  3. Nothing like seeing your first non family project get picked up. This was also my first time cutting out letters.I've been tinkering since Christmas on a harbor freight scroll saw. My wife seen this the other day and asked for one. Some how in the process she wound up selling it, so now I have to make her another one. I do the cutting and she does the painting.

    Gone Fishing

First project of this type for me. Pattern says "grampa2010" but I don't remember where I found it...lol. I think I'm becoming a pattern whore...I've got tons of patterns both saved and printed, some for now and some for more experienced days. Anyway...I did this on 1/8" BB ply with a light spray lacquer finish. I intend to mat and frame it.

    Loving my scroll saw

This is my second project. I have had a few failures, but I just dust off and get back to it.

  6. My niece came for the weekend. Her older brother is in the hospital and it is pretty serious. Her parents needed some time at the hospital and she needed a break from everything. We cut and painted some of Steve Good's Halloween patterns. We also had some shop supervisors, the darker is Chase my niece's dog and the lighter is Samson my dog. The in progress pictures show my niece cutting, the unpainted pieces and one of our clamping process.

  8. Cat Table Ornament Might like to make this for a cat lover. The pattern shows the cat's bottom a solid, but I cut it out for emphasis, but looking at it now, I think it would be better to leave it solid and cut in the leg lines about half way down.. Mine is cut from Padauk and mounted on a layered custom base of cherry and oak on the bottom. Free pattern on my Free Pattern Page: http://baggetta.com/pebooks/puzzle_patterns.htm

  10. Steve designed this rose pattern as a segmented plaque. I made it into a box. I used red oak, poplar, cedar and walnut.

  11. I use one of those boxes that have the little drawers that are meant to be used for nuts and bolts etc. I have each drawer labeled, starting on top - smallest to biggest. It sits on a shelf right beside my saw so there's no reaching to get a new blade. Works for me.

  13. Tammi, your cuts on the cat and mouse look perfect. I think your picture ideas should go well at a craft show too. Good work. I missed your introduction, so Welcome to The Village Family from Southern Arizona Dick heppnerguy

    Vacuum Noise Levels

The Fein Turbo II is $261.00 on Amazon. At 66 dB, it is the best solution for me right now. Checking camelcamelcamel, this is the best price in the last five years.

    Blade Storage Question

Because I used to do a lot of demos and teaching, I made a presentable blade holder rack. Made from Three layers of 1” Mahogany. I even decorated the back side. The tubes I get from Sloan’s Woodshop.

    Crown on Oak Board

I retired from sawing a few months ago. Always liked 1/4" oak. Saved a LOT of grief by only gluing together 1 1/2" wide pieces. Clamp as usual, but put wax paper & board(s) above & below and clamping the h____ out of them. Cure overnight and sand the glue off of both sides. Sure made life a lot easier. jerry

    Blade Storage Question

Nice display. I got rid of my blades that I will never use. Like you I had so many from trying to find that elusive goto blade.

  27. I have to agree, a really nifty idea. I wonder how big it is though, those hearts look pretty small to be writing on, though I see those folks managed. Seems like cutting a dado in the sides for the glass or plexiglass to sit in would work.

That will work on the cap letters and the small letters will glue OK. I appreciate all the responses to my question!

    Crown on Oak Board

You could tape a sheet of sandpaper to the board, then sand the back of the letters to the same radius as the crown. That will be a lot of work, but would get a tight joint. Tom

  34. I use a holder made from a Steve Good design. It works great for holding the tubes. I will never use all the different types of blades bought before knowing what works best.

    Crown on Oak Board

The crown is so slight. Lower case letters are ok, it is the caps that rock. I'll have to make a trip to ACE. It's only four blocks away.

  39. It ends up that the person selling the saw is a member of our club and he will bring it to our meeting Tuesday. I will probably buy it. I asked why he is selling it. He decided he wanted a 21" so he bought the Pegas 21inch. That is a great price with very low usage. I will just need a stand which is a non issue.

  47. I bought 2 packs of plastic tubes of 25 each. 49 are filled. When I started I was buying everything. I have 3 tube racks. Now I only use a small 10 tube rack with 2 empty holes. The other 8 are for my pegas blades. The rest are sitting back on a shelf. When I bought the second Hegner it came with a lot of blades in 2 storage boxes. The blades are huge. Had to be good for cutting fence posts.

    Vacuum Noise Levels

Something else to keep in mind is the micron of dust particles... I did a lot of homework last year but ran out of time before the end of the year for my tax deductions so I never bought one.. Anyway.. The Fein being much cheaper because it's not Hepa rated unless you spend another $100+ for the hepa filter.. Then you're comparable to the Festool which is... I don't know anything about the other Vacs you mentioned.. Nor the dust collector.. I do know "most" dust collectors with the bag only filter down to around 10 micron unless you "again" spend some more money for a higher end bag or the filter canisters.. I have the big dust collector from Harbor Freight and while it's great for getting the bigger chips from the planner it also will blow that fine dust right through the bag.. runs fairly quiet. Now the debate is.. How much filtration do we need? My noisy shop vac runs at 93 dB ( I have an app for sound level on my phone.. not sure how accurate it is but it works to measure sound levels between my machines..) and if you aim the exhaust through some light in the background you can see the fine dust blowing out the back.. Does it pick up the dust better than not using anything and sweeping the stuff up when done sawing... Yes... but there is fine dust everywhere in the shop after it settles the next morning.. So with all that said first consider how good a dust collection you're looking for too.. and these do not clean up the air so you can do without a dust mask.. I'm not saying that the regular old shop vac doesn't work.. or help.. as I'm using mine until I can get the Festool that I want.. My decision on a Festool over the Fein isn't anything to do with the Hepa filter or the quality of the machines etc.. it's because I have a local dealer and service center.. should I need that.. So yes most all the vacs are probably better than nothing.. and most any are probably perfect for the hobbyist.. I'm just looking for more filtration and quiet at the same time and as business grows, tools fail etc.. I'm replacing lower end tools to higher end stuff.. Thanks for the suggestions of other vacs and the noise levels.. I'm sure that'll sure help out in someone looking for a quieter vac
