  1. I just finished this a few days ago. It was my first attempt with spiral blades, and I broke 18 blades grand total!! Towards the end though, I figured out what was happening, and didn’t break another blade! This was an extremely fun project, I am looking forward to do more with spirals in the future.

    Old bike

I did that bike for my wife because of her love for biking ( as me ) This is the more delicate cuts I made so far, the wood is 3/16". planeur

    Pegas-Scroll-Band-Saw?

As the others have said, this really is more of a scrollsaw with a continuous blade. Not meant to do what other band saws do. If I were doing lots of band saw boxes or thicker (3/4 inch) maple toy puzzles I would have one.

  10. Well it's exactly 9 wks since my run in with CA glue and I've just taken off my final dressing. Hurray !!! The 'redness' will no doubt fade in time, but I'm no longer in any pain and I can get my shoes on again (I just can't pull my laces too tight on my trainers)

  11. I've used CA glue since it came out years ago. I would say I've been very casual with it and never considered it hazardous other than sticking yourself to the project. From your postings, I'm going to be treating CA differently. RJF

Aww, I'm touched... Thank you all so, so much for your kind words and support, it means an awful lot to me. You all are the very epitome of what a 'community' should be. I've said it before and I'll say it again, '' I knew nothing about scrolling when I joined the Village last year and everyone of you have played a part in my 'education' and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart".

I saw your post so I thought I would try to make a pattern you could cut without losing the middle of the letters. I am not much of a pattern maker but I thought it would be worth a try for you. I hope this helps Dick heppnerguy

Cut these from 1/4" birch ply, they measure about 3"-5" for Santa, Spielman-Reidle patterns. I coat the sides and one face with poly , this allows someone to sign the back and attach it to a present as a keepsake. Stack cut 4 at a time. Thanks for looking.

  27. I have logged virtually 100's of hours using the air models to remove burrs from tooling plate when I was running a METLSAW back in my worker bee days. Doubt if I will ever pick one up again. lol At least an electric one doesn't have that annoying howl the air models have. I bet it worked well on the mower blade though. My lawn is stones and sand and there no mowers anywhere to be seen. I do miss the smell of fresh mowed grass and trees with leaves instead of thorns.

    Boxes with inlay

This is my first attempt at flocking. As mentioned in another thread I was not very happy with the outcome. The first time I did it my coverage was not great. I went ahead and put more coat of glue over the existing flocking on the bottom. I did a lot of research and no one recommended doing this but I am always willing to try something once. The results weren't great. The coverage is good but ended up with small bumps. I won't try that again. Octoolguy inspired me to do the round box. He made one and posted it probably about a month ago. I did change it up a bit.

A customer drew just the deers and sent it to me. Do you know I never knew why he wanted me to cut it. I could not see the deers and never asked. Just thought it was a tattoo or something. You did real good here!!!

    I Broke My Antler!

Looks like you cut the outside of the antlers, then looped back around to the inside. That means all the stress of blade vibration/pressure sits on the tiny connection piece. I try to find all the little islands and cut around those first, then loop back around the outside. Looking at it another way, if the thick black line is a river, cut the part that touches the inside of the antlers first. That way, you have all the rest of the piece of wood to help provide stability to the weak bridges. Coming back around the other side of the river, the antler points still have the rest of your project for support. Its a hard lesson to learn. All is not lost, though....wood glue is your friend!

Thank you everyone for your comments and support. @Rockytime Thank you too and I actually use Gimp for making the pattern itself, and Inkscape after to vectorize it and get a smooth final design. I animate you to learn pattern making, because I´m not an expert with computers, and it´s easier than can seem at first thougt. I leave you here the link to the series of videos that I used to learn pattern making with Gimp (with an image of William Shatner), and animate you to do it, cause with time you can make beautiful pieces

  40. As the others have said it really depends on what kind of projects you do. My band saw gets constant use, I use a lot of thin material so re-sawing has saved me a small fortune.

  42. Last week Steve Good posted these patterns and I thought it would be fun to make. I used 1/4" Walnut. It is 3 1/4" wide and 6" high. I tried to make the 3" out of Cherry, but it broke and I was unable to glue it together. I used FD UR #1 blades and finished with sanding sealer and two coats spray Lacquer Clear Semi Gloss. Comments welcome.

I second what Scrappile just said. First of all, we all have had a lot of firewood. Sadly, I have no fireplace. Second, wear a dusy mask no matter what you are cutting. Scroll saw make a ton of fine dust. Many of us have a 20 inxh box fan sitting along side of us to draw the dust away. Put a furnace filter on the inlet side. Make sure your dust blower blows the dust away from you toward that fan. I vacuum off the furnace filter after every session. It's amazing how much it catches. 3rd, Rockytime buys sheets of under layment plywood ay H/D for just a few dollars. It's about 3/16" thick amd seems to cut well. And, 4th, do tell us a bit about yourself. Welcome to the village. It's the friendliest place on the web. 5th, no such thing as a dumb question!!!
