When Alex posted the Howling Wolf topic.....I just had to buy the pattern And of course as just a beginner quit hard pattern of course. BUT hey I am me and I just had to try as my third project when my second project was drying and before I could put the hooks on that one........ So I just printed the pattern and started. WHAHAHAHHA well that was easier said then done Before I was on the third layer I already broke about 7 blades, went a bit wrong here and there and really was broken because I was so concentrating on doing it right that I had to stop. BUT the next day, after I had finished my project for our dog leashes, it just kept on calling me.....do you know that feeling? So I just wanted to go on again and of course I flew through the blades I had hahahaha, had to order new ones otherwise I could not even finish it Luckily they arrived the next day so I was just jumping from joy that I could go on breaking some more This all said I finished it today and to be honest....I am quit proud at myself for how it turned out. Maybe not the very best but as my third project I am very pleased with it7 points -

As I continued to be dismayed at the mistakes in cutting my Owl piece that I posted a couple of days ago. I decided it may serve as some relaxation to try something else to take my mind off my frustrations. So I looked through my patterns and found an intarsia pattern that I purchased some time ago from Judy Gale Roberts. So I started it. It has been a long time since I tried an Intarsia piece, so I actually enjoyed giving it a shot. I think I will give it to one of my grandsons for Christmas. Dick heppnerguy7 points -

teacher friend retired
stoney and 4 others reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
A grade school teacher in Heppner, Oregon where we lived for 15 years before we moved to Arizona, told us last month that she retired at the end of last year. She is a good friend and continues to give of herself to so many people. She is always the one that volunteers for just about everything that is in need of another body. Her statement to me was, "Now I will have more time for the little ones at church to help them learn about God. My wife and I both love her a lot and she has spent a lot of time at our house, when we lived there, having diner with us or using our outdoor fire pit to conduct a fun time for others and to sing songs and roast products. Always a good time and everyone was always welcome to come and enjoy. I know this plaque does not fit her ways much and is pretty masculine. but I think she will love it and cherish the fact that we cared enough to make this memorial of HER retirement special by giving her this little Item This is a Sue Mey design, cut with BB ply and finished with semi gloss spray. I don't think any one gets tired of you posts. I certainly enjoy them and your enthusiasm rubs off on some old guy like me and gets be more excited about the hobby again. Like Jim states, try what you want. I would suggest trying the free software first and see if you like it. I don't really know what the purchased software offers above and beyond the free, maybe some one on here that has Coral Draw or other purchased software will explain, I have often wondered but didn't want to spend the money to find out.3 points -

I see you can get a 15 day free trial of Corel Draw. Maybe worth trying it that way. https://www.coreldraw.com/en/pages/free-download/2 points

I read through all the posts on this thread and I'm not seeing anything negative. It was a post about a pattern removal tool, and some followups on how others remove patterns. I think it was a nice start to a discussion. I agree with Ray. Sometimes when things are written in a forum, there isn't any body language or tonal inflection to add context. So, there are times when an post is misconstrued. So, I think it's is good to keep in mind when we read or write a response; how are we interpreting it, or how can what we're writing be interpreted. With that said, I think SSV is a pretty friendly group, especially compared to other groups. We have our moments where things get derailed a bit. But I feel like we're all here to help and be encouraging of others.2 points

I feel the same sometimes but most of the time it is just good conversation. Keep in mind that we are not all sitting around a pot bellied stove chatting. The written word is very different than the spoken word. Granted, there are a couple of folks here who come off as contentious and like to promote their way of thinking but generally I find that this is the friendliest forum site that I have ever been a part of. No smartasses that I have found. Try to see through what you are reading. Many points of view on a subject doesn't mean we are arguing. Debating? Maybe. I have been a member for about 4 years. Starting out as a total novice. I asked a lot of questions and got a ton of good useable advice. Stick around and give us a chance. Just figure out who seems to bother you and then put them on "ignore". I am glad you brought the subject up so it could be discussed.2 points

I removed post as it is being taken wrong as to my post I meant as to what I see on some posts on this site. I also see where some others have mentioned it also. Time to move on to another subject.2 points

I always feel you should try what you want as long as you can afford the cost without changing your life style. Inkscape and gimp are two graphics programs that are free (open source) and you can download and install both. There is a learning curve and depending on you personally how steep that curve is can be hard to say. In the resource center here at SSV are tutorials on both inskscape and gimp, and of course googling them will find you even more of the tutorial or how to instructions/videos on the net. I say go for it.2 points

First project. Version 1.08. Had to quit working on it before I broke it. A guardian angel for a red haired woman whose eyes would pop if they matched a ice blue gown. She recently lost her Mom and believes that her Mom remains her guardian angel. I took the photo after I leaned it up on the back window of my car. Crazy how the picture reveals the cloudy skies above. Paerfect flying conditions for guardian angels.2 points

The piece I made for my wife
Lucky2 reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
this little nick-knack shelf was in the latest scroll saw woodworking magazine, I had in the mail when I returned from Oregon and my wife ask me to make it for her, so I did as I was told. (keeps peace in the family, that way). It is quite small but an easy one to cut. She liked it so that made me happy about doing it for her Dick heppnerguy1 point -
Mmm, not sure if this will make sense. I click on my image then go up to 'Path' and choose 'Trace Bitmap' this will give you a copy of your image and then you can colour it and put an outline on it ready for cutting.1 point

Nice job. When I first learned how to use my Hegner, I broke a lot of blades. Rarely broke blades on the other saws I have had. Now I rarely break any on the Hegner.1 point

I enjoy the old west theme and use it in a lot of my patterns. Steve Good came up with one the other day I could not resist, so I tried my hand at it. I use cherry and maple woods and a photo I took in Monument Valley as a background, instead of a plain black. Came out pretty good. Go on over to Steve's blog and download the pattern. I'm sure he'd appreciate it. Here's a picture of my rendition of the project. A little bit different than Steve's. '1 point

I agree with Melanie... When selling online ( I assume somewhat the same with events ) you cannot determine if something is a hit or not until you offer the product for a good 6 - 12 months.. It's my opinion that anything can and will sell at most any selling price... it's more about getting the item and the price point seen to the right group of people.. That part there is hard to do at events... but much easier with online selling to target a specific group.. Something folks selling at events could do is to show products off that you make online via social media, and message boards much like I do but you'd need to target a local area.. then mention you'll be at "******" event selling them if anyone has interest.. It's called self promoting.. You can't always count on the show organizers to bring you the right buyers for your products.. Just as you cannot expect the buyers to be already on Etsy or any other site waiting for your products either.. I may be wrong... but I doubt many event sellers help themselves and other sellers of events by promoting their items themselves.. I know that most people who try selling online do not so why would a seller of an event do it..1 point

Fine cutting my friend. Beautiful pattern and of course beautiful wood. Very suitable for an urn.1 point -
My first, Guardian Angel (v. 1.08). For a red haired, blue eyed woman who thought an ice blue gown would make her eyes pop. Five different wood types used of different thicknesses for that "touch feely" sensation. Her mom recently passed and believes her mom remains her guardian angel. The project was placed on the rear window of my car. It turns out that the cloudy skies ate reflected in the mirror background. Perfect flying weather for guardian angel's.1 point
