    32 Ford Coupe

No more cars for awhile and no more spirals either. Pattern from the library. Spiral blades and me fight rather then cut.

  3. I saw several candle holders that Steve Good put up, and thought I would start with this one. Got it cut from 1/4" BB ply and finish put on. When it's dry in the morning I'll glue it up. I got a bench drill press and a couple of Forstner bits so I'll do some tea light holders also.

    He was surprised....

This young man has been friends with my daughter's since they were 5yo. He is like a son to us and we are very proud. He didn't think I was going to make him a sign but have had it done for 2months now waiting for him to come home. I think he liked it

    Busy weekend.

A couple of trivet Christmas gifts (still have one more on the saw) I cut this weekend. The owl was found in the Pattern Library, Superman and Wonderwoman patterns came from Google Images. 1x8 whiteboard from Lowes, used Pegas #3MG. I'll probably stain em a dark color (Minwax Provincial or Espresso, as I'm now out of Dark Walnut).

  6. I just found out that a young lady on my daughter's college team, lost her father suddenly from a massive heart attack at the young age of 54yo. I never met this girl nor her family but I felt the need to make her something as a father. This really hit me for some reason so I made her this sign. Her father was "the biggest Rolling Stones fan" so I added the RS logo with wings. I didn't want it to be the main focus of the sign but as a reminder that he will always be looking down on her and will always be proud. They were a very close family it just breaks my heart! I will be giving it to her and her mother very soon as a surprise Thank you Ed

  7. I just finished this one for a customer.....the poplar shadowbox frame size is 10 x 10....so the piece is about 6 inches tall......it is cut from 1/2" baltic birch ply, sanded and painted.....the quilled paper strips are 1/4" wide which i roll and then shape.....and of course we added some Swarovski bling, to make the piece pop.....the background paper is a very fine glitter paper that i buy at michaels.....anyway, enjoy...... 8. These are a special request by a friend. The pattern is by Sheila Landry and purchased from her site. The wood is 1/2" Ash approximately 8" x 10" and backed with 1/8" Baltic Birch plywood stained with Samen Emerald. I used FD UR #1 and #3 blades cut on an EX 21. The finish is spray Lacquer Clear Semi Gloss. Comments welcome

    The Moon Fairy

I like to combine scrolling with quilling.....quilling is take paper strips, rolling them and then creating different shapes with them....i've created a series of 4 fairies...the moon fairy is #1.....the designs are my own creation....i used 1/2" baltic birch plywood for the frame, which is cut on my Excaliber EX 21....the frame is then painted and sanded.....the paper strips are 1/4" wide in a three color gradient.....the "veining" in the body of the fairy is something that i came up with...i use an FD Superior puzzle blade to cut the "veining" lines and then feed the 1/4" paper in.....the crystals are Swarovski and give a little "bling" to the fairy..... After i created the moon fairy and framed it, i felt it needed a little something on the frame to perk it up, so i designed the corner gussets.....they also include the "veining" of the wood and paper insert....i also build the poplar wood shadow box frames for the piece.....i hope you enjoy the piece....i had a blast designing and making it..... Butterfly Garden

My sister asked for a sign for her granddaughter's butterfly garden. Well all the butterflies are gone and the flowers are returning to the ground but here's what she can put on her bedroom wall until the flowers start growing next year. This was more of a painting chore than expected but I think it came out OK.It still needs antenna's.

    Card Holder

Made a card holder for my wife. I took the dragonfly holder and replaced it with my wife's logo. Stacked a piece of purpleheart onto an oak background and used the inlay technic to fit it in place. Thanks for looking.

If I want a straight line but wide I will cut using standard blades then use a spiral to make bigger. The spiral will follow the cut

  14. My niece came for the weekend. Her older brother is in the hospital and it is pretty serious. Her parents needed some time at the hospital and she needed a break from everything. We cut and painted some of Steve Good's Halloween patterns. We also had some shop supervisors, the darker is Chase my niece's dog and the lighter is Samson my dog. The in progress pictures show my niece cutting, the unpainted pieces and one of our clamping process.

    DC-3

Many years ago, my wife and I vacationed in New England and decided to take a flight from Hyannis to Nantucket. PBA Airlines used to fly DC-3's to the island. The flight was under an hour and we rented bikes. We pedaled down to the beach for a few hours and then came back to the town for lunch and then flew back that afternoon. It was kind of unusual to walk up hill to our seats but the sound of those old radial engines was great. I've had the DC-3 on my scroll saw bucket list for a long time. I found a nice picture and started gobbling pixels on Paint 3D. The picture is 15 x 9 on 1/8" BBPW with a 1/4" backer. Shellac/lacquer finish. Love those old planes! Some history on PBA Airlines. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Provincetown-Boston_Airlines

    TEXAS

Finished cutting TEXAS this evening. Dipped it in Watco Danish Oil and have it hanging to dry over night. It's. a Russ Wood Designs pattern. I got Texas and Nebraska from his states series. Thought I would try framing it. Didn't come out like I wanted...maybe if I cut one from 1/8" next time. Any ideas from the "framing masters" out there? I think glass would be better than the plexi. that came with it. There would not be any bow then.

  27. Let me start by apologizing for not introducing myself before. I believe that I have been a member of Scroll Saw Village for about 2 years now. I was born just outside of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Now reside in Southern Ontario, Canada not too far from Niagara Falls. My background is engineeering design, both mechanical and electrical. I also have an extensive background within the graphic arts fields. I am dating myself here. I started drawing professionally way back in 1972 within the Telecommunication fields. Space program, Satellites, etc. I was also designated graphic arts designer therefore was very involved with all company artwork and brochures. Let me not forget photography as I was also the company photographer as well. Moving on, the first computer for me was purchased by the company I worked for in 1984. Autocad was only becoming popular then and I was nominated as the pioneer within our company for this new style of engineering design. Before that, everything was drawn by hand, drafting board, etc.. I was actually using this program before General Motors and was asked by some of the engineering staff at GM to show them how this program worked. Over the years, the company purchased more programs for me. Coreldraw, Photoshop, Illustrator to name a few. In 2004, I was at a local Home Depot where there was this old guy (probably my current age) demonstrating a scroll saw. We talked for a little bit and I was hooked. I think it was only a day later that I went out to Sears and purchased my first scroll saw. Craftsman 16". soon after that, I purchased a Pro Craftsman 20". I ordered books, magazines you name it and anything to do with scroll saw. Within months, I was already cutting my first advanced portrait. Because of my extensive drawing background, I started to design my own patterns in 2005, but not using a computer. I drew them by hand from photos that I took. Sat for hours in our living room while watching TV and drawing at the same time. It was only in 2014 or 2015 that I was encouraged to introduce my designs to the public through some Facebook Scroll Saw groups that I belonged to. Then after doing so, I was found by Fox Chapel Publishing company where some of my work has been published. It is difficult to keep a life long journey within design world brief. Let me not forget that my mom enrolled me into art class at a local college when I was 12. I hated every moment of it as it was on a Saturday morning. All I wanted to do then was play outside with my friends. Never thinking that I would be still drawing today in 2019. So, professionally and hobby wise, i have been drawing and designing for over 47 years and still having a blast. For those who would like to see some of my scroll saw designs, you can find me at www.scrollsawart4u.weebly.com. I now own 3 scroll saws. 1998 30" Excalibur, 2009 21" Excalibur and finally a new King 30" Excelsior. I am also an avid cyclist. I have ridden my bicycle equivalent to 5 times the circumference of earth. I designed cycling jerseys for local racing clubs since 1998 and countless T-Shirt designs as well, but all for cycling. I was in a racing club for over 25 years. Too old for that now, but still enjoy cycling. I also love to play golf and long hikes with my wife. We both love the outdoors. She is a gardener and I am the artist who loves to make crazy things for our garden and house.

    Blade Storage Question

Because I used to do a lot of demos and teaching, I made a presentable blade holder rack. Made from Three layers of 1” Mahogany. I even decorated the back side. The tubes I get from Sloan’s Woodshop.

  45. That's a very nice set-up.. I gotta do this with my saws.. The Excalibur has a dust port.... but most do not like it because it sucks through the bottom of the table and the vac suck the board down too which makes it a little harder to move the board.. I actually like it ( as long as I keep my table waxed good I don't have much issues at all )
