Cut twelve of Steve Goods’s mini Natives. I always use hardwoods instead of Baltic birch plywood. All cut from scrap wood. I used Mahogany for the body and roof, Walnut for the base, Maple for the figures and a mystery wood for the palm tree. Based on the grain, it must be an oak, but it does have a greenish tint to it. All woods are 1/8”. Stack cut four at a time using Flying Dutchman Ultra Reverse #1 blades. I decided to turn them into ornaments.10 points

TEXAS
frankorona and 9 others reacted to OzarkSawdust for a topic
Finished cutting TEXAS this evening. Dipped it in Watco Danish Oil and have it hanging to dry over night. It's. a Russ Wood Designs pattern. I got Texas and Nebraska from his states series. Thought I would try framing it. Didn't come out like I wanted...maybe if I cut one from 1/8" next time. Any ideas from the "framing masters" out there? I think glass would be better than the plexi. that came with it. There would not be any bow then.10 points -

A couple of trivet Christmas gifts (still have one more on the saw) I cut this weekend. The owl was found in the Pattern Library, Superman and Wonderwoman patterns came from Google Images. 1x8 whiteboard from Lowes, used Pegas #3MG. I'll probably stain em a dark color (Minwax Provincial or Espresso, as I'm now out of Dark Walnut).4 points -

My sister asked for a sign for her granddaughter's butterfly garden. Well all the butterflies are gone and the flowers are returning to the ground but here's what she can put on her bedroom wall until the flowers start growing next year. This was more of a painting chore than expected but I think it came out OK.It still needs antenna's.3 points

My niece came for the weekend. Her older brother is in the hospital and it is pretty serious. Her parents needed some time at the hospital and she needed a break from everything. We cut and painted some of Steve Good's Halloween patterns. We also had some shop supervisors, the darker is Chase my niece's dog and the lighter is Samson my dog. The in progress pictures show my niece cutting, the unpainted pieces and one of our clamping process.3 points

I made one of these a few weeks ago for a co-worker. Another co-worker saw it and asked that I make one for his daughter who will be getting married soon. The security guard at my job also requested one to give to his wife of 43 years. He asked for a backer on it like the one I made a few weeks ago. The one above was requested without a backer. The customer gets what they want!3 points

I searched our forum for all the dust collectors designs that I could find. The Hegner desperately needs a working dust collector. The blower is effective in removing the dust from the cutting line, but the end result is dust in the air, which we don't need. The dust collector system I built, uses common Schedule 40 1-1/4" pipe from Lowes. I purchased a five foot section of pipe, three elbows, two couplers, one tee, two Bushings with 3/4" thread for connection to the loc-line and one "reducer bushing" for connection to the vacuum hose. The reducer for the hose connection came from Home Depot. I am not sure if Lowes had it or not. It was labeled as a 1-1/4" PVC reducer bushing. This one part, is one that you will have to fit to your vacuum hose. You might need a different part or fitting to fit the vacuum hose you have. The loc-line was purchased from Modularhose.com. It consisted of two 3/4" sample kits and one part #61501 which is two additional hose segments. I was able to snap everything together without any tools. I did buy 3/4" nuts that you see in the photo, but they are not necessary. I fitted everything together without glue and fastened the assembly to my saw. Once I was satisfied, with the fit (I did recut a few sections for better fits) I removed the assembly from my saw and glued it together with PVC glue. I put it back on my saw to recheck the fit, then removed it again to paint. The paint is Kubota Bright Orange II. I bought the paint from Amazon to paint the stand a while back. When we moved, the stand got scratched up, so I sanded it and repainted. I had to buy two cans, so I had enough to paint the PVC pipe for the dust collector. I will say this paint is a 95% match in color. It would not do, if we were matching paint on a car, but it is good enough for matching the Hegner paint. The most important thing, is that the dust collector works very well. I removed the blower as it is not necessary now. So far, I have not sucked up anything that I did not want. It has been a positive because it gets rid of many of the small cutouts that used to fall on the floor. I hope this will help someone else thinking of adding dust collection.2 points

For her deceased father....
MTCowpoke22 and one other reacted to Dad_Tech77 for a topic
I just found out that a young lady on my daughter's college team, lost her father suddenly from a massive heart attack at the young age of 54yo. I never met this girl nor her family but I felt the need to make her something as a father. This really hit me for some reason so I made her this sign. Her father was "the biggest Rolling Stones fan" so I added the RS logo with wings. I didn't want it to be the main focus of the sign but as a reminder that he will always be looking down on her and will always be proud. They were a very close family it just breaks my heart! I will be giving it to her and her mother very soon as a surprise Thank you Ed2 points -
Well, just so you "Thin blooded" people know. We don't typically get snow this early. But I grew up in NW Montana so it's not that big of an inconvenience except for the cleanup work. It was a really weird front that moved in that night. It only hit about 1/3 of the city. Other places woke up the next morning and hardly had even any rain at all and were wondering what all the fuss was about. I called a couple buddies, my cousin and the neighbor brought his big trailer and we got it all cleaned up on saturday in a couple hours. There are a few pieces I saved for a co-worker that does bowls. Other than that I wasn't too concerned. The larger pieces were too heavy to move around so we cut it all up.2 points

So what is it?
heppnerguy and one other reacted to Jronn65 for a topic
So, I found this book of patterns on the internet a few years ago, and this was one of that patterns. The wording was written a foreign language that I don’t recognize. That being said, I don’t know what this is supposed to be. The top comes off so you could put stuff in it, but it just seems this thing should have a purpose. Any ideas? Am I just putting to much thought into it?2 points -
I used the tubes for organization when I started, now I use the tubes for saw dust, one tube per species I leave the blades in the pack they come in, unwrapped and with the tiny wire off of them. The pack lays on the saw sub table I built2 points

Steve Good’s mini Nativity
heppnerguy and one other reacted to meflick for a topic
Nice work Dan. Like you, I much prefer hardwoods over Baltic Burch plywood. However. I thought I would cut some of these this afternoon and thought I would do them first in the BB plywood since I had some available that way if I messed them up, I wouldn’t mind as bad. I went with the middle size on 1/4” thick. I have glued the stable pieces together, but am thinking about how I want to finish out the overall pieces. I am thinking of staining the stable and the base darker and leaving the other pieces more natural. I am also thinking of trying one maybe with some colored stains on them or maybe doing some wood burning. Not sure yet, I am muddling it all over in my brain overnight at least. I did decide to turn the tree around because I thought it hides Mary’s face too much although yours does not appear to do so like mine did when I set it up together. Also, did you glue Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus to both the stable wall and the bottom ground or did you leave a little space between them and the stable wall? I had some 1/8” thick scrap of walnut that I had stacked up to cut 4 of the smallest ones like you have done but I have not cut them out yet. Pattern on and ready to go. Maybe tomorrow. I like how you turned them into ornaments. After cutting the 1/4” and seeing how small it was, I was hesitating about going smaller with these. May cut them and steal your idea and make them into ornaments as well. hopefully mine will look half as good as yours. Thanks for sharing.2 points -
The great thing is you're trying. Do not get discouraged. Perhaps start with pine which is a lot softer and easier to cut. Getting hooked is real easy and feel free to ask lots of questions. Lot's of people here happy to give you help.2 points

Marg. I listen to my wife when she tells me things. The problem I have is when she asks me to do a chores, she thinks I didn't hear her and asks me again and again. I guess she just does not listen to me as I reply each time she asks the same thing of me, that I heard her the first time. She doesn't seem to get it as she continues to ask me again every six months Dick heppnerguy2 points -

Happy wife, happy life. When I first started scrolling I tried to do some inlay work but never really got the hang of it. Now that I have a few more years on the saw under my belt, and a few pounds over it, I'm going to revisit the inlay process. The saws & blades have improved over the years which make for a better finished product. The boxes I've seen on this site have definitely motivated me. Over the years I've never really made anything with the intention of selling it. Things I've made were usually given away to family & friends or I made something because it posed a challenge. I've always had an interest in repurposing wood, maybe it comes from the treehouse days as a kid. I'll hang on to some wood finds until I find the idea that fits the wood. My wife does a few select shows each year and she convinced me to do one with her this pass July. With my list of things to make and how many to make of each one I realized early on that the idea of making a dozen of one item & then a dozen of another really didn't interest me. While at the July show my wife & I were invited to a handmade only show at a local museum in December. I wasn't much interested but she convinced me that this was the show she had wanted to get invited to. Again, happy wife, happy life. If we are invited to do this show again next year at least I'll have 12 months to make what I want to make and if it sells, fine, and if not at least I'll have my Christmas shopping done. Some of her wares. The mushroom houses have a plastic cup inside & the top hinges open. The bear & bunny and the unicorn on the table have articulating arms & legs. She has an army of Santa, snowmen & reindeer for the December show and several plastic tubs full of other items. Our granddaughter as a hat model.1 point

First, beautiful job on these. Thanks for sharing. Second, you noted you “watch” for the “ads for a 40% off coupon.” Not sure what “craft store” you were referring to, and which ones you might have in your area (or anyone else reading) but wanted to say in case you were unaware that almost all of the craft stores have weekly email coupons or coupons online on their websites for at least 40% off, often 50% and on occasion, more. Also, many of them will take their competitors coupons. You can usually sign up online or in store to get the emails but if you don’t want the daily emails some of them generate, you can usually logon to their website and locate that week’s coupon. In my area, we have Michaels, JoAnn’s, AC Moore and Hobby Lobby and they all have a weekly coupon and will take the other’s. Some will let you use one of theirs, and then some competitors in same transaction. (Not on same item, but different items. You just have to ask.) just wanted to let you guys know that if you were unaware. I know sometimes in my area, there are no printed coupons but I always get one by email almost weekly from all of them.1 point

Yeppers!!! "Quote" adds the person's post to yours, just so there's no mistaking what you're replying to. You can also go in and edit out what is "quoted" (I removed the photos from yours) to help focus on, for instance, one particular section/comment/thought in a long post. "Report" is to bring a post to the admin's attention, for instance if you think the post contains links to spam or virus-infected websites, or is completely off-topic or offensive or overly aggressive. If someone posts a bunch of nude photos with links to Russian porn sites while calling everyone on the board Nazi's, yeah, that should probably get reported. Don't worry about English...you be you! Yours isn't the worst I've seen on a forum (including some who are American citizens and grew up speaking the language). As someone once said, "English isn't really a language by itself...it's more of the illegitimate offspring of a drunken party between a dozen other languages, some of which may or may not be dead languages, and nobody's really sure if any of it was consentual."1 point -

Hi, I’m new at scroll saw. I bought the King scroll saw last weekend. I’m just learning , but I love this saw. Everyday after work I rush through dinner, toss the dishes in the dishwasher and head to my husbands workshop. I know I have a lot to learn. It was a little tricky changing the blade. My husband helped me and now I can do it. I’m excited for you. This was my first try.1 point -
What you say? Can't hear you.. Vacuum been running all day in the shop.. I don't seem to hear the sucking sound with the larger dust port that the Excalibur has.. or maybe my vac is just too loud and drowns the noise out..1 point

Another thought, for me it is not the vacuum noise I am worried about. I can not hear the vacuum because of the sucking air noise. So far I have not found a way to reduce that.1 point
