  7. Have been re-sawing some western red cedar. I was given 1/2 doz 100mm x 100mm veranda posts. I like the smell, but but only in small doses. Had to evacuate the shed. Letting it settle before I run the boards through the thicknesser and sander. That stuff stinks.

    New Saw Stand

    I've just choked on my coffee, I'm so, so sorry but that sentence means something totally different over here. Never was I so pleased to look on the Internet for a 'translation' I thought you were being rather hard on yourself as I thought your bench looked fine Over here Crappy/Crappie means 'Totally Rubbish' My sincere apologies, from an old English Lady. Have a Great trip. xx

  13. If I tell you that my scroll saw was under 50 Eur everybody will laugh.But,you have to know that is not only about the tool,it is more about your skills with that tool.Of course I would like an Excalibur or a Hegner but... I work with this scroll saw from more than 10 years,I did cut metal,plexiglass,plywood,hard wood soft wood,vinyl disc ...my fingers I changed the clamps in the first days after I buy it,pin blade is not an option for me. A photo with a scroll saw like mine;

    That's the plan. That is one of the reasons I got the King 16" instead of a 21". It and the little benchtop drill press will ride in the front cargo hold. I normally carry a Barker 42gal. blue tote there, but we will be in full hookups the whole 4+ months so it won't be needed. I'll pack foot pedal, sanders, misc. tools and supplies in a tote or two that will ride in the main cargo hold. Also my stand breaks down to legs and a couple of braces to go in one of the cargo holds. I'll take some BB ply. and put in an order as soon as I get there, and pick up hardwood (or order) locally. I plan to do a lot of cutting and selling (hopefully) as we'll be in the Rio Grande Valley for almost 4 months. While it's cold and snowy I'll be sitting outside in the sun, in shorts and a T shirt, cutting patterns I'll take my laptop and files, but may look for a smaller printer to print and copy patterns. Yes folks...it's the Ozark Sawdust Road Show! Scroller on the road.....

    Western Red Cedar

    I too love the smell of cedar. Reminds me of Grandma's house. An old timer told me to ALWAYS use a dust mask when working with cedar. Since old timers never worried about stuff like that I figured I better heed his advice.

    Western Red Cedar

    OMG, Cedar smells sooooo good to me. I use it a lot. It can get a bit strong, but let me say that the bugs do NOT like cedar at all. I save my scraps and put them in my closets, drawers, and under some of the furniture just to keep the bugs out of the house. That is why people used to use cedar chests a lot too. But then I live in the west in cedar country.

  18. I like the smell. We have a fellow that brings in camphor to turn on the lathe and it makes the club shop smell like camphor. I think that smell is worse than red cedar. Take the suggestions and wear a mask and don't stay at it for long periods of time.

  21. You can take any intarsia pattern and cut out of a single piece of wood. Then you can shape and stain/paint the various pieces. It is called segmentation and pieces made this way can be a beautiful and rewarding as any intarsia. Though I would suggest poplar vs pine as poplar stains and paints better.

    DC-3

    Many years ago, my wife and I vacationed in New England and decided to take a flight from Hyannis to Nantucket. PBA Airlines used to fly DC-3's to the island. The flight was under an hour and we rented bikes. We pedaled down to the beach for a few hours and then came back to the town for lunch and then flew back that afternoon. It was kind of unusual to walk up hill to our seats but the sound of those old radial engines was great. I've had the DC-3 on my scroll saw bucket list for a long time. I found a nice picture and started gobbling pixels on Paint 3D. The picture is 15 x 9 on 1/8" BBPW with a 1/4" backer. Shellac/lacquer finish. Love those old planes! Some history on PBA Airlines. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Provincetown-Boston_Airlines

    We call them 'lures' over here, your 'bayou' looks absolutely beautiful, the alligator looks a little scary. Have a wonderful time while you are away. So glad you took my 'dilemma' in good part and were not offended by my comments.

  29. I like the Color. Nice and Bright. I have use this same set up but different routing. Works Real Well. I use a smaller Vac. Name Bad Ash Vac. Used mostly for a fireplace to remove ashes. It is not near as Noisy as even a small shop vac. Still somewhat loud, but bearable. NOTE.... I have had 2 times when I had to Loosen the joint to get a CLOG of Tiny cut outs. No I never did and will not Glue the joints together. My 13 Cents.... Love my Set Up....Hate Dust.... Danny :+}

    Brenda...I can almost see your face when reading that... Just to be clear...These are the Crappie Jigs I tie. This is a Crappie (very good eating). Here is one of the Louisiana Bayou, one of my favorite places to fish. And here is one of the thousands of alligator in the bayou...he also likes crappie! Now you're ready to come to the US and go fishing!

  31. Yeah the Delta is a decent saw.. and I see them all the time for $250-300.. Refurbished at $250 and many times brand new on sale at Home Depot or Amazon etc.. for 299.99 Not a bad price and their much like the DeWalt.. Quite a step up from anything else you're going to find in that price range for a new or newer saw... If you wait it out some though deals can be had on good used saws.. My first Hawk 220VS from Craigslist was a $100..I did put a lot of money into it.. but 95% of it was optional things like the adjustable air blower hose and extra blade holders etc etc..Only thing it "really" needed was the front tension cam as the one was worn out.. I upgraded so paid a little extra $50 for the new style one that's adjustable.. Too bad you're not close to Michigan.. I'd consider making a deal on that one..as I rarely use it since I got the other two bigger Hawks and the Excalibur https://www.ebay.com/p/2254908595?iid=303308009023 The Excalibur that is on Craigslist linked above is a pretty awesome deal too if you can come up with a few extra $$.. Heck he may even come down on price or do some trading..

  33. you make some very interesting and unusual pieces within your patterns. I would like to see you place some of your patterns here and see the reaction they receive here. if you find there are people cutting and posting your puzzles here, (they would be free here) then you might consider posting an etsy page. That is my take on this Dick heppnerguy
