for storage, automatically puts in the blades I request by voice. Warns me when I'm about to make a mistake, is dead silent, has a beer tap and sings a few hallelujahs when I complete a project. RJF1 point
