NASCAR #48
Dave Monk and 5 others reacted to OzarkSawdust for a topic
Did another Steve Good pattern. This one a NASCAR #48 Jimmie Johnson ornament! I wanted to try something in 1/8th B/BB Plywood. Yes it does cut easier! I took my projects up to the Red Barn Flea Market where I have a few woodworking things. The owner really liked it all, and wants me to make more for the store! She especially likes the hummingbird, KC Chiefs, and Buck and Doe. I told her I would also make some ornaments about this size with Christmas stuff, angels, bells, tree, etc. she thought those would sell good.6 points -

My wife found this clock in our "goodwill" type store in Winchester, IN. Priced for only $5.00. The man that made it put his signature on the back. Alfred C. Groth is his name living in Leesburg, FL. So I googled him and found out that he retired an moved to FL from Winchester, IN. but passed away in 2013. My point to all this is I have though sometimes were would the things I made end up in the future. There has been a discussion on here about sighing you projects. I think this shows how important it can be. I also find that it is odd that a clock he made in FL would end up back in his home town and be hanging in another scroll sawer's shop. PS he was 92 when he passed and did a very good job making the clock an I am proud to have it hanging in my new shop.2 points

My Delta is basically the same machine, different color. The connecting rod is connected to the motor shaft on one end & a rocker arm on the other. The bolt broke in the rocker arm. It split in the middle of the sleeve & wasn't visible until I took it out. If you have it out, take the bolt to any hardware store and replace it with stainless steel, which is much harder. Stupid design error. That one bolt carries the full load of the machine. Replaced it years ago & that cured mine. When you Dewalt owners have yours apart, replace your bolt also. jerry2 points

Staying on the line
kmmcrafts and one other reacted to Sycamore67 for a topic
I do not worry about drift or try to compensate for it. I concentrate on cutting on the line and turning the wood in whatever direction I need to do so. Sometimes with Intarsia, I cut on one side of the line or the other. If you cut every piece on the line, you will not get a good fit.2 points -

It's always my wife that's at fault on that one.. When I first started sawing she sold pieces at work before they had a finish on them, LOL One evening she mentioned to me that she was going to take it to work and show her co-workers.. I said you can but I need to finish it first.. It disappeared and never returned.. finally came back as green paper bills.. I said next time wait until I'm done with it... Next time comes and guess what... disappeared again.. I finally got smart and stopped bringing them in to show them off until I'm absolutely done..2 points

Seyco Dust Collector
OCtoolguy reacted to Denny Knappen for a topic
I set up the Pegas scroll saw at ArtCrafters for test drives, demos, and lessons. Since this is an art gallery, we had to keep the dust to a minimum. I installed the Seyco Dust Collector on the Pegas saw. It was an easy install, but I used a couple of extra zip ties to hold the hoses. The vacuum is connected to the foot pedal, so that it will be on only when the saw is running. After some time, I will give an update.1 point -

Leash Holder Orders
frankorona reacted to Iguanadon for a topic
I took orders for 6 leash holders at my event this past Saturday, here are 4 of them done along with a custom WOLFPACK request I'd received earlier. Last weekly market coming up this Saturday, then my best event comes up in October, followed by 4 holiday markets... Busy markets, lots of cutting to do...1 point -
Can’t see in the picture is there a hose to pick up dust from top?1 point

I live about 25 miles from Leesburg. I also stamp my pieces that I make. Some of those pieces have made their way back "home" to Illinois. So I can understand how that could happen. Pretty cool.1 point -

Seyco Dust Collector
OCtoolguy reacted to teachnlearn for a topic
Read an article years ago about clock motors, hard drives, old filament lights. Went along the line that the initial start torque lead to early failure. Turning computers on and off every day was harder on the hard drive again from the initial torque. Lights had a initial surge. Seen some forums go round on it. Its a life test of a vac that runs all the time against a vac turning on and off? RJF1 point -

Nice find and interesting to learn about the builder.. I doubt I will ever know where my stuff really goes when I pass, unless some garbage collector decides to keep one.....and wants to know something about it.....1 point -

Ray at Seyco included a three point plug adapter, so I plugged both the saw and vacuum into the foot switch.1 point -

It is on the Seyco site under scroll saw accessories. A bit pricey at $180.1 point -
Nice clean setup. I look forward to reading your review. I have my dust collection setup with my vac also. I do a lot of detail fret work and I've often wondered if it is good to have the vac (Fein) going on and off all the time as I change the blade from one hole to the next. Lately, when I am scrolling like that I switch the switch so the Fein stays on. I can still use the foot peddle when it is in that mode. I have no signs that it hurts the vac to go on and off a lot, so I don't know if it is a valid concern or not..... probably not. @kmmcrafts. just checked and it is listed on their site now... https://www.seyco.com/scroll-saws-etc/1 point

I've really thought about buying one of these.. there have been a few people report that they liked theirs.. I went to buy one not long ago and they are not on Seyco's website anymore so.. not sure what that's about.. Can't wait to hear what your thoughts are on it..1 point

Vibration fix?
OCtoolguy reacted to Devin Wilson for a topic
Just moved to a new house and have setup my saws in a pre built shed with a plywood floor that came with the house we bought. Before I always had them setup on a cement floor. Being in the shed I have terrible vibration when I have 2 saws going. Saws are cutting fine and no problems. Was wondering if putting a rubber mat under them would help it. I see Tractor supply sells those heavy rubber stall mats and was thinking of using one of those under the saws? Any other thoughts?1 point -
My home made wood stand sets on concrete. Put 1" foam between the saw & base. That was quit an improvement. jerry1 point

Vibration fix?
OCtoolguy reacted to Bill WIlson for a topic
That should help some. Are you able to fasten the stand down to the plywood floor permanently? Perhaps mount the stand to a piece of thick plywood that spans at least a couple floor joists, then attach the plywood base to the floor?1 point -

I have not yet received my most recent copy so I cannot say anything specific about this issue in particular yet. I will say that this is a conversation that is had regularly. If you don't do Intarsia, even one article is maybe too much for you. if you don’t do fretwork and prefer Intarsia, only one or two Intarsia patterns in an issue may not be enough. Some complain there is too many “easy” patterns having been scrolling for years. Newbies, think patterns are too difficult, and want more easy patterns, I can only imagine how difficult it is to try to make everybody somewhat happy most of the time when trying to put out a magazine for such a wide variety of areas in a hobby that covers so many types of work. I am just happy that we have a magazine and always find something in most issues that I am willing to try, Sometimes we need to go outside our comfort zone and try something new. When you consider how much a pattern can cost, I figure as long as I find one an issue, (and I usually find more than one), it has paid for its self. Do I always like everything in every issue, no but I don’t expect to. But I will say, thanks to the magazine, I have also tried things that I might not have otherwise.1 point
