  1. The only Halloween project I cut this year was the Steve Good spider and I already posted that a couple of weeks ago so I decided to show a couple I did last year. The first one is the skeleton on the motorcycle and of course the last one is a self portrait. Dick heppnerguy

First project of this type for me. Pattern says "grampa2010" but I don't remember where I found it...lol. I think I'm becoming a pattern whore...I've got tons of patterns both saved and printed, some for now and some for more experienced days. Anyway...I did this on 1/8" BB ply with a light spray lacquer finish. I intend to mat and frame it.

  4. Steve designed this rose pattern as a segmented plaque. I made it into a box. I used red oak, poplar, cedar and walnut.

  5. Cat Table Ornament Might like to make this for a cat lover. The pattern shows the cat's bottom a solid, but I cut it out for emphasis, but looking at it now, I think it would be better to leave it solid and cut in the leg lines about half way down.. Mine is cut from Padauk and mounted on a layered custom base of cherry and oak on the bottom. Free pattern on my Free Pattern Page: http://baggetta.com/pebooks/puzzle_patterns.htm

Thank you @Kenny Hopkins for the link to your patterns. I've taken a few to cut. In the meantime I did this one.. I think he's totally adorable.

  7. First let me apologize for the poor pics, I will administer 30 lashes with a wet noodle later. I'm close to needing to order, my goto blade is the Pegas Modified Geometry #3 (PMG #3), in another thread some time ago someone mentioned the blades that Judy Gale Roberts (of intarsia fame) sells. And sells much cheaper than the PMG variety. So I ordered a dozen of the Gold. She does sell Platinum too, higher price naturally. not that it matters much to most of you, but the plastic zip lock package is thinner, not as sturdy IMO, as the package the PMG and FD blades come in. Initially I thought I received a manufactures defect, it looked like there were no teeth! But sure enough, sliding my thumb up and down found them. I was surprised since with readers I have no problem seeing the teeth on a PMG blade, (oer the FDUR either). see the pic So I got some scrap pieces and went to freehanding some cuts. Basswood because it is notorious for the fuzzies, and a scrap of walnut. I'll be staying with the PMG #3, but as they say, YMMV The JGR blades do cut straight just like the PMG blades do food for thought anyway

    Nebraska

I changed it up a bit with this state. Texas was done with 1/4" BB plywood. For Nebraska I used 1/2" Oak and clear lacquer finish. I like the hardwood version better. May have to do another Texas in Oak this time. NE is also a Russ Wood Designs pattern.

  11. Thanks to all of you for the kind comments. I posted it on my FB page last night and was overwhelmed with the amount of attention it drew which made me feel good. One lady asked what i would take for it. I sent her a private message and told her $125. Of coarse I never heard back from her. I think I have about 10 hours in making it. I decided if I can't make a little bit on it for my time I will give it to someone I care about.

  13. you have a sharp eye and obviously saw the resemblances. I have to confess, both of them are me, but the bottom one was before I dieted and lost most of my excess weight. Do you think I look better now that I am no longer so fat? Dick heppnerguy

  14. Nothing like seeing your first non family project get picked up. This was also my first time cutting out letters.I've been tinkering since Christmas on a harbor freight scroll saw. My wife seen this the other day and asked for one. Some how in the process she wound up selling it, so now I have to make her another one. I do the cutting and she does the painting.

  18. I've been trying to save my patterns after I pull them off of the wood that I am cutting. I started painting them on the inside of my shop door. Be interesting to see once it gets full! Btw, that sandpaper cutter is one the best things I have ever bought.

Reminds me of Winnie the Pooh bear. Great job. I always had a soft spot for Winnie the Pooh. When I was in second or third grade, my teacher read Winnie the Pooh stories to us. A lot! Don't think he taught us much,,,, but I bet every on in the class remembers Winnie the Pooh. Nice scrolling...

  23. Greetings - I am a recent retiree - been scrolling off (mostly) and on for about 4 years...started out with a couple of Craftsman saws, got tired of them rapidly. Started watching Craigs list, and spotted 3 Hawks one week. Checked them out, ended up bringing home a "tweener" VS 220, serial number 2600x. I say "tweener", as the saw (by the serial number) is "in between" models, as it doesn't exactly match my owners manual and has a upper arm from the Ultra model, but not the lower arm. Regardless of the model, it is a great step up, and I just need to spend some time using the machine. I've been reading posts in the various topics, and have found lots of good information. Jim

Nicely done. I did the same pattern last year and just sold it yesterday at a craft fair. Father bought it for his son, now a Marine. I especially love patterns that tell a story, and this pattern by "grampa" certainly accomplishes that. Kudos. Vin

Extremely well done,. I still have some of the patterns that came with the first scrollsaw I ever bought; that was in 1953! I have boxes of patterns, from a multitude of different places and many that I made or heavily modified too. I now make templates of a lighter material from things I intend to make more than one of.

  47. Welcome. I have been scrolling for close to 20 years and use Baltic birch for most projects. With sanding and some imagination with staining some great results can be achieved. From small to large projects. As shown here I find it becomes a Zen thing you, the saw and the wood i

  48. Thank you all for the valuable information. And yes i will try to post all my questions in the right section... i got a little excited lol. Just got done doing an other steve good design on 3/4 pine. i have an abundance of that laying around in my garage. I just didnt think it was gonna be any good for scrolling. It came out ok. I broke the "H" while sanding it though. Good practice though.
