    Thanks Dave Monk

Dave ( @Dave Monk ) was kind enough to do this pattern for me, thank you. The painting was the hardest part. I can't remember what the wood was but I think it was an Aussie one. The shape is an Aussie football. Marg

  2. I have been eyeing this one for a long time and since I am home alone for 9 days, I have all the shop time I desire. So after the few things I posted yesterday and today, I decided to go back out to the shop one more time and cut this one from Steve Good. It was a fun and easy one to cut. In fact it took me less then an hour to cut this one from start to taking the pattern off the board. So if you would like to cut a wood portrait and have never done so, here is a great one to start off with. If you just like it but have never got around to cutting it, It only takes an hour of your time. You could cut this one while you are waiting for your finish on your other project to dry. 4. I decided to do something that was a little more on the simpler side. So I made this pattern of their logo and cut it just to ease the pressure of the new type of scrolling I have been doing. I also have a couple of new cartoon patterns that I made to work on the new process and try to figure out the best way to do them. I will just hang this one on my shop wall because I did end up kind of liking it's outcome. Dick heppnerguy

I did that bike for my wife because of her love for biking ( as me ) This is the more delicate cuts I made so far, the wood is 3/16". planeur

  6. I wanted the inlay to be subdued cause I really like the wood pattern of the top (red cedar) - almost too subdued I think.

  7. I played golf with a bunch of neighbours every Monday orTuesday and at the end of the year I make something for a draw that we have at our closing of the season breakfast. This year the golfer clock is a pattern from Steve Good. One of my neighbor has grandkids and I like to cut some stuff for them, also from Steve Good.

  9. I saw Sam Custodio post this new illusion pattern and I have been looking at a couple of them to cut. When I saw this one, yesterday, I downloaded it and cut it today. I like to cut Sam's patterns as they are always done so well and a pleasure to cut. I have not done any for awhile so I jumped right on it. Thanks Sam for the great, free patterns. Dick hepperguy

    House warming gift

My granddaughter and her husband finally bought a house, and have moved in. They are giving a house warming party tonight, so I made this for them. The backer is pine, the overlay is cedar and is glued on. There are also a couple of small brass screws holding on the overlay, just in case. It is finished with gloss spar varnish. It is about 14" long.

    Let’s Go Fishing

Another Alex Fox cut. First time using Zebrawood. Really like the contrast between the frame and the piece. The frame was finished with 50/50 wipe on poly/mineral spirits, 3 coats. Then 4-5 coats of semi gloss lacquer after a week. All cut with an Olson 2/0 Blade. I used African Mahogany for the splines.

    Hi from Dolores

Well Hello...... Very much a beginner - not really produced anything yet other than scrap bits and pieces. I have a Record Power saw and one blade, so waiting for new spare blades to arrive. Just spent a small fortune on ply in several sizes, so should be good to go any day soon..... My ambition is to make a clock....you may think this is overly ambitious and you would probably be right, but I'm going to give it a go and see what happens, after all, it's not heart surgery and no one dies if I mess up....do they? Oh, and by the way, Dolores is a place..... Best Wishes.

  15. Because scroll saw blades work so differently from the regular flat blades, many scroller simply do not like them. The first time one tries them, they do not like them because they seem to not make a smooth straight line and a lot more saw dust. One mistake I think people do is to use too large of a blade. Also they seem to work a lot easier at a higher speed and I believe because on the first time use of a spiral one thinks it is best to go slow and get the feel of one. I would suggest that one should start by drawing some lines on a !/4 inch thick piece of wood and practice making turns as well as straight lines and maybe even cutting out circles and squares and some odd shapes. This would give you the feel of a spiral blade without messing up an intended project and you can start to see if you can manage a spiral. Many spiral cutters that like to cut a lot of fret use only spirals for that. I have found that the spiral blade is more forgiving on delicate cuts and there is less breakage. Go easy and let the blade do the cutting. I would suggest nothing bigger than a number 1 blade for this effort Dick heppnerguy

That looks like underlayment. Only 3 layers. Get some real B/BB plywood. Big difference.

    I Broke My Antler!

You say birch plywood. If it is not Baltic birch plywood it might have a cheap core rather than wood plies. A smaller blade may help but my suggestion would be a better grade of material. Baltic birch plywood would be stronger and more forgiving.

    1st attempt

OK people...don't laugh too hard. This is the 1st full pattern I've cut. Practiced a little on a cedar fence board then cut this out of 1/4 birch plywood. I started with the buck's antlers then head and neck. I would cut a little then go across and drop out the piece...then continue to the next section. I cut most of the "LOVE" and dropped out the piece...it was then that I realized I was missing the center of the L, O, and E! I looked at a copy of the pattern and there they were. I think you call them "floaters"? So I just finished the doe for practice. Wasn't really a scroll saw pattern, just one of a bunch of pictures on the internet. Now I know what to look for when I think I've found a project! Does anyone have a real pattern like this?

    GTA V Scene

Hi everyone again! I know that I don´t post a lot, but that´s because I can´t spend all the time that i´d like in the scrollsaw. Sorry about that, but when I have a finished project, I share it with all of you This time, I bring you a little project that I made for a kind of contest, in which the topic was the game "Grand Theft Auto V". I take a photo from the game, designed the pattern and finally cut it in 5mm plywood. I leave you the original photo, the pattern and the final result. I hope you all like it

    Help please?

Hi fredfret, I am using a Hegner quick release clamp. Grub screw one side and tightening screw the other side. Are you meaning the grub screw needs to be adjusted? There is not too much room in the slot which takes the blade. If the grub screw is too far in that will leave very little room for the blade.

  29. Oh....OK Thanks! I just didn't see it inside of the "quote box" . I'm just so use to seeing the comments below the quote box I didn't even think of looking there. Now I know where to look if I see that again! Learn something every day. Yea I thought that looked kind of funky when I looked at it close. When I picked it up at Lowe's it didn't dawn on me there were two (maybe more) kinds of "1/4" birch plywood" so I just grabbed a piece. I live in a small town (about 4500) an hour S of Kansas City and our lumber yard doesn't have it. Carthage (30 mi S.) is the closest Lowe's, I got that stuff there. There is a HD, another Lowe's, Southerland in Joplin, about 45 min. away. I think I'll order a few 1/4" x 12" x 12" from The Wood & Shop ($1.58 ea.) and Heritage Wood ($2.20 ea.) to see which product I like best. Then I can take a sample piece to local lumber yard to see if they can get me some. I looked in your gallery...you do beautiful work!! Besides seeing that you use underlayment a lot, I noticed you use spiral blades most of the time, at least of those projects. Are they hard to work with? I'm just starting to scroll, should I get a few months experience with flat blades before I try a spiral?

Beautiful. I love automation and would have kicked it up one more notch and put a 10 rpm motor on each wheel. Probably put a variable control on it so the wheels turn just enough that people have to keep double check to realize the wheels are turning. I love the way it is, I guess I'm weird and like to put a little twist to things. RJF

    I Broke My Antler!

Dave, I'm going to try stack cutting on my next piece. When you hot glue the edges how do you separate the pieces when done? Table saw? Or would the piece be to delicate? Ever had the hot glue fail and separate while cutting?
    1 point
  46. Yet another suggestion, try slowing the blade some in the delicate areas. Go maybe 50% slower. There is a lot of stress on the wood being hammered by the motion of the blade.
    1 point
  47. The pegas band saw is not for resaw. It uses blades the same size as a scrollsaw blade. Resaw calls for a much larger blade.
