  1. Well I finally got something off the saw. With table saw upgrades, some jigs to work on, outside work, I have only spent a hour or so a day a few days a week on the saw. But I have this one cut and have another picture I have been working on for my son about 1/2 cut. This a Charles Hand pattern. I did the Ornate tiger, this one seemed to go slower for some reason,, not more difficult. I like having these on a saw. I enjoy cutting them. The next one will be the ornate howl.

    MultiMax 14

The 14 is too small to replace the Hawk. To replace it I'd need a full size Hegner. My hawk is set up so conveniently I would hate to do everything over again. My saw is on wheels out of necessity. Dust collection is set up. I'm too old. I am very short on energy. I walk with a cane so getting down to do the smallest jobs are a real chore. I'm fortunate to have had my shop built perhaps 15 years ago. Three years ago I got rid of my large machine tools and a friend built new benches and shelves for me. I am no longer able to do those things. So I just sit at the saw and enjoy life every day. I think I had a bad day once but I can't remember. :>)

    Free Wood

If you are close enough to a sawmill you can get a carload of free "first cut" slabs that re great as backing for scrollers. When a sawmill gets a log they cut 4 sides to square up the log before cutting into studs. They are "scrap" for them. Just ask. John Old Dust

  11. If anyone is looking for a challenge, here it is! I think there was 2 million pilot holes, give or take a million, at least it felt like it was that many! It is a great pattern, but it is a tough one to cut. This was made for a friend to raffle off to raise money for the national wildlife turkey federation. I left the plastic on the frame for shipping.

    Nativity Scene

I finally put pictures away for the time being and cranked up the old scroll saw. This Nativity Scene is cut out of 3/4" Poplar and it is a Steve Good Pattern. I will probably cut a couple out of Walnut and clear coat them. Thanks for looking Jim

Well, if you are anything like me, I can't pass up a deal and if it's something that I know I can make a few bucks on, what the heck, why not? As long as the bills are paid and there is food on the table, go for it.

It does come with a stand. I'll try to get hold of the owner tomorrow. If I'm too late it's OK as I have no business getting more stuff. Sometimes one has to ignore good sense.

I've had better luck with the Pegas . I really like the ultra reverse #1. I was doing some walnut and had to go to the #3 but cut some 3/4" pine this am with the #1 and it worked fine, also some cherry that I planed down to about 5/8".

  26. Allow me to introduce myself. I’m AJ from Cincy and I just joined the Village. I’ve been a scroller in a sense for many years, although it’s more for practical purposes than decorative ones. Most of what I do is cutting out forms for carving and woodworking projects, although there are occasional small fretwork jobs like simple Christmas ornaments. I just found this forum through a reference on another woodworking forum (Sawmill Creek). I am always looking for ideas for projects, tips on improving my skills, and just seeing what other people are doing. As a retired school teacher, I miss the creative parts of classroom life and all the other school “hats” I wore. I never had the time for the woodworking arts, so now my creative appetite gets filled with the touch and smell of wood. I’m looking forward to new vistas hanging around the Village from time to time. Sincerely, - aj43

  32. Guitar Pick Tray Pattern I needed a container of some sort to hold my assortment of picks so that I could quickly get one when I needed it. Up to now I had them scattered all over my desk. So I decided to build this little box in the shape of a guitar pick to fill my needs. It will hold quite a few picks (standard or thumb and finger). I made a couple of them (one larger than the other) and one of them has an inlay in the bottom, which I explain how to make. You don't have to use this for picks, of course. Might make a nice little candy dish. You can download the free pattern from my FREE PATTERN PAGE: BUILD VIDEO I've also done a step by step video which shows me making the tray and explains how to do a simple wood inlay, in case you have not done one before. You can see the video on My YouTube Channel

    Swedish Butter Knife

A friend had shown some of these on fakebook. I decided- well a piece of pallet wood lying in my shop; decided that it wanted to be one. So I did a few image searches and then drew something on the wood. Well the scrollsaw and the belt sander both worked hard on the shaping and the ROS did the finishing touches. The size is about 11 inches long the handle is 5/8 wide while the blade part is 3/8 with a double taper. The blade depth is 2-3/8 inches. I am sorry, but, I do not know the wood species. It was quite hard. Identity will be appreciated too.

  37. Gorilla With An Ice Cream Cone Puzzle Pattern Some children might find this amusing. Yes, it's a gorilla holding an ice cream cone. One can probably assume it didn't last very long. Great gift for a young child especially if you make up a story to go along with it. I cut mine from MDF. It would probably look better if painted, but I offer it as is. Perhaps a nice wood could dress it up a bit. Free Pattern:

    Looks Like A Lotta Bull

Bull Head Puzzle Pattern Is it just me or does he look as though he has a surprised look in his eyes? The pattern doesn't include the drilled holes for the eyes, but it does seem to give expression to the piece. This is a simple puzzle (only 8 pieces) but it might prove a challenge for a young child. I cut mine from 1" cedar but it can be cut from just about any type of wood. Download pattern and sign up for free newsletter

    Lucky Guy (Gal)

Double Lucky Guy (and Double Lucky Gal) Sign Patterns Some people are just lucky. Some people are double lucky and this sign celebrates those who feel more than lucky. Actually this is a double lucky pattern because there are two in the download. One for the Guy and one for the Gal. I like to experiment with different kinds of wood and this month's Woodcraft sale paper said they had a wood on sale called Leopardwood. So I picked up one of the boards (not cheap even on sale) and used it for this sign. Has a nice effect. Sort of reddish in color with spots. I sliced the slab down the middle to make a roughly 1/4" thick piece and used that for the sign. The top layer of the base is improvised from the left over wood of the blank and I glued this on another improvised maple base. Free Download Page:
