    A Few New Cuts

Keeping up with orders and bringing adding NEW cuts has been a bit of a challenge this summer.. will be starting my ornament restocking and making new designs very soon so this maybe the last of the new clocks and other things until I get some of my ornaments stocked up..

  2. Here is what I finally did with my tree puzzle. Used craft paint and sponged it on. Did one side in summer colours and the other side in autumn colours. Thanks to my sister for the suggestion.

    Forgiven

This is a Charles Dearing design. I got it finished up this morning. I’ve been trying to “make” this pattern for a long time and just kept falling short. I gave it to Charles and he made it happen. One of these days I should learn how to make patterns. I think his version turned out awesome.

  4. This was designed by my Good Friend Marcel who Lives in Holland. I have already cut many of Alex Fox's Patterns like this and Enjoy them. Color scheme was decided mostly by my Wife. I did help some. LOL Let me know your thoughts...........Thanks Danny :+}

  7. I cut this little thing quite a long time ago. I ran across it recently. I tried painting it but can't do a good job. Too many hand tremors. But was fun anyway. Just made the frame today.

    Angels

I have been making angel ornaments this past week. Cut using pine on my scroll saw. Halos are drilled out 3/4" wheels. I now need to loop 10" long ribbons through the halos to form a hanger on each.

Thanks for the kind comments. I offer these for sale but have sold few. Whatever i do not sell I give to local hospitals. They give them to small children for something comforting to hold during their stay. The pattern I use is one from a magazine at I have modified a bit to make it more robust for the kids to handel.

    Take A Hike

Hiking is good exercise, whether you are going miles and miles or just for a walk around the neighborhood. Lots of people indulge in this activity so a sign cut from wood might make them very happy. Download the free pattern from my Free Pattern Page: http://baggetta.com/pebooks/puzzle_patterns.htm

  13. Hi All, I am back in the shop again and on the forum. I took an extended absence last year and was dealing with some things, but things are back to normal now. Things in the shop have been neglected for a long time, so I'll have to reacquaint myself with some things as my memory isn't what it used to be. Sorry in advance if I ask some dumb questions. But it's good to be back among the living and back in the shop again. Cheers! SD

    Box fan filter

General filters may not have any outside cardboard. The furnace filters with outside cardboard has an arrow printed on the side showing air flow direction. I grab these and tape them to a box fan. RJF

I run my saw fairly fast but I cut very slowly to avoid "mis-cuts". Especially on 3D compound cuts.

    Curves

Got to thinking about this topic today. Following the curve also has to do a lot with the speed you saw at. I am a big fan of very very slow speeds. I like to feel the saw cutting into the wood. if you go really fast, it will just sort of float through and the grains in the wood will sort if just move the wood along. Going slow teaches you what it should feel like. Does for me anyway,

  31. I have two lamps one for each saw. I bought the H/F lamp and I like it. I did the LED upgrade that Kevin did and bought the same bulb that he suggested. It works great. I also bought the $25/free shipping lamp that Rockytime found on eBay and it already had the LED in it. It also works great. I have not found a problem with either one as far as lens quality/power/clarity goes. I wear progressive lens glasses and make sure to get the lamp situated in the right spot before I start cutting. They are adjustable you know.

  32. The cost of the magnifiers cost is the quality of the lens material and the quality of the manufacturing of the lens magnification or polishing. Lens can be a cheap molded plastic to create the magnification shape. As the cost increases you will find clear glass that is ground and polished to create the magnification. When I was designing circuits for companies I had a bench that had a scientific magnifier. The magnification was crystal clear. I was able to find micro cracks in the cooper circuit or poor soldering on small parts. Also came with a mag camera with a flat screen to boot. Really cheap ones may distort the object. Like looking through water and not being able to grab the object. If possible bring photographs and check the magnifier. The magnification should be clear and crisp. If you decide on one because its cheap, the downside maybe your eyes will quickly tire. Its like getting a pair of glasses with the wrong script. Most people have a level of what they can afford. As I get older and having some disabilities along with my wife having the same; We find it helps to save a little more for devices that have a bit better build. We have extension grippers and the cheap ones don't grab. Cheap tub and shower bars that fall off the wall. After a round of buying things that aid or adapt for us we now save and buy a couple levels above cheap. We decided to buy equipment that will work properly and not hurt us. For magnifiers your adapting your eyes to assist or aid to see smaller things. Your buying adaptions for your eyes. If you find what you want and you find yourself tiring quickly or getting headaches, it could be the magnifier is doing that. Just like a pair of glasses that aren't made for you. Problem with Amazon and other online orders is there is no hands on trying. Just finding out after you get it. By the way, there was a thread on where the magnifier was attached. Some people had trouble with vibration from the saw when the magnifier was clamped to the table. So the discussion went on about adapting where to clamp or creating or buying floor stands. RJF

The one thing I found at HL that I didn't see anywhere else in town was an egg shaped (xxl egg) chunk of wood that I use as a handle for my needle files. Very comfortable in my hand (no cramping on that tiny shaft.:

Stay away from plywood at all cost, if it's at all possible. Learn on wood. Every blade sings it's own tune in different thicknesses, species, & blade speed. My advice to ya, seein's how ya pointed out yer a newbie & all, is before ya start gettin any big ideas a goin in yer thinker box, sit yerself down to that saw, have a little conversation with it, then start runnin thru whatever blades ya got on hand, and start cuttin circles about 3" - 4" in diameter IN WOOD. Just keep cuttin circles til ya've managed to cut yerself a few perfect circles that fit the bill. Do ya own a compass? If'n ya don't, use a empty vegetable can & trace around it. Drill ya an entry hole at each circle, & mark the circle with what blade ya used on it. If'n ya perfected one, spend time learnin to use that blade. Once ya learn that blade, ya can start learnin other sizes of blades in other circumstances.
