  1. I finished another rocking horse. This one is a buckskin and belongs to my daughter. She was not happy when the other one disappeared. As you can tell by the photos, the Quality Control Department at home approves of the construction and functionality of this rocking horse.

    pegas blades wear

I don't reckon I've had a chance to test drive all them fancy blades. I may have to keep some of those names stashed in my thinker box fer a rainy day. Personally, I ain't never run nothin but Olson & Flyin Dutchman blades of all sizes and types & ain't never had no issues with them. The #0 & #1 blades do have a tendency to stray off the cut line, but to solve that issue, I run my blade tension a little tighter than the hot shots say to, & I slow the blade speed down a snort. If'n yer in such a all mighty hurry that you're runnin that blade might near full throttle, ya ain't got any business scrollin. In all honesty, scroll blades despise heat & speed. The two together will wreck yer blade faster'n ya can change'em! Especially in hardwood. Learn to find a speed that yer saw & blade are workin at an even keel, & constant speed. Regardless of how fancy a name yer blade has, it'll keep cuttin fer a long, steady, even cut. Learn to be consistent, easy on the throttle, & let the blade do the work. You'll find your results will change, yer blades will keep cuttin, regardless of the breed of blades, wood, or saw. Sawdust703(brad)

Thank you. It looks good. I'kk watch it. Also the long bolt to tighten the tilt, I took it off and replaced it with a metric hex bolt. I will perhaps never tilt the bed. If I do I have lots of wrenches. Also, the little thing that flips over the lower clamp, I removed it also. This little saw will work great. Thanks for the photo too.

Ray, you have to stop giving me ideas! You just caused me to spend $74.90 on the quick release. STOP IT! Now I have $100 for the saw, $74.90 for the tension release, $3.17 for a knob plus the cost of the 8' bolt. In addition gas to get the saw and then I bought lunch for my friend and I which was over $25. Lord, where will it ever end? The good news is I'll end up with a great little saw. Just have to work out dust collection. Hegner has one for my saw but I can work something out.

Thanks for the info. I had seen this before but was not aware it was available for the 14V. I did a couple of test cuts today after making my tension rod. Hegner wanted $62, mine cost $3.17 for the knob. The saw is virtually vibration-less from 0 to 1750 spm. Smoother than a baby's butt. I tried cutting with a #9 Pegas MG on 1/2" Poplar.

If anyone is looking for a challenge, here it is! I think there was 2 million pilot holes, give or take a million, at least it felt like it was that many! It is a great pattern, but it is a tough one to cut. This was made for a friend to raffle off to raise money for the national wildlife turkey federation. I left the plastic on the frame for shipping.

A.K. has a good idea--Make 2 at a time with one light colored wood and the other dark, stack cut and reverse the inserts. Would add a nice effect. Plus you would have 2 to give away- sell- trade or Do a double take display with.

You would know that. I had to spend $20 on one. Oh well, I got it all back when I sold it. I'm keeping an eye on the one that is here locally. It has a stand and is also variable speed but I just can't justify $200 for something that I don't need. I just want it. Maybe next week if it is still available.

  17. Well I finally got something off the saw. With table saw upgrades, some jigs to work on, outside work, I have only spent a hour or so a day a few days a week on the saw. But I have this one cut and have another picture I have been working on for my son about 1/2 cut. This a Charles Hand pattern. I did the Ornate tiger, this one seemed to go slower for some reason,, not more difficult. I like having these on a saw. I enjoy cutting them. The next one will be the ornate howl.

Mostly toys, but now I want to look into portrait cutting, which seems to be the no.1 interest here. Because I have some specific questions about this, I registrered here. Horsing around

Was trying to figure out some things with some rescued wood. I do not know the species of any except the lighter colored horse; I believe to be oak The bases are about 1-1/2 in thick and the length is about 3-1/2 inches with them being just over 4" tall.. Very open to suggestions on the final finish coating! Thanks. Pattern? is a modified silhouette from free internet sources.

That's great. Did you get any extra blade clamps and the tightening wrench? Also, did you see what I said about the variable speed? I can't believe they stopped putting that on the new saws. Anyway, enjoy your new toy. I know you'll love it. I liked the one I had except for the speed problem. I'll be looking for another one. Maybe just like yours. There is one near me that I can get for $200 but that's more than I want to pay.

    Watching

Watching Apollo 11 In the news lately there has been a lot about the Apollo 11 landing on the moon and the attempted assault on Area 51. So I thought I'd combine both ideas into a little sign with a little twist I call "Watching Apollo 11" I don't know if there is anything "out there" but we do know the Americans were the first to land on the moon. Might make a nice gift for a 51 fanatic or any space explorer. Download the free pattern from my Free Pattern Page:

Nice job. I am sure the recipient will love it. Thanks for showing. @lawson56 as a fellow Tennessean, that is sacrilegious to say you don’t like orange. course, this orange is not quite the right shade anyway. I bleed orange. But, purple may be my favorite color at least when not bringing college sports into it.

I change it up all the time like that... gives me something challenging to do and keeps me in tune with all the different blades..LOL.. I used FD blades for a good 12 + years so I adjust in just a few seconds after switching back from the Pegas.. I do this because I do like to be well versed in being able to use about any blade thrown my way..

    pegas blades wear

Kevin, I had the exact same experience. But, in reverse. I was used to using Pegas #5 blades and for some unknown reason, I decided to try some FD blades. All of a sudden I couldn't keep them going straight. I had to really push to one side to stay on the line. I love me some PEGAS!

    pegas blades wear

What Olsen blades do you run? I've had just the opposite.. the Pegas last a lot longer than the others I've used.. I will say they don't like heat.. so if you're running a pretty fast saw speed.. they'll dull quicker.. I don't have this issue on my Excalibur.. but I do on the DeWalt and Hawk but these two saws have a faster running speed.. i have to turn it down some for these two saws.. Another thing too.. They do cut straighter than most the other blades.. and when I first tried them I kept pushing sort of more on the side of the blade as I was used to the couple of degrees off that most blades have.. so by doing that I was creating a little more heat with them..

  47. Like the others, I have no knowledge on the RBI saws. I also checked the Scroll Saw Reviews Subsection of the Village under the "Resources" tab and did not see any reviews there for the RBI. You can find the ones that are listed there by going here: https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/scroll-saw-reviews/?d=5 Perhaps someone who does will come on and be able to reply sooner then later. Then, perhaps they or you once you have it purchased and used for a bit, can add a review there. However, I did want to welcome you to the Village.

  50. A lot depends on what you are cutting. If you do a lot of fret work you might like one saw but if you are cutting thicker wood for puzzles or Intarsia you might like another. If longevity and parts availability, I would choose the Hegner. There are a lot of people with 20 year old Hegners and nothing has worn out.
