  1. of what wood looks good after sanding and finishing, needs some work. First double inlay red cedar base, basswood walls, curly maple with red cedar and red oak inlay and though not shown, hunter green flocking inside EDIT: I finally figured out what has been bothering me about this pic, the wall of the box is basswood, basswood is white. not being the sharpest ac in the box I took the pic on a gloss yellow backing I had, photoshop to get rid of the yellow back drop and just missed that the white basswood had picked up the yellow reflection. Sorry about that

    NOT a Footy Plaque

I cut this before I got sick, I also painted and finished it but only got to glue it together the other day. It is a Steve Good pattern and cut from 1/2" pine with a 2mm ply back pained black. Marg

    Amazing Grace

I would like to give credit to whomever created this pattern but for the life of me I can't remember who. Would the designer please step up. The original pattern had a silhouette of Christ which I did not include since that made it taller than the four inch material I had. Don't know what the wood is but used a #1 Pegas MG and finished with a couple of light coats of polyurethane.

    Golf Part 1

Great pattern from Steve good. I planed the Oak down to 12mm. I used Olsen 2/0 and No5 blades. The Danish oil from rustins gives a fantastic warm colour to the Oak. Part 2 coming soon.

  5. Two dragon patterns I found on Google. Cut in 3/8" BB ply (I think....they were sized right and came out of my scrap pile). Pieces are stained Dark Walnut with a clear satin lacquer, backer is neon green rattlecan with a clear glossy lacquer. These two will be the front and back panel of a dice tower (basically an enclosed box with an opening at the top and bottom, and angled baffles inside so that when you drop dice in they bounce around and roll randomly, no chance of someone trying to manipulate a roll). The right-hand dragon is shorter to leave an opening at the bottom of the tower for the dice to exit. I'll post a pic of the final product when I get it finished. I couldn't really find any good step-by-step plans, so this was mostly "take a look at a bunch of pictures and then give it a solid try".

Just thought I would share my latest project. Made this out of 1/4 inch oak plywood for my daughter.

  7. Without getting too complicated, the vacuum will take the path of least resistance. The simplest thing would be to match the top and bottom with the same size orifice, restricting the larger opening. I put dust collection on my Hawk and I am using a very quiet Festool MIDI vac that cycles on and off with my saw. I did not like the idea of my large dust collection system cycling and or running all the time that I am cutting. Too much noise. Shop vacs are completely unacceptable as my shop is directly under our great room where my wife spends most of her time. I have posted my system images several times, so I am sorry for the repeat. I used Mag switches to hold it on my saw, easy to remove and no holes to drill. also it is not glued together for easy disassembly if I get something stuck in it. I also put in a inline trap to ketch those little pieces that I need when the get sucked up. I also added a swivel joint, since I swing the upper tube out of the way frequently when feeding the blade. The screw keeps the joint from loosening. My blower hose is no longer used! Note: the sawdust on the saw is from my chop saw in the back ground, Not the scroll saw. I have since moved the chop saw to a different location.

  8. I do change them but always keep a couple of them. I figure they will come in useful someday like everything else I have kept for 20 years. My wife just groans. :>)

  9. The reason you are sent replacements every few months is because of bacteria that builds up. The same with oxygen hoses. I took care of an older couple for a couple of years. I hope you are replacing the used hoses and repurposing them. Changing them is important.

I have one. I can’t seem to get a flat surface on a 8+” board. I do use it for the edges. It is a waste of money and space. I have my flap sander mounted on the side.

    Fishing.

Hi All, This is a pattern by Grampa Wood is Cedar of Lebanon. I planed it down to 6mm. The smell from this wood is amazing. I used a Olsen 2/0 blade for the pattern changing to a No5 for the fishing line. It is a great pattern but I managed to mess it up.

  17. Hi All, I am back in the shop again and on the forum. I took an extended absence last year and was dealing with some things, but things are back to normal now. Things in the shop have been neglected for a long time, so I'll have to reacquaint myself with some things as my memory isn't what it used to be. Sorry in advance if I ask some dumb questions. But it's good to be back among the living and back in the shop again. Cheers! SD

I bought this - http://stockroomsupply.ca/shop/drum-sanders.html - with money from a craft sale. Don't use it as much as I thought I might. Watched a video on using it as a jointer, but I didn't have much sucess at that.

  39. Tower worked great! It was a "figure out measurements/dimensions as I go" sorta project, so it's not the neatest or cleanest thing I've ever built, but the cover fits and converts into the dice output tray (keeps them from shooting off the end of the table). Next time, I'll use the Steve Good pattern.

  44. Put the bench on locking casters. I wouldn't go any lower than 3 inches. I find the common 2 inch caster will tend to bind with weight. Caster are rated by weight and size. Look into putting foam sheets against the wall with plywood outside that to keep it from burning. Infrared heat is nice since it heats you directly. 45. This a long weekend here in Ontario. Being retired all weekends are the same anyways. Christmas is less than 5 months away and each year I cut an ornament or such for everyone at the table at Christmas. It is getting harder and harder each year to come up with something unique. A few years ago I did a sleigh, 2 years ago we did a dangle and last year a snowman. All personalized. So every body wants something with dimension, I like to have this decided early so I can get cut and the LOML can plan on decorating. Usually takes a trip to Joannes. Since I have I have purchased the last 2 years plans from Sue Mey, I wrote to here and the suggestion was elves. I have spent the weekend modifying her pattern to add personalization and added hands and feet like the dangle. Love the feet. Now ready to start cutting, 20 sets and 40 hands and feet. PS Included previous posts for you inspiration.
